  • Great engine noise at 19:55 if you want to hear the decat!
    I don't do facts and figures in this film- we can all read those! What I do is describe the feel of the bike, good things, less good things and whether it's right for a beginner. We all know this bike can be caned by off road experts, but what's it like for mortals like us?

    Some great feedback on the first edit of this film and I agree that the background music on the talking parts was distracting. Try this version. I've not deleted the other one as it will mess with my stats while setting up this channel- thanks for understanding.
    Thanks to the observant viewer who spotted the new edit had NO sound at all rather than no music. Let's try again- I've double checked- take 3

    Really liked your video, I also see a personality that comforts. I totally agree with your opinion on the electronics, I really use these aids and appreciate them, adjust to different situations. This even if I have been riding offroad bikes for years. See You use the Mosko gear as well, great choice and woodland looks great. The Wildgarlic or Ramslök is growing here as well, making tasty olive oil with wild garlic right now actually. Spring is here and happy trails! 🙌🤠🔥

    Im also 173cm tall and this is why I went with 890 S version instead. I also installed the lower seat and I can almost flat foot the bike now. Still very capable off-road, but having ability to find balance with any leg is priceless

    Great channel. Stumbled on it by chance. Based on watching a few of your wonderfully made UA-cam videos, I am in. You're a natural. Quality video productions. I just subscribed. Keep the videos coming. Lots of good nuggets like airing front tire at 28 psi and rear at 30 psi for all around riding on and off road.
    I noticed you mentioned, you've already lifted your bike up off the ground at least 20+ times. Perhaps you can make a dedicated video to share your technique for different situations. I've gone back and forth on reinstalling my stock KTM 890 Adventure rear grab handles. But, still haven't tried them. I really need to lay the bike down in my backyard. Kam

      Really sorry I didn’t reply to this earlier. I use the grab handles for lifting and wouldn’t take them off. I tend to lift forwards rather than with my back to the bike. Definitely try it in your yard as it’s great to know you can.

    Great video - I have the 890S due to being 5'8" and having a Honda Rally for any serious off-road. Love mine - having come to it from an also great Tirumph TIger 800 and previously had the 950 adventure. Worth getting a small clip on screen (plenty on ebay) - it will make a big difference on buffeting. Impressed with your off-road skills for a 'newbie' - I baulk at rocky stuff!

    I am 5 foot 9 on a good day. I purchased a lower seat and the lower suspension kit, so now I can get 3/4 of my foot flat on the floor and that helps on the confidence. Waiting on the cooler weather to take my bike out.

    I came from the 2012 tiger 800xc and honestly with the skills I learned that bike the 890r made me look like a Dakar rider lol . It is an absolutely fantastic bike for all skill levels . Maybe not a beginner to motorcycle as a whole but a beginner off road it's tops. I think the 390 r when it's out would be a good absolute beginner bike , as in if you've never ridden

      @@advnoobie6061 I have about 3000 miles on my 390 and other than doing the front springs "because I am about 230 lbs without gear lol" it has had no problems at all going through deep sand , up and down hills and through the mud . I also changed the skid plate to the non engine mounted black dog skid plate because of the low ride hight . I think it's about 7 inches of ground clearance at most. With that you can drag it over anything in your way lol.

    Good review, I do enjoy hearing about what a bike does over the critical stats etc, especially when the reviewer hasn't formed a bias based on what those stats are. I went for the next one down, the 390, a few months ago and I think there are lots of parallels between the two. I think the 390 has a couple of things over the 890, primarily around significant weight loss at around 50kg(!) less. You still get plenty of on-road surge imo with the 390 and it corners beautifully. One thing you'd miss though I think is the torque...I've not had issues with stalling like some riders, but it's definitely a little weak low down off-road so you have a plan a bit more and rely on momentum. I say all this because I think the 390 is maybe an even better beginner option, as per KTM's own appraisal of it, but appreciate it feels like a big jump down if you've already had bigger bikes.

