    I currently own a 1990 Jeep YJ islander edition and the best thing I ever did to the straight 6 was install a howell fuel injection system eliminated all that smog crap and made it legal for California. Best deal ever just hand tools were needed. Took me about 2 hours to install the whole closed loop fuel system

    Thank you. I've been trying to find out how to do this. A few years ago, I saw a UA-cam video of a guy that built a homemade welding block that would also rev up the motor as you start to weld.

  • @ronnierowe6764
    @ronnierowe6764 19 днів тому

    For DC welding, it's best to use electrode negative. Meaning the "ground" clamp woud actually go to the alternator and the stinger (rod holder) would go to your hood pin. It will help the rod burn smoothly and will prevent those balls forming close to the weld. But this was an amazing project and thanks for taking the time to share it with us.

    Would it be possible to remove a transmission, replace it with a very powerful generator capable of stalling the motor at any moment regulated by an inverter which supplies power directly to a pair of drive motors which only turn off as soon as there is low acceleration demand at highway speeds, at which a high gear is engaged? The torque of first gear would be available at all speeds but with the added bonus of avoiding fhe low efficiency of electric drive at highway speeds. What would be even cooler is a kit that is able to fit the same generator or something close to it, if it could ever fit, where the fly wheel goes(yeah not likely but worth a mention), which is able to take place of downshifts at highway speeds, which would provide the afore mentioned torque of first gear at highway speeds. These two ideas are about the equivalent of batteryless hybrid drive trains, which are probably capable of being provided in the form of a kit. Perhaps this idea has no relevance as there very well may be something along the same lines as an e-cvt that is adapted to function without a battery, as would provide for mechanical drive, electric drive, and a mix of both at any applicable moment, instead of what i have proposed before this particular statement. Whatever works best, i would love to see the closest thing we can get to making an e-cvt designed to function without batteries in order to supplement the efficiency and power of cars that do not have them. What do you think?

      @@sweeneyoffroad That's understandable. I don't know much about those engines so I thought maybe there was something specific about your choice. I'm sure it has more power than the 2.5 or 4.0 though haha. Thanks a lot for the response, I'll have to look into that, it looks clean

    • @sweeneyoffroad

      @@diktat6558 The LS platform is definitely the most swapped engine in the US. It’s super reliable and has good power in stock form. They’re everywhere also. I get about 500 hp in this one vs about 180 in my old 4.0. All that said, I absolutely love the 4.0. It might still be my favorite engine.

    Just discovered your channel and subscribed! I recently purchased my first wrangler (1990 YJ) and it isn't perfect, but I have been working on it and now have the 258ci (4.2L) running great! Previous owners had done some nice updates but didn't set things up properly. They had installed a Weber 32/36, an HEI distributor and a new radiator. It ran really rough, but I have been fixing several vacuum leaks, got the carb adjusted properly and set the timing that was way off. Runs great now and so much fun to drive! Thanks for starting the database/google doc. I saved it and look forward to seeing that info grow. I need some retractable seat belts for mine and noticed in one of your other videos you had good luck using Ranger floor buckles so I may have a look at the shoulder/lap belt from a ranger and see if that will work for me. Thanks for putting some of this info together and sharing it. If I find something I think others would like to know about, I'll be sure to share it with you and others here.

    • @sweeneyoffroad
      @sweeneyoffroad Місяць тому

      Absolutely! Please do let me know how the how the Ranger belts work for you. Sounds like a cool project. Something so satisfying about getting a carburetor running right. I know a lot of YJ folks really like the motorcraft 2150 carb if you find yourself getting frustrated with the Weber. Welcome to the channel!

    I need 72V to charge some batteries, can i just use a solar mppt charger rted at 100A , and put the output from the mppt charger to the field winding, to keep the voltage at 72v, or do i need a higher dc voltage for the field? i think i need between 45 and 60V ac for the mppt charger, would this also work?

    I have a 1995 rio grande. I added a turbo, shackle reversal, and 2.5 inch lift with new springs bushings etc. Put on a new bestop top and I also sourced a reman ax5 for it. When the weather clears up the steering is getting overhauled with all moog parts. Also just installed a 12k lb winch and tube rear bumper.
