Thanks for the video!… kids also love the botanical trail by sand creek in Beulah. My daughter did Crow Peak at 5, but then didn’t want to go hiking much after that ☹️
Nice video👍 Been kind of smoky, hazy and hot🥵 here in Gillette all week
Only 105 here today! 😂🥵
Wildfire haze???
I didn’t think we had that over the weekend, but definitely getting some of that now!
Very well done, been to most at my time in Western South Dakota. The videos were accurate and your narrative about the trails was accurate, very well done.
Thank you for the kind words!
Awesome video!! And very informative.
Thank you for watching! Glad you liked it!
Were going to do both hikes to see the waterfalls. Think we will try Guadalajara's do you recommend anything?
I love their carne asada!
We were just there yesterday! Great weather.
Awesome!
Hooray Mom & Greg!! I think long hikes or late starting hikes (with risk of finishing after dark) need a simulcast with split screen of you and Mom! Also, Trail Addicts bingo card might be fun: Things Amber forgot, Amber takes a wrong turn, expletives, etc. might be fun. Another fun video. Love the content.
Haha! Those are some great ideas. But if we did a split screen of my mom, she’d prob be cussing more than me! 😂
Love your videos!! Just a suggestion if I may, is there a way to equal the volume out some between your voice and the music? With your voice as soft as it is, I have to crank the volume up to hear you, and then when you switch to the music it blows my speakers out.. or I could just be hard of hearing!!.. hahahaha
I will talk to my video editor and see if he can fix that. Thank you for the feedback!
Superb I really admire you and the work you do. THANKS
Thank you so much! I appreciate it!
Please be careful.❤
I try to be! Sometimes. 😁
Thanks for taking me on your hike. I miss the Black Hills.
Thank you for watching!
I volunteer to be shuttle driver 👋.
You’ll have to arm wrestle my mom for that position! 😁
Kids! Appreciate your Mom.
Some day they will look back and appreciate all the times I “tortured” them by making them hike with me! 😁
Is this area affected by the flooding like in the east? Planning to come in 2 weeks from Central Iowa.
No, we have not been affected by flooding here
Rattlesnakes like rocks 🪨 😮😳⚠️
Snakes aren’t bad. Just give them their space. Would much rather come across a snake than a spider! 😊
No crazy deer this hike.
Fortunately not this time! 😁
Great video! Thanks for sharing all this info. 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you for watching!
Just finished this exact route thanks to your suggestion .Thank you so much as it was wonderful!(I never saw where to go to do the other direction)
Awesome! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
You are a legend. I bet your Fit bit thinks the same. You give us inspiration to get out and explore
Aw, that’s so nice of you to say. Thank you! 😊
So pretty... cant wait to go back !!!
It never gets old!
I don't like nothing that ain't got shoulders
😂 that has got to be the most unusual way I’ve ever heard someone say they don’t like snakes!
We are hiking Black Elk Peak tomorrow and I can't wait. Love all your vids and info. Good stuff and great scenery!! Keep it up !!!!!
Thank you! Have fun at Black Elk Peak!
@trailaddictSD it was a nice hike.. little too busy for me lol but the views were worth it. We did Big Pine and Horsethief Lake and a few more. The Black Hills never disappoint!. So many trails so little time
@@grandanbarbee7460 yes, Black Elk Peak can be busy. I usually take one of the other routes to the top to avoid people most of the way. Just posted a video for one of the other routes this morning. It's longer, but won't see many people until you get to the top, so worth it in my book! ua-cam.com/video/B72flMm0laQ/v-deo.htmlsi=Sf7Tpy63wMeQZXdS
Coming from hot springs. What’s the best route to get there?
Quickest way: Hwy 79 to I90 to spearfish then take hwy 14 (spearfish canyon)
Bring somebody you don't like to break through the spider webs!
Yes!
Do you have to be on the lookout for bears? Do you take bear spray with you.
No. Technically we don’t have bears although there have reports of black bears being spotted occasionally.
She has large beautiful eyes. Like one of those paintings of a little girl with large prominent eyes.
Thank you!😊
That meadow at the top was a good spot for a Maria/Julie Andrews reenactment from Sound of Music…missed opportunity 😂😂😂 How are you finding the trails regarding ticks? Do you just spray beforehand and do you find it effective?
I’ve only had one tick this year and that was on the sturgis trail that starts at lions club park. Sometimes I spray, sometimes I forget. 🤷♀️ but I did get into some poison ivy on this trail, so watch out for that!
@@trailaddictSD Had one after Little Devil’s Tower/Poet’s Table but was likely the latter. Sprayed but must have found the one resistant one.
