The first time my husband and I hiked Boland we came across several elk and were so engrossed watching them we never noticed the big bull bison come up behind us. When we turned around there he was about 50 feet behind us. We gave him a wide birth and he was ok. Last time we hiked Boland the bison were at least a mile in the distance. When we turned back several headed in our direction and when we got to the car about 8 surround the car. Interesting occurrences have happened to us on the Boland Ridge Trail with bison and pronghorns, but thankfully none dangerous as long as you are calm and respect them. Got great photos.
I bet that was awesome seeing elk on the trail! I ran into a big bull on lookout point trail a few years ago. I gave him plenty of room, he didn’t seem to care about me but it was still nerve racking trying to get by him!
Hasn’t been this much drama since the #MurderDeer. Great suspense and great to see our heroes live to hike another day! That bison who ran in front of the car….WOW!!
lol…I know he was just being young and playful but I was glad I was in my car!
Years ago there were Elk in that area frequently but in the last ten years the Buffalo seem to have taken over.
