A great video! I have somehow only seen two films from 1949, but both are masterpieces in my opinion, the two films being Late Spring and The Third Man. I actually watched The Third Man for the second time ever yesterday, and I think it just might be my favorite film noir of all time. A beautiful, expertly crafted movie. Cheers!
It's one of those films that is straight 5 star, almost perfect. I put it with movies like Psycho, Chinatown, The Exorcist, Citizen Kane, Alien and Raging Bull.
I wouldn’t call The Third Mad (a movie I saw so many time) « film noir » though many do, because a film noir is more intimate and needs an evil woman in it, I’d rather call it « suspense ». Greetings from France 🇫🇷
As always, your 'Top 10 Film' vids are insightful and informative with the bonus of a dash of wry humour. This time round I would have had 'Kind Hearts & Coronets' at #2. You certainly have an excellent taste in films, sir. You deserve more views and subscribers - Please keep up the excellent work!
I'll just add Gun Crazy. Still chilled to the bone over Kind Hearts & Coronets and I've seen ot a few times. Made even deeper chills when I finally saw it uncut as an adult. The ultimate Dennis Price role.
She Wore s Yellow Ribbon is one of the most beautiful color films I've ever seen. Other wonderful films from this year that Ive seen are White Heat, Caught, Gun Crazy, Border Incident, They Live By Night, I Shot Jesse James, Thieves Highway
Great video! The Third Man would have to be my number one was well. Melville’s Silence of the Sea is a really underrated post-WW2 French film. Just curious, do you write about films as a career or just do this as a fun thing on the side?
Top 10 for 1949 10. Adam's Rib 9. Kind Hearts and Coronets 8. On The Town 7. All The King's Men 6. She Wore A Yellow Ribbon 5. The Reckless Moment 4. White heat 3. Whiskey Galore 2. Late Spring NUMBER ONE: THE THIRD MAN
Solid top ten as ever. Though i'd have to put Kind Hearts over White Heat, personally speaking. Colorado Territory, The Set Up, The Reckless Moment - also good from 1949. .
RISO AMARO ( Giuseppe De Santis, 1949). Excellent Italian film with twists & turns like a snake. Thanks for recommending this one. And the dancing & women ain't bad either...
Thanks. I have seen 7 out of 10 (I have a problem with Asian movies). Love The Third Man. About Ealing Studios, have you seen The Man in the White Suit and Passport to Pimlico, so funny pictures ? Greetings from France 🇫🇷
I enjoyed the moody. Portrait of Jenny, a ghost romance. Africa Screams was an Abbot and Costello comedy with all the big name Hunters in cameos. On the serious side, Two war films. Sands of Iwo Jima and, Twelve O"Clock High. Musicals seemed popular, On the Town was a good one, Take Me Out to The Ball Game and In the Good Old Summer Time. lighthearted fare to be sure, entertaining too. Not too much for spectical save, Samson and Delilah. A not so popular biblical yarn., brought the house down, And then my favorite; Mighty Joe Young.
I know The Third Man is going to be gushed over in the comments but I have strong reservations about it. Will post my review if anyone cares to see it.
I actually need to see Mighty Joe Young. Only seen the terrible remake. I really enjoy Fred Astaire's dance numbers but only a few of the films do I like as a whole.
Thank you! It's always a joy to watch your top 10! I never saw Kind Hearts and Coronets. I will tonight. Much love and good wishes sent your way!
Love these. Always gets me to watch a few movies that I would never seen before. Greetings from The Netherlands.

yep, The Third Man is simply incredible. and in so many ways. easily in my top 10 all time.
Great list. The Third Man is a solid masterpiece. A bit disappointed Adam's Rib and The Heiress weren't in there though, but hey ho.
You're really like the C.S. Lewis of UA-cam. You're British and your main series was not released in chronological order.
Great list. Must check out Bitter Rice now. (Love Queen of Spades and They Live By Night and Passport to Pimlico from this year tho'.)

I used to write for a film website but it's never been a career. It would be a dream job but it's so competitive. Now just happy to do it as a hobby!
@@1-2many Yeah, I'm in a similar boat. It's tough out there!

Was looking at what movies came out in 1949. Seemed to be few titles I recognized. Seems I’m yet to see a single movie from this year…
Two of my favorite film noirs from 1949 are Too Late For Tears and Impact.
I need to give Impact a look. Cheers!
