Hi, I'm Alex and and I'm an Adventure Bike Noobie- there, I said it! This is my spin on ADV bike vlogging as a non expert and I hope you enjoy my journey.
As time goes on, I'd like to pull in some of my other experience as an expedition and pre hospital care doctor and how we can learn some skills for any bike trip. I've managed medical emergencies in remote locations all over the world and have taught expedition courses in polar, jungle, mountain, desert and maritime environments.

KOVE 450 Rally first look- is this the unicorn light weight ADV bike?
I only went and bought a KOVE 450 Rally! Having had the KTM 890 AR for three years, I decided to have a change and try something smaller and lighter, but still capable of some longer journeys. Here are my first impressions, observations and thoughts.
10 points for spotting the squirrel falling out of a tree!!
Points of clarity for the film- I bought the bike, exhaust and screen from John Stone at Motorrad Konnection UK, not Konrad Motokonnection as I say in the film. Other parts and advice have come from James Brown at Kove UK. Both have delivered the most amazing support and customer service which is so refreshing.

2023 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S five day review- is this the bike of your dreams?
Переглядів 27 тис.Рік тому
The 2023 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S is marketed as a true trans continental weapon, there to transcend countries and make our journey global. Add on the KTM Ready to Race ethos and that's a potentially potent mix. What's it like in real life and is it truly a new bike, or just a few minor changes but a new year?

@advnoobie6061 tried some new Mitas tyres on the 890 Adventure R. I've loved the Continental TKC 80s but fancied a change and Mitas have a great rep. Let's go more knobbly than the TKC and see how they perform. This is real world normal person riding. How did they perform and are they worth keeping? Once again a massive thanks for the great service at JD Racing www.johndeaconracing.co.uk/ for a...

All good. Thanks for watching and ride safe.
if you could have only one bike what would you chose among the 890 ADV R, the 1290 ADV R and the Africa Twin?
Wow. That’s a tough one. Personally I’m not as keen on the AT but it’s still a really fun bike, reliable, well know and big global manufacturer. I bloody love the 1290AR and it makes me smile everytime I ride it though it can be a bit intimidating off road at my level. The 890 was also superb fun, but if it was just one bike, I’d go heart over head and have the 1290 SAR.
Thanks, your comment and video are very insightful for me
Great to see you back!! Lighter is def better when it comes to offroad - 890 as much as I love them is always going to be a big ask in technical stuff unless you're the size of Tarres or the have the skills of Birchy. I've ridden the pro version up at Sweetlamb and will hopefully be buying one this year (2025) for a desert rally later in the year. The Guys up at sweet lamb now have a couple and do one to one training - can certainly recommend them for improving skills and helping with your road book journey as they also do RB nav training too. What's the rack on the back BTW?
That’s great and sounds like you have some fun planned.
Whats the MPG and tank range?
About 2 gallons/ 100 miles at the moment. 30L capacity.
Sold my 790 and replaced it with a 701 for the same weight reasons Lighter is certainly better.
How does the Kove 450 Rally ( Standard ) compare to a KTM 690 Enduro R / Husky 701? On paper still seems like a heavy bike. Is ther anyway to not use all 8 gallon gas tank by closing off rear fuel tank? Are the gas tanks clear enough to see the fuel level? Thanks for video. Look forward to more Kove reviews, real life service, etc.
The fuel tanks all lead into the front left tank- back goes to front right goes to front left. You can get a valve to close off the rear tank. I can’t really compare it with the two bikes you mention as I’ve not ridden them. Thanks for watching.
12T off 51T or 52T on the rear, you said fitting the 12T lowers the gearing more than going larger on the rear, gearing is gearing it’s just maths and as already said your chain will love you longer. Oh, and get some training. Finally, take off the bash plate and clean the oil cooler gently.
oh yeah, sick stickers and a wicked bike
you are on the right path , singles ftw🙂 a 12 tooth though? oooft that chain is gonna hate you and quick fast
Yep- going to change it back to standard and see how it is.
13T ordered! Not a fan of the 12T to be honest.