    Thank you for making this video. I have been on a Street Triple R for the past 5 years, and would like to start moving towards a more 50/50 off/on road split. I’ve never ridden off road, and this bike is towards the top of my list.

      Hi David- thanks for watching and sorry for the delayed reply. I love this bike off road and trust it a lot. No real issues with the bike except some loose bolts in the first couple of months riding off road. See my other videos for this.
      The rally mode is great as you can dial in rear wheel slip- level 9 is great for super slippery mud.
      I wanted a bike that would get me places on road and perform off road. It's a great all rounder- the only compromise is on long motorway miles- it's tolerable and I don't mind it, but then I ride the 1290 and it's a totally different experience.

    Very good presentation of that bike. But personnaly would not recommand it to a beginner nor to an average offroad rider, because too tall for such heavy weight. An 890 standard is far better for beginners and average, it's way lower, has better windshield, is cheaper, and very well capable off-road ( if you fit good tyres). On my side, I rode an Africa Twin 1000dct off-road for a while, and now enjoying an Husqvarna 701 Enduro with a lowering kit (I am 1,78m tall), only 160kg wet, perfect for anywhere offroad , for beginner, average or skilled offroader, even capable of commuting (little bit warm in the city), long journey (with aftermarket comfy seat); It has all electronics needed and is way cheaper than an 890.

      Hi Gilles- thanks for watching and for the comments. I'm only 174cm tall and have the lowered seat. I was really keen to take on the challenge of riding the 890 AR off road and it is my first bike capable of going off road. I had never ridden off road before September last year and it's been a blast. I do agree that it can be a handful sometimes, but that almost makes me enjoy it even more. Ultimately it's down to personal preference and I love this bike :)

      @advnoobie6061  2 роки тому

      Hello Dr B. First of all, I'm no of road expert, but I have ridden a lot of road bikes before the 890 AR. The bike is surprisingly smooth, even with Continental TKC 80 tyres. The suspension is very adjustable and can be made pretty soft if comfort is a priority. You can feel some mild vibration in the handlebars at higher speeds, but it's nothing bad and my hands and arms were fine after a 600+ mile trip on the road.

    Great Review!
    Did you had the opportunity to try it on a longer trip (around 500miles)? and with a pillion? Or since you had a 1290, so you think this is a more suitable machine for this type of use?
    Thanks

      Hi and thanks for watching. I’ve done a 500 mile round trip over two days and it was all good. I don’t ride with a pillion so can’t really comment. Id choose the 1290 everyday for long trips and it’s probably much better two up, but I love having the ability to off Road properly on the 890 after getting there in relative comfort. For me it depends on destination.

    Sometime I get bounced back to neutral from 1st to 2nd on tarmac when using clutch. Off-road or using QS(which is quite a significant rev difference) seems work flawlessly.
    Big disappointment from the stock Karoo 3 tyres to me.

      @advnoobie6061  Рік тому +1

      Hi and sorry for the late reply. The lower seat makes it more manageable, though still a bit tip toe if trying to get both feet on the ground. I've got used to that now and use the slide to one side technique now. You get used to it really fast and it's a break through feeling comfortable on a taller bike.

    When you say it peaks around 70 miles an hour for highway comfort, how bad does it get? I currently ride a Z650 that has no windscreen (well, barely) and the wind becomes unbearable past about 120km/h, will this be better? I wanted to transition to an adventure bike but also don't want to take a step back in highway riding. I live in the city so highway riding isn't optional for me.

    • @advnoobie6061
      @advnoobie6061  Рік тому +1

      Hi again. It’s really comfortable and happy at 70. I’ve ridden it at 85 (obviously on a closed private road) and it’s ok but quite a bit of wind and some front wheel wobble, so I choose to sit at lower speeds for comfort and legality!
      It is absolutely brilliant at normal road speeds and for fun twisties and road rides, in fact it’s a blast and I like it more than some road bikes I’ve had. Even on TKC 89 tyres it feels planted and I love it.
      You could for for more Road based tyres and it would be amazing.
