Is eating healthy really *that* complicated?
Переглядів 563Місяць тому
I spent over a decade dieting going from one thing to the next, on a continual search for the "perfect diet". Dieting never brought me the health I was desiring, quite the opposite actually. What made me feel well was introducing a plethora of food back in and not holding back on calories. Now grocery store shopping is a breeze and I don't overthink my food choices. If you're ready to find your...

    I was raw vegan for about a year. I’m still unpacking the emotional damage and that was 4 years ago. I initially lost 150 pounds. Then I gained it all back and then some. I’m finally regaining my relationship with food and myself but it’s been a rough couple of years.

    One day i didnt have the energy to climb stairs at the age of 23 and something in me was like - I am 23 this is not it… fighting with the “ vegan voice” and just writing everything down on my mental issues, I just had enough, my body ,I think ,and I randomly had salmon that day and never looked back. My mental health, my appearance and my cognitive abilities came back, but it was a long process, it has been only 3 years back on omni . And yes my mental issues were always present in my life but got way worse on veganism, having adhd I basically became a vegetable with no character or opinion. So grateful that my body pushed me to eat fish. It has been the best 3 years of my life after that prison 😂. I was vegetarian since the age of 16, then had severe anorexia and was vegan from the age of 19 till 23. For some time I still thought that vegetarianism was not that bad, but nope, since eating fish , poultry and beef, its just completely night and day.

    I didn't even bother to watch the whole video beyond the first 30 or so seconds. It was a huge "red flag" that you're bashing veganism because you ran into issues, then mentioned eating disorders and orthorexia.🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️ The problem isn't the diet, it's *you* . Nobody told you to starve yourself, or even to be raw vegan. People go to extremes and then blame a vegan diet. Worse, they confuse the diet with *veganism* , which is an ethical stance, *not a diet* . I'm an ethical vegan over 7 years and I've never had a problem keeping weight on or had my hair falling out or any of the other symptoms of malnutrition that ex-vegans complain about. Maybe try not to be just raw vegan and eat some cooked food, too? Maybe add more fat to your diet? Maybe add more (or less) carbs? Maybe don't neglect supplementing with B12? Maybe stop starving yourself and eat enough? Maybe go to a plant-based nutritionist and get yourself sorted if you run into problems? (If you were an ethical vegan, you would have cared enough to do that much, but it was obviously only just another diet🙄). You people never do any of that, and then you have the nerve to bash not only a vegan diet, but by association, the lifestyle, itself.🤷‍♀️ That just shows your ignorance and insecurities. You''d rather blame veganism for your downfall (and as a way to justify eating animals and their byproducts) than to admit that your dysfunctional relationship with food created your problems. I was low carb for a few years before becoming vegan, and not once do I ever bash low carb. It just wasn't sustainable for me and raised my cholesterol too high. If other people thrive with it, fine.. but I don't go around bashing it, even as a vegan. Find what works for you and your body.. but if you take any eating "style" to an extreme, you're going to run into issues. That's what happened here, but you (and people like you) will never admit it.🙄🥴

    My ibs led me to restricted diets which led to disordered eating bit I think under it all was the desire to be thin so I could be lovable and a way to have control of something in my chaotic upbringing. Problem is I still have ibs-c at 40 and therefore still have to be wary of eating alot of things. So is the key to just not let it bother me and not worry about what I eat to build acceptance?

    Traditional ways of recovery tend to only focus on the food aspect. And some even scratch a little beneath the surface. But the food is never the sole issue of an ED. There are sooo many factors at play. There is a reason it is categorized as a mental illness. Finding the right help is CRUCIAL to overcoming an ED. I can't speak enough on how essential Chloe's approach and technique were for my recovery. It went beyond the "why". She brought to light all aspects that played a role in how my ED developed. Things I would never have uncovered by myself or through traditional institutions/therapists. Once those aspects were brought to light, there were clear action-oriented plans put in place for me to cement my recovery. Cannot thank her and her program enough for helping give me my life back.

      And yet so many recovery coaches and eating disorder treatment centers are "doing" food wrong. We need more than anything to know that after a period of extreme dieting or restriction, we must let go of all the food rules and eat entirely unrestrictedly for as long as it takes to be completely nutritionally rehabilitated

    To be fair, the amount of UPF we have now didn't exist 50-100 years ago. We didn't have to think much about the food in the grocery stores, because they all sold real food, and you could probably go around the grocery store blind folded and still pick out something nutritious. It's not really surprising most people are so confused about nutrition, because UPF isn't food, but we're constantly bombarded with it. And your grocery haul is mostly real food, so you do put a lot of thought into what you eat, but it's second nature to you now. Just playing devils advocate 😁

    • @daysoftheboo
      @daysoftheboo Місяць тому

      I totally agree with what you said, nutrition is complicated and yeah there's so much stuff in the grocery stores now in a huge majority of what they sell is not food its food like products , we do have to think about food if we want to make the right choices, sometimes we do have to obsess over it a little but it's kind of like skin care , for me skincare is very overwhelming and confusing but I still have to put thought into it or else I'll choose the wrong skin care products Not to compare food and skin care but in some ways they are similar

    • @flowwithchlo
      @flowwithchlo Місяць тому

      I think understanding what is supportive for you and not is less complicated than we think though, right? Like I didn't need to overly think about my grocery store shopping cause I was stumped as to if powdered donuts was a supportive breakfast or not. So if you are just in general choosing Whole Foods to make real meals with-- yogurt, eggs, meat, very, fruit, bread, rice, potatoes-- then it's not too much to think about :)

    Raw veganism is not a viable diet for most people. Most people need grains and beans.