Decals look great...👍
Thank you. They were pretty stressful to put on but well worth it. Thanks for watching.
Nice looking Bike didn't take long to pick it up 😉
It’s super light. And that makes a difference. Thanks for watching.
No water on air filter 😮
No - a couple of mud splashes.
Speech only from left channel, annoying. 😵
I know and I hate that but only the last bit I think. Apologies for that. Need to shake down the gear again. Thanks for watching.
@@advnoobie6061 like button pushed :)
Haha. Too right. I don’t like tech errors!!
good honest viewpoints thank you as a short ass 57 year old shopping for some new metal interesting points, I have short legs less than 29"" and a wonky ankle courtesy of a 450exc how does the seat height compare to the 890 (r) I presume which I have written off as too tall for myself?
I have a 29 leg and completely knackered ankle judging by the MRI a couple of weeks ago! It’s the low version with the rally seat and it’s still a bit tip toes to be honest. I lowered the 890 and had a low seat as well- could get my fore foot on the ground with that.
You appear to want to improve your riding by buying a better bike instead of improving your skills. It never works out well, you spend a lot of money, get frustrated and then give up on riding. Get your skills sorted first and then video the progress your making, would be far more interesting than the bike you are riding.
Did you find the USA ECU better than the Cuber version
Just a tad mean that really.
@@jonay9221 I’d rather not see a fellow rider giving up and/or getting hurt. He already admitted he was a novice despite 3 years of riding. I found out the hard way I needed training, better not to make that mistake.
Thanks for the open and honest feedback. The Kove is not necessarily a better bike than the 890, just a lot lighter but still capable of doing a bit of distance. I ride a lot on my own and am getting older, so sold the 890 and bought the Kove instead. Fits much better alongside the 1290 SAR. I’ve been riding road bikes for many years but wanted to learn off road three years ago. I love it, very little puts me off, I keep within my limits and have enjoyed quite a lot of training since starting. We all have good days and bad days with varying confidence and I’m having more low confidence days currently as I’ve not ridden as much this year. That’s going to change in 2025. Thanks for watching and have a great 2025.
I need to try the Coober with the decat exhaust. So many combinations- the USA decat is very rich low down and I suspect it’s chucking in quite a bit of fuel if the backfires are anything to go by.
It’s great to see you back, always enjoy your videos. Looking forward to seeing how you get on with the road book rally’s.
Thanks Steve. Did and event today- very wet and challenging. Will film a bit more roadbook stuff once I get it straight in my head. Loved it though.
Great video mate 👍
Reckon a Voge 300 Rally would have been just the job for you without all the faffing around trying to sort the Kove👍
yep but the problem for many of us "just the job" is not really what we are after when we are out on our bike, currently own a crf 250 so I know what you say also own and trail a 12GS and had most in between, practicalities dont always equal the smiles, but without some experiences that may not be evident, it is certainly not on paper. the Voge is a good bike though.
@@bikenavbm1229 I get that.
Thanks for the comment. Head and heart are strange things!!😎
Thanks for commenting Phillip. You’re probably right, but sometimes we just do things because we want to 👍😎.
Thanks for sharing. Regarding the "noise": how much of the noise is due to the open air filter (intakte)? Regards yaK450n (yet another Kove 450 noob)
You don’t really notice the air intake noise when you’re moving- and I wear ear plugs 😎
Any update on the e10 rear performance? Cheers
What about ear indents for speakers?
After the KTM 1090S and the 1290S I’m now enjoying my R 😊 I have bought it this summer and your talk about it being nimble is spot on! The flickability is amazing for such a heavy ( on paper that is😉)bike The QS is a dream and the V2 - power is as addictive on this R as it was on the S The suspension on this R is the most surprising part of this bike Speed bumps and potholes have become insignificant nuisances 😇 Next year I’ll visit the UK 🇬🇧 and the Isle of Man Looking forward riding the twisties in your lovely country 💪 Keep up the good work and I wish you safe miles on the road 👋
That was painful to watch. CF MOTO 450.
