Our enchanting abandoned stone house in central Portugal has been vacant for years and is in dire need of restoration. Our vision is to breathe life back into this century-old stone house - from mending the leaking roof and revamping the plumbing system to remodelling rooms. The land, though currently a sanctuary for weeds, will be cleared and turned into a sustainable homestead- all achieved on a modest budget.
We don't take ourselves too seriously, so come along and join us in our day to day lives and on our journey as we start transforming this neglected property into a warm, welcoming space and prepare the land to start "growing our own". Follow us at TeaAndTinto and please subscribe to our channel.

Farm Life Adventures: Loading Rubble, Plumbing, Building a New Kitchen, & Mollusc Wars!
Join me on a productive day of farm life as I tackle a variety of tasks around the property! 💪
In today’s video, I begin by manually loading a trailer with rubble-hard work, but essential for clearing space. Next up, I roll up my sleeves and dive into some plumbing to keep the water flowing smoothly. 🚰
The big project for the day? Opening up a new door to expand the kitchen and dining area, making way for a large, cozy space where I can cook up a storm for family and friends! 🍽️
In between, I take on the task of pruning willows to keep the garden tidy and healthy. 🌳
Then, it’s time for some electrical work as I get the power reconnected and ready to go-no more flickering lights or power outages! 💡
Finally, I tackle my ongoing battle with those pesky molluscs in the greenhouse. Slime trails beware, I’m out for victory! 🐌⚔️

So sorry about your dog, so sad to lose a best friend. I am glad to see you saving your well established plants, it will be a time and money saving journey until the weather changes!
Thanks so much, I hope so
Hi Miko, oh my yes that is a lot of rubble to have to get rid of 😮 Willow trees are beautiful and very practical in areas with water issues (as in too much 😂) their branches are also very useful for weaving all sorts of things too 😊 Ooh I hope your slug solution continues to work well 😊 Excellent on the Roses growing, you are going to have so many to transplant it will be beautiful 😍 The downstairs is coming along well but I suspect more Rubble in your future I suppose your biceps will be getting a good work out shoveling it all although I suspect you would prefer not to have to do it 😂 Take care and love to Anita xx
Yes there is a lot of rubble, we have many willows on the land and we like them , they shade us in the summer ⛱️ and have used it to make plant beds. We will be looking forward to planting the new roses as well as the vegetables. Thank you for your concern about Anita.
The young willow shoots are very good for weaving baskets or natural fences. And the bark as well as the wood was also used to extract the ingredients for a natural pain and fever treatment. The first aspirine was made from the willow wood and the bark. Now they have synthetic ingredients for the modern aspirine, however natural aspirine from willow as the main ingredient is still produced today because some people are sensitive for the synthetic ingredients. Some people make tea from the bark, however the tea making process does not extract enough working ingredients for pain treatment. Here in the Netherlands the wood was also used for the production of the wooden shoes. And the trees were also planted alongside kreek banks to prevent land erosion. And birds love to make nests in the trees. In the wild the tree doesn't grow old, but if well maintained they can grow to around 80 years or so. 👍
We also like willow they give us a lot of shade in the summer and they are beautiful in breezy days when the leaves seem to dance. I have been told that willow is the material used to make cricket bats. Thank you for your comment.

Muito obrigado, a casa fica na região de Viseu. Um Bom Ano.
Beautiful historical home. They don’t make them like that anymore and will never be able to again. Thank you for saving and restoring it. The demolition is moving rapidly. Your plan seems like a very good one. Congrats on your new family member. He is beautiful and seems very loving - a good companion. Diatomaceous earth works fantastically for slugs and snails and is all natural. It doesn’t kill them, just makes them go away. The roses turned out amazing! You saved alot of money by propagating those cuttings. They could make a great living fence around your property to keep the boars and others out of the developed areas. Please leave them a small area by the back corner so they may get fresh water from your spring. But they can’t have full roam or they will damage your hard work. Please consider setting up a trail camera so we can see them and other wildlife on your plot. And finally, best wishes with your drone. I love seeing drone footage and their unique perspective. It’s like being able to grow wings and fly in order to explore. Thanks for sharing your adventure. Watching from Pennsylvania, USA and have subscribed after watching your entire backlog. 😊

Great video - Happy New Year
Happy new year! Thank you for watching our channel.
What use will the room be. Is there access into the main house.
We are transforming the area into a large kitchen and dinner as well as a pantry. There is no internal access into the main house. Thank you for watching.
Hi found your channel yesterday and have just finished watching them all. Watching from the UK .
Thank you so much Jane. great to have you with us! Happy New Year
An idea for that problem atea is to build a block of cabinets there that are useable on both sides; an island facing the kitchen, and open shelves on the other side. The steps will go down to a lower area where a table can be placed. I have seen shows where architects will do this when there is a distinct difference in floor levels within a kitchen/dining area. Good luck!😊
What a great idea. Thank you. I wish you a great New Year.
There are several primitive methods to get those larges stones up. But not so long ago I watched a video that gives an idea about how it could have been done. The video is called.... DERRICK & CRANES (Maine Granite Museum) Mike Haduck. ⬅ copy and paste this entire title, and you will find the video. From sailing vessels the people were familiar with block and tackles and hoisting heavy equipment or heavy sails for centuries. They had devices similar to a windlass, on sailing vessels they were called a capstan. But for the primitive cranes on shore oxen were used as well. The Romans used men powered treadmill cranes in various forms, even the columns from the pantheon were raised with treadmill cranes. And in medieval times castles were also build with treadmill cranes. I am watching from the Netherlands. 👍
Hello friend from the Netherlands. Thank you for your recommendation,I will for sure be watching it. Happy New Year.
What a lovely dog! Happy New Year to you and Anita and the whole family! Sending Anita a special hug since she's away taking care of her mum! 🌷💗
Thank you and a Happy New Year.

