Well, even if I loved the movie as a kid and still like it a lot, it is also pretty obvious that Lucas took great inspiration in Tolkien and even recycled his own Star Wars archetypes. Willow is both Frodo and Luke. Madmartigan is Han Solo. General Kael is Darth Vader. Bavmorda is Palpatine. Fin Raziel is Obi-Wan Kenobi. etc. And the overall story is pretty predictable and not very original. It's great when you're a kid and don't know a lot of similar stories yet, especially in the fantasy genre, but I guess it's pretty understandable that more experienced audiences would find the movie unoriginal.
‘Cold, labyrinthine colon’ is a brand new word cluster, never uttered before, so congratulations on that. Awesome video, Willow was such an oversized influence on my childhood. I would have been obsessed if I knew that arcade game existed back then
everything's already been done and said. don't be so arrogant to think that nobody has said cold labyrinthine colon. have fun youtubing and posting comments on youtube videos, horrorkid.
I love Willow!!! The critics were wrong (as is often the case lol). It's an epic memorable film especially compared to the junk coming out today, but I won't go all into that... anyway thanks for this awesome video!!!
I remember renting Willow for the NES. I was so fascinated by the title sequence I made my own for a game I was programming at the time. A cycling color palette to look like lava... so cool.
Fun fact; there was a deleted scene from the movie where Willow has an encounter with a fish creature. That's where the rafting level in the arcade game comes from.
Love Willow so much. Being based in Europe the NES was nonexistent, and I never saw that arcade game or DOS game anywhere, so watching you on stream was pretty much my first exposure to them. F them crabs!
I played Willow in the arcade, it had that rich stereo sound and used the CP System board. It was a fun run and gunner/platformer. The graphics for the time were gorgeous.
That one "run through the woods" mini-game in the first version was a bit too similar to Bill and Ted's Excellent Video Game Adventure for my tastes, anyone else? Great work on this, Burst.. I've GOT to play the arcade game sometime.. it looks amazing. Thanks for mentioning that NES soundtrack too. It really is a game you can replay every few years to get wrapped up in that cozy nostalgia blanket.
I never made it passed the cart level in The willow arcade game back in the day, but it always took the 1st few coins from me if it was not in use when i arrived at the arcade.
I've loved the arcade and NES games since they were released and greatly appreciated their different approaches. You should review the Willow TTRPG next! (I'm mostly kidding)
Willow is a great movie. I have only played Willow on NES. It was a decent action-rpg. Although it's strange to see Willow with a Sword and Shield instead of a magic staff. That should be for Madmartigan.
The NES game was great, and the only reason I played it as a kid was because Capcom did it, I used to stay away from any movie based game because it usually sucked. I was very happy that Friday night when I got home from Blockbuster video and it turned out a great game.
I have an Eborsisk on my cabinet. So yes Willow is my second favorite 80s fantasy movie, after Time Bandits. Willow and Time Bandits should have had a crossover movie or game.
Am I first? No. Have I played any Willow game? I have not. Have I seen the movie? No again. Will I? Yes, probably. Did I "wake up, babe, Burst Error just uploaded" for this video? I did.
Highly recommend watching the movie. Important amalgamation of conan like dark fantasy, tolkien esque hugh grouded fantasy, and the adventure pacing of the contemporary lucas films story telling.
I always thought the NES and arcade versions were pretty solid. A nice surprise from the standard movies to games translation. Never knew about the PC versions tho. 😬
Mandela effect at play here, but I remember a slightly different Willow arcade game. I remember taking over the game after an old kid lost to the Eborsisk dragon and I continued at the beginning of the game, and when I got to the first boss it was the Eborsisk... sorta, like, it had the two heads and was smaller but it clearly was just the first boss. I think the game loaded the asset for the dragon in the continue screens or something. ... .... then again, I remember lots of wrong things from old old old arcade games.
Beat the nes one finally(couldnt finish as a kid) and the arcade game about a year ago, never knew it had a dos game. Love Willow the movie... did not watch the disney+ abomination that was so bad they removed it from disney+ so no one can even see it which is amazing because even the worst slop 1 star movies you can usually stream.
The movie was one of my favorites. When I finally decided to get Disney + the show had just been removed so I also didn't see it. The show did get 84% on Rotten Tomatoes and was among the top 10% in popularity during Q1 2023 before its removal so I'm not sure where you heard it was so bad.
@@TheItalianTrash Willow is one of my childhood favorites as well, some real classics back in the day. Lol Rotten Tomatoes that is a corrupt org, the show checked the correct boxes is all it takes sometimes. Not to get political, so I will leave it at that. Look at the actual real people reviews not the paid shills as well as online. It was so bad they didn't even want to waste the bandwith or space or whatever it is to keep it online to watch, that should tell you something. How often does that happen on an IP that they exclusively own and can only be viewed on the same exclusive service? I would say beloved IP to(well to me it was). I would have probably, maybe, eventually watched an ep. or 2 to try and get some member berries out of it.
@@jayhouston7054 I never blindly follow either critics or the audience's review scores, but I usually agree with them when a movie gets terrible ratings. Both the critics and the audience gave it good reviews. I'm also aware that the Willow series has a lesbian couple and a transgender female which I don't mind since I'm neither politically correct nor their anti-woke counterparts which I find both want to go out of their way to find something to complain about. As long the political correctness isn't excessively overt where every Nelwyn is a bisexual transgender female rocking a beard who identifies as a Daikini. I loved the movie because of the lore and the world along with the various characters ranging from the Brownies to General Kael who did have the coolest helmet ever. I do understand that the show cost quite a bit to make for each episode with a huge cast and Disney didn't want to pay any royalties to keep the show running on Disney Plus. I'll just have to get a bootleg blu-ray to watch it.

I swear the recent TV show was just a generic fantasy script they shoved Willow into. I stopped watching after 2 episodes because it felt like a High-school drama with High-school level acting.
Willow remains perhaps the most underrated fantasy adventure film to date. Never understood why it failed with credits and the box the box office.

the willow tv series was how the movie should've been, y'all.
The Willow games are some of my favorite games, I love coming back to them every once in a while and playing again. So Well done.
Really fun and interesting video about some niche games based on a fairly well known 1980s fantasy movie. Great job, man! Thank you so much!
I remember renting Willow for the NES. I was so fascinated by the title sequence I made my own for a game I was programming at the time. A cycling color palette to look like lava... so cool.
They did my man Warwick dirty on the NES cover
an elf drew the coverart. their hatred of dwarves is legendary.

@BurstError It does appear in the comic adaptation of the film along with a scene involving an ice wall.

I was just thinking about what a good job Capcom did with the NES game. Thanks for reminding me I need to give it another playthrough 👍🏻
😂 “Cold Labyrinthine colon” great video burst!
