I'm really enjoying this series, I've been checking them out here and there for a couple months but now I'm practically watching every one of them I find. 😄👍
"The ghost will turn you into a butterfly if you stare at it for too long, especially during a full moon" seems like an EXTREMELY specific set of rules for a vengeful spirit to adopt.
Yeeeessssss!!! Absolutely love your uploads. You have such a great flow to your reviews and the little puns and quips are brilliant. Wish you all the success you deserve.
24:32 - that thing had me afraid to turn corners or fall asleep for a WEEK - and it still gives me the heebie jeebies to this day! The silence as it stomps toward you, the camera tilting back as if the thing is engulfing your smaller body, maybe even breaking your back... BRRR! Great compilation, so many awesome memories revisited! :D
I've been really enjoying checking out your vids one by one, Burst! Very high-quality production and some I haven't ever heard of until you showed them. Great stuff, man!
37:21 _'...And, of course, I must make a bit of a stretch outside of pure horror'_ *Proceeds to discuss **_Ecco the Dolphin,_** the SINGLE MOST HORRIFYING VIDEO GAME EVER MADE*
Absolutely fascinated by Mansion of Hidden Souls, I had no idea anything that strange and atmospheric was made for the sega CD. Clearly I need to do a deeper dive into the sega CD/32X library. You always manage to introduce me to at least one title that I'd never heard of in these videos and I really can't thank you enough.
Mansion of Hidden Souls is ok and you could do much worse. It's actually the only video game that I've ever sat down and played with my mother who was deciding where to go and what actions to take.
Just wanted to add some extra love for Snatcher. I was inspired to finally play it by a Basement Brothers episode on the OG PC-88 version (which I also highly recommend watching along with pretty much all of their vids). Uniquely, I played this on my Switch as a test of running homebrew via Retroarch. Other than maybe a couple spots where it wanted an obtuse/very specific sequence of interacting with a scene it still holds up really well. An excellent use of a weekend's free time.
It's always such a shame to me how much unfulfilled potential the Sega CD and 32X had. I'm glad they've gotten a reexamination in recent years. I used to hold them in such low regard that I turned down a Sega CDX in 2010 for $10 (ouch), but videos like this really help to change that perception. Lots of great stuff out there.
When I was a kid we had this VHS tape that was some sort of add for these light gun VHS based games and there was one that looked really cool as a young kid. This was back in 1990-91, the game was like in a haunted house or mine. It was like you were riding in the cart of a haunted house ride or something and you had a light gun to shoot the ghosts and whatever. Don't think I'll ever remember the name of it, pretty sure there were one or two other games advertised aswell but I was most interested in the "ghost zapper one" as I used to call it. 😄👍 Edit: Just to be clear these games were all live action stuff like Night Trap and the like but in the form of a type of on rail zapper.
I'm not into these point&click or adventure games myself, specifically Snatcher and Rise of the Dragon, but these two got me interested into them that I want to try it. The same with the TurboGrafx CD, I've looked at "Beyond Shadowgate" and it looks interesting enough for me to try it. Good stuff, surprised the Sega CD may have had some nice horror hits. By the way, do you have a "Nintendo 64 Horror Games" planned by chance? I bet you will include Resident Evil and Conker in it, the one in Conker was a big pleasant (and scary) surprise!
My friend wanted Ecco the Dolphin for his birthday, we could't find it. So my mom and I got him Mansion of Hidden souls, we were pretty creeped out but enjoyed it. I have some nostalgia for that one as well.
I've actually played most of the games on this list! I was a big fan of the Sega CD as a teen and just wanted it to be great, so I rented pretty much every game that came out for it hoping for classics. And there were a few! Of this list, I love Snatcher - I wish I bought it but I finished it as a rental - Rise of the Dragon is fantastic, though I've only played it on PC, Dracula Unleashed was a lot of fun. Finding out that it was by ICOM makes sense, their horror stuff was always interesting and well written. Of course I played plenty of the terrible FMV games like Night Trap, Corpse Killer, etc. I rented Mansion of Hidden Souls but just didn't "get" it though it was impressive for the time for almost full screen FMV stuff.
Sega Control Attack Team. What an unfortunate name. Howard Lincoln is still around, wonder if he knew of the Night Trap remaster and what he'd comment about it finally being on a Nintendo system. The one thing I always thought was both hilarious and really freaking weird is the frequency of games featuring characters directly angrily insulting the player.
I had Sewer Shark. I wasn't good with it. Rise of the Dragon was interesting, I also used to have it. 32X Doom was my first experience with Doom. Became a fan ever since. I still have the SCD port of MK. It was a decent port, all things considered. To bad that the background music was in the wrong stages.
Sewer Shark is a fun on-rails shooter with some of the cheesiest cutscenes you're ever likely to see, but they made one very brutal mistake with the gameplay; shooting your gun should not drain energy. In most on-rails shooters, you WANT to be firing at all times, especially in a game like this, where it takes a few seconds between firing and hitting, and you only have that amount of time to hit a target. But because firing drains your energy, holding the fire button down will kill you. The resulting game loop requires you to either memorize a pattern that isn't always consistent, or have the reflexes of a sharpshooter to register enough hits to avoid getting fired. I've been playing Sewer Shark since the early 90's, and I've seen past Dogmeat level once; 9 out of 10 times, I'll get fired by Stenchler or I'll run out of power.
Always got excited looking at Blackthorne cover art and then disappointed once putting on the game it contained. Not sure what I was hoping for each time but it wasn't that. It would've been neat to get like a Contra meets Castlevania type of game out of Blackthorne, maybe mix in a little Golden Axe. 😄👍
3:54 Tame by any standard, it's the Full House of horror heh. While I think the rating system should have come a lot sooner those senate meetings bitd were a farce, I just imagine them watching a F13th or Elm Street movie and getting a heart attack lol.
First of all, I want to pre-empt my slight critique by saying I love your videos! I'm very very strict and particular in what YT channels I like. Your editing (audio and video), pacing, voiceover and presentation are all on point. The only critique is... stop relying on the word "janky" so much. XD And also stop using "unique" wrong. "a bit/very/somewhat/incredibly unique" doesn't make sense. It's like being "a bit pregnant". But yes you aren't the only one to trip up on these and I'm aware that in a channel as good as yours that this is a nitpick. Keep up the good work!
Another great spooky showcase! Thanks Burst Error. One of these days I'll learn japanese and come back here with my disappointment after finishing those untranslated JRPGs. Christmas Special when? (by Christmas, but what year)

