I had that Bucky O'hare pirate cartridge. Can beat each level individual but can't never beat them all in one go. Sad noise for all south east asia kids, pirate cartridge and bootleg NES were all the market offered. And pirate cartridges are still fairly expensive too, not like we have the concept of pirate games exits either. Smh that was a serious dick move Konami

i do agree on most of these games except for bucky o hare.. that game you can easily beat within 20-30 minutes if you are good at it !

Two recent ones in a new genre I call "NES+". Recent 8-bit retro games with graphics better than what was on the NES, but still "feel" and generally look like a game on it. Beyond Shadowgate is an official sequel just released by the original developers. Abaddon: Princess of the Decay is an obvious Sweet Home homage...that inexplicably includes hentai scenes? I think they're optional and skippable though, but the game has amazing creepy NES style sound design.

I would say deadly towers is way worse than dragons lair.. Not that dragons lair wasn't hard but it was more of a memorization game and not particularly long if you know what you are doing right?

Most NES games were brutally hard. Do a video over all of them.

Amagon was a bit difficult. Beatable, but sometimes frustrating. Double Dragon 3.....brutal. I remember not getting very far in Trojan too.

Sword of Vermilion was an RPG, but the demonic bosses were horrific and grotesque for the era.

I actually like alf on master system and made it all the way to the end on my first try in just about one hour.

There is some sweet body horror elements in Kabuki fighter and the world feels very dark and alien.

I'm not sure if P.O.W. gets mentioned enough as for its difficulty! I had a back-and forth contest with another serious gamer at the time, and neither of us got very far in my opinion!!

Great retrospective here! My family's first PC came with a slew of games and the original DOS version of Willow was one of them. It was one of the few games with interesting graphics and "fairly" easy to understand gameplay. Spent many, many an hour trying to get through that ice maze.