Hi! Thanks for the great review video 😊 Quick question: can you confirm that you can wear goggles WITH the visor installed? You could with an older version but it would rely on (or create) a gap where the strap exits to the rear. I’m assuming the visor would not fully close… maybe!
Hi- I've not actually tried as I take the visor off when I use goggles- I'm curious now.
Same here, 2022 adv 890 r wont start, mtc failure... At least it has a warranty
I’m surprised there aren’t more videos about KTM 890 ADVENTUREtank damage. I ride mine in the woods and have hit my tank several times. The mounting points on the frame are bent. The crash bars connect to the same weak mounts as the tank. I thing the tank is way too wide at the bottom. Someone should make an aftermarket tank that has a narrower shape
Alex are you still about
About to get back on it- had no time or bandwidth for films for a while. I have a new toy and that is going to be the subject. Can't wait.
Alex are you still about.
The power of these lights is great. But what good is it to have powerful light when the housings made of aluminum turn onto white powder reminiscent of talc ? These lamps are expensive, but I followed advise when told “cheap ends up being expensive”. In this case these expensive lamps are not only expensive but so far Denali refused to acknowledge this issue and told me off, so I was basically ripped off. I have plenty evidence , photographic evidence to show these lights are not worth the expense. Not only because the lamps were not made of quality materials but most offensive is fact Denali cares less ! Do not buy this product unless you like to throw money out the window !
A little concerned about the number of times he says "I'm really getting used to this bike". Seems its not a bike that requires some "getting used to".
5 days is nothing with respect to learning a new bike. Give him 3-5k miles on it and maybe he’ll be able to tell u more!
Hello, I liked your video and I was interested in the screen, what brand and model is it? I tried to install a Givi model S screen on my sar, but it was too high, thank you
Sorry for the delayed reply. It's the stock KTM screens from the 1290 S and R- I just swapped them around.
I'm thinking of buying the same stand, but have the WP XPLOR PRO suspension (same as the one on the 890 Rally) with 270mm of travel. Do you think the motorcycle will be raised enough for the wheels to not touch the ground with the extra 30 mm?
I think it will get the wheels off the ground, but not by a lot- just guessing though.
it's a great helmet but i honestly think it's overpriced.
Great Review - is the transitions visor now Road legal in the UK?
i just have this Klim..actually ,i had airoh commander size XXL,but this Klim size L and it's comfort for me..the foam is so comfort for me
Thanks for sharing a great video. Some very useful information, and practical information. It’s a great channel, hopefully you’ll be uploading more videos soon?
Super job! Thanks so much for making this video; I have to change the tire on a friend's 890 tomorrow, so this was super-helpful.
The Klim Krios Pro is a $800 helmet after taxes. You would expect perfection in all aspects and it's almost there BUT the visor will NOT stay where you place it. Open it up a few notches for extra air, first little dip or bump in the road and SLAM down it comes! I love everything about this helmet except the hinge plates. They are very cheaply made. It makes me wonder if anyone that actually rides tests them?? It is a $800 helmet WT Actual F?!
Block and tackle doesn't take up much room and makes lifting/recovery solo so much easier. You can balance the bike and pull on the rope at the same time (using the compound mechanical advantage).
You probably should’ve put the kickstand up before you start lifting it. It might stop the bike from falling over the other side. Not exactly sure in your situation. Just a thought.
Man I sure wish motea shipped to US!
Excellent helmet review of the Klim Krios Pro. Choosing a Helmet can be somewhat of a minefield. I appreciate your in depth review and this has help me to narrow things down somewhat.
I just roll the rear wheel into a socket tool used to tighten the lug and it does the same thing without having to strap the bike.
Just one problem with UK bike reviews. The road speeds are a joke and no one's game enough to give a bike some stick. Just putting around.
you explained it best. super
Thanks for the video What grease do you use?
How noisy is it? Motolegends advertises it as a great urban and off road helmet but a poor one for touring because of the noise. Would you agree?
What make model is the little storage bag please ???
What are the shell sizes on these, will it make a small head look massive?
Thanks for shooting this. I have all the sympathy for this, and knowing that you’re all good, I was also laughing in pain AT you during the video. What a struggle!