Great views! And what an awesome day to be outdoors! 😄💥👍
Everyday is an awesome day to be outdoors! (Almost!) 😉
Did many of these trails several years ago. They were all great. However I loved the sections of the Centenial Trail I was able to do. Would like to come back and do some more. Great job!
The Centennial is a great trail also. Thank you for the comment!
I loved little devils tower! I took my dog with me when I did it. I had to help her get down and up in places and also bring water for your dog!
Nice! I think those rocks at the top would be challenging for most dogs!
Just did Little Devil’s Tower today! In my book it’s a Top 3 hike. 1-Black Elk Peak 2-Little Devil’s Tower 3-Notch Trail (Badlands)
It was difficult to narrow down the list!
It was a good list. Only “snub” may have been Bear Butte. But agreed, difficult to narrow down.
@@moonpup66 It was more difficult to come up with 10 than i had anticipated. So many great trails here!
#MurderDeer with the cameo! AWESOME!!!
🤣
Great job putting all that info together!😄👍
Thank you! I kept rethinking and changing my list. It was never going to get done if I didn’t just make a decision and go with it! 😁
Some great hikes further out from Roughlock down FSR 222
That is true!
Gotta love teenage boys 😂 I love your vids, they are helpful. Im heading to spearfish this weekend!
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoy!
Love that you add in other area trails (and dining suggestions). Your experience might amend the current trending debate as follows: Who would you rather come across in the woods, a man, a bear,or pre-teen boys? I’m sure the queso did the trick.
lol…definitely would not choose teenage boys!
😆
Hows the wildlife? Bears???
@@johtapia1 No bears. Very rarely one passing through the Black Hills. Mountain Lions, Rattlesnakes, and Bison are the main ones humans need to be wary of.
@@moonpup66 in the trails?
When my husband and I did this trail several years ago, we were warned about rattlers by other hikers. Didn't get as far as you did as the the trail got so over grown we were leery about not being able to see the rattlers.😳
I’m glad it was just a bull snake I saw!
Might have been a Marmot.
Yes! That looks to be about the right size and color!
Ed Sheeran is a marmot 😆
Do you carry anything specific to protect against any creatures like a mountain lion?
I have some tricks up my sleeve. 😉
I do admire your determination. I too forget things> I have found it helpful to make a master list of everything I need for my trips. When I discover I forgot something I add it to the master list for future trips. It is an on going process but it has helped me travel for comfortable.
That’s a great idea!
15:20 me and my dog little pockets were attaked by a mountain lion. It had little pockets luckily i threw a rock and hit it. I got Little pockets and we got out. Be careful it can happen to you also
I’m glad you were able to get your dog and get away! That had to be so scary!
@@trailaddictSD it was
OY! You take too many chances!! Make a list of hiking needs....keep bug spray in backpack, get a charger. I use AllTrails and it lets me know when I get off the trail and how to get back on it, if I've downloaded it beforehand. Stay safe.
Wow that is some great terrain! Never really seen South Dakota. Thank ya for the upload! 30:46 Looked really cool on camera with the flashlight! 😍😍🤩🤩
thank you for watching!
@@trailaddictSD Any time my friend! Having fun learning about youtube lol
Well if this isn’t the ULTIMATE answer to the Man vs Bear question, I don’t know what is. Hope that gets its own little segment! Way to represent us Ken!
POV: Worried about creek crossings!! Films creek crossing Crosses back to pick up camera Crosses creek again😂😂😂
So true! I don’t think a bear would have let me use his battery charger. They can be such jerks! 😉
@@trailaddictSD hahahaha
😂 I picked an easier one to film! I figured it was good practice anyways.
@@trailaddictSD The end with the flashlight lighting up the trail looked really cool!! Just a thought, but a can of bear spray might be a good investment. Would work great against mountain lions, aggressive dogs, etc..., you'd probably never need it, but I look at it like a concealed carry. Would rather have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it!
I went and got the TASD at your office the other day. Wanted to say HI but you weren't there. Perhaps that's when you did this hike. Did you notice the trail across from Mt Coolidge on top of Heddy Draw, on the right side of it? Have hiked it a couple of times, but not down into the draw. LOL didn't want to have to climb back up it.🥴
I’m sorry I missed you! I have not done that trail yet. I will have to check it out!
I picked up your trail guide at the Visitor Center in Hill City. Very impressive. Thanks.
Awesome! Glad you like it!
nice
Thanks
Yup Manitou is no joke
It was a challenge for sure!
Great video...
Thank you!
Most welcome....I am a local....and it is always good to see out of towners.