How nice to have a new companion with you. You have been busy and yes I would like to know also how the massive rocks were placed into the buildings. It’s all such a mastery. Merry Christmas wishes with blessings for a wonderful New Year to you both. 🇨🇦

Hi Miko 😊 Yay a sponsorship deal so pkeased for you 😁 well done on being brave and using it I have to admit that would terrify me 😂 Lots of work done with knocking down that wall and lots on your family's property I wish them good luck in selling it 😊 What a beautiful dog and great company for you while Anita is away 😊 I hope you both had a lovely Christmas and that Anita is doing well. Take care, Happy New Year and I look forward to your next video whenever that is as I realise life goes on and things can interfere with filming which is totally understandable 😊
Thank you so much Polgara. We really appreciate your support. I am doing OK but mum is very poorly. Wishing you a Happy New Year too!
@TeaAndTinto I am glad you are ok but I am sorry to gear your Mum isn't doing well. I really hope that the new year see's some improvement for you. We are having concerns about my Mum at the moment she is 82 and struggling with many things. We are trying to get her moved nearer us so we can take care of her better (she lives in the middle of Durham countryside right now and it's difficult to get there). Take good care of yourself and 🤗🤗
Lovely dog and companion. I must have missed an episode as not sure if Anita is ok. Happy New year to you both from Suffolk, England.
Thank you very much Liz in Suffolk- great part of the UK. I (Anita) am OK but mum is very poorly and so I am in the UK looking after her. Wishing you a very Happy New Year!
Love your vidios...thank you for taking us along for your dream ...love and blessings P..from Pennsylvania ❤❤❤
Hello friend from Pennsylvania. Thanks for watching! We are glad you enjoyed them.
Sending renewed wishes to Anita's mum. Hoping she's comfortable and improving. ❤ Your home is beautiful
Thank you very much Ingrid.
It is obvious that an equal level floor is more practical. But it is not always possible or economically viable to create it in an existing building. I think that for the largest part it depends on the doorways, and perhaps also the windows, and if you are willing and have the funds to make major changes to those doorways and windows if needed. But it is hard to judge just by watching this video. From what I can see it seems that it would be easier to raise the lowest floor level, instead of lowering the highest floor level. Because the inside doors would not match the floor level if you would lower the highest part of that floor. But there will always be some steps at some location, whether it is inside the building or outside the building. Although outside the building you can also make a smooth ramp without steps. Or create a terrace that is level with a new doorway. If you still insist on leveling the entire floor then I would go for raising the lowest part of the floor. And if you can afford it it would also be a great opportunity to install floor heating. Or at least some insulation.
Thank you for your advice. It is a difficult one to sort.
@@TeaAndTinto Another option is to leave it as it is, and to think about possible indoor solutions for people with mobility issues if that ever becomes an issue. Such as a staircase lift or something like that.
That sounds like a good idea. I can use the lower part as a coffee area allowing for in the future to have some sort of lift. Thank you again for your help.
Dec 5, 2024 Love your house and the work that you are doing- Did Miko have any experience in building or renovating? Best wishes from Florida, US

Is there a finished floor under the old kitchen floor/steps? Whatever your plans, try to keep as few steps as possible on the main/ground floor. Plan ahead to have spaces so that you can live fulltime on this main floor. Kitchen, living area, bathroom, and bedroom spaces. If someone is hurt or as we age, stairs and steps are a major hazard area. Thanks for including your viewers on your journey to save this home. Houston, Texas USA
Thank you so much friend in Houston, Texas, for your valued advice and this is certainly something we have thought about looking into the future. If we are to stay here in our golden years, then one of us may have mobility issues and this floor would be perfect to use. Incidentally Anita has distant relatives in San Saba, Texas.
Check out Mozambique peri peri recipe Easy to make Delish on chicken on a barbecue Last for ages I prep it then liqudize with Xtra Xtra garlic
Miko well done on the cooker and hood installation it looks very good. Leaves will be great on the garden 😊 I have no recommendations on the drop ir use of the room sorry hopefully a builder or someone will be able to give advice. Sorry to hear Anita will be away for Christmas that must be very hard for you both 🤗🤗
If they are kinda orange and feathery on the underside: they are chanterelles. Superb mushrooms with garlic and parsey and scramblet egg. Yum! All looks good and we have 60F in North Texas. Edit: what a stove!🎉
Thank you so much. We love chanterelles too. Leaves are great compost, let's hope there's no wind 😁

Thanks Tinto 😊for showing us how you remove all of the covered granite,It will be worth all the hard work once it’s done in this room.