Came to the channel and video due to suggestion. I was not disappointed I’ve spent a good part of my morning watching your videos.
Thanks! welcome :)
Thank you for these spreads of lesser known games!
Snatcher is a stone-cold classic, and it's a must play. It also has the best soundtrack of any game I've ever played.
I could watch your stuff for hours on end 😎
thanks so much for the tip! glad you enjoy :D

Sick video dude!
Excellent, thank you for including the forgotten 32X. Great video.
Schlock and horror go together, and Sega CD and schlock as well, so it's magic when all three come together.
Absolutely fascinated by Mansion of Hidden Souls, I had no idea anything that strange and atmospheric was made for the sega CD. Clearly I need to do a deeper dive into the sega CD/32X library.

Primal Rage was actually by Atari Games. They were later purchased by Midway's parent company in 1996, a couple of years after the game came out.
RIP Dana Plato 😥
Night Trap will always be a cult classic.
HOLY SHIT I've prayed for this day
I love bug blasters, glad you covered it
Burst Error is it!

For a second I thought that was Tom Paris in sewer shark.
Tommy Talarico on Terminator? His mother is very proud.

Yeahhhhhh!!! Big fan of these 💀
Sega CD and 32x is a huge blind spot for me. Settling in with this one tonight 😎

N64 is in the works, yes! :)
I'm considering making that old man death rattle at 28:40 my ringtone.
My buddy and I thought Dracula was so tough as kids, still do!

I actually played Mickey mania. I'm surprised there's a game on this list that i played.
11:28 The zombies sound like honking seals
"Rip the balls off the SEGA man" still one of the funniest jokes on the Late Show in Australia when they did a feature on Night Trap.
Did not know another world had a sequel, always presume it's flashback
when i got my Sega cd model 2 for Christmas it came with sewer shark.

haha yeah, it definitely punishes you for having fun and firing off lasers the whole time
Thanks, had to do it on desktop instead... google suck.
thanks so much for the support! :D
