    Your onion harvest looks great! I planted alot but only half produced nice onions. I like to dice and freeze them to throw in recipes. Also used alot of them in salsa. This year is the first time I minced garlic and froze them in pucks. Best thing I ever did!!!! So awesome to grab them out and throw in recipes. For sure worth the effort!! If you have a small food chopper it's perfect for the garlic. I enjoy your videos! Thank you!

    Smoker - for fuel try not to use dead wood as it is difficult to keep lit and also burns with a “hot” smoke. Try using bark chips, dried grass from lawn cutting or rolled up cardboard. To make the inspections easier take out the first frame - after looking at put it to the side of the hive and this gives you more room to pull out the other frames. I would also add frame runners to the brood box - again makes it easier to manipulate the frames. The “bunch of stuff” is drone comb. A bit late for you but looks like the queen ran out of laying space and you needed to add another box below the queen excluder. You should have done something with taking down all the queen cells except for one. They may well have swarmed!

    • @gardenrowes
      @gardenrowes Місяць тому

      Thanks for the tips! We took away the queen excluder and moved some frames up and after checking a bit later, that seemed to have done the trick. No swarming and an active queen laying eggs! Just haven’t spotted her yet.

    PLEASE NO! That tomato bush is because you haven't been pruning as it grows, starting from the base walk up with your hand and cut of the majority of leaves low down. Get ready to sacrifice a few branches with fruit if they don't come from the main stem and make green tomato chutney or salsa/ Stake up the main stem to keep the growth and fruiting going longer and to allow little pollinators access to those blossoms! (also first time subscriber- Hastings UK

    • @gardenrowes
      @gardenrowes 2 місяці тому

      Thanks for the tip! The main branches are pretty long and the tomato cage it’s in has fallen over, so I’m not sure that I’ll be able to stake them up but I’ll give it a try!

    I guess my advice is more of a grocery spend challenge. You have to adapt it to you.

  • @meow98
    @meow98 2 місяці тому

    It is hard to do this challenge if your pantry isn't full to begin with, I tried, but then figured I needed to begin with more food, then set my amounts. I think it would be good to do that then set a certain amount and spend less each week, It is a backward approach to extend your stockpile. I started at fifty, and wanted to work down to twenty, I failed though, because my stockpile was to low to begin with. I would say get really stocked for a few weeks then step in and try.

    If there's no queen bees won't build out frames ie comb if u can't find the queen u can always shake bees off frames over the queen excluder using ur lid turned upside down with a box on lid I've done this to one of my hives I'm in the UK England Birmingham

    Wait s little longer, if you dont want that many just save the pnes that have more than one thats the healthiest. I ended up with eay too much stuff in the beginning lol. Its easy to get excited. Then overwhelemed. Fast. Double cup red solo cups. Best tomoato method. Poke holes in top cup, put soil and your tomato once its ready to transplant from seedling. Put water and a pebble or lava rock into a separate cup. Then put your tomoato cup into the cup with the water and the rock. It will create a gap for your roots to reach down and prevent becoming bound. My plants boomed this year. I also used those mesh bags you can get in different sizes and used straight coco coir. They were huge comared to leaving them in the trays.

    Put buckets over them to protect them. Mulch around them and then put buckets over them. It will also help keep some hunidity in there. When it storms bad, plants at risk when young I put buckets or cups over them. It works.

    I havw had success with grafting tape. Depends how bad the break is , how healthy you have your stems. I do it often with my plants I try to superceop. I end up breaking often. Grafting tape has put back a branch completely separated before. It actually.grows back stronger with a big nodule on it. Its pretty cool if you can get it to work.

    By the way you can eat the radish leaves as well. I dice them small and include them in stir fry. Start harvesting the lettuce, or it will go to seed. The arugula needs to be cut like lettuce regularly. If you let the arugula seeds continue, it will let you resow new seeds.
