You must be due some better luck soon James. Sorry I missed you at the weekend
@@jonlem45 hopefully mate. See you at snetterton if it's fixed
@@graceenginedevelopments Knockhill for me next
Great video Brilliant I want a go 😎👌🏽
Thank you, you should book in and do it.
Great video, shame the engine let go, but you got it back without a hole in block. The two kids were great.
Thanks mate.Yes we were very lucky. Yes they were funny
Cracking video James. I feel your pain with the manifold bolts, I have similar on my kitcar, some I changed to Allen cap screws for easier access. Interesting failure of the piston, I do like a good air crash investigation 😂 All the best.
Thank you, yes I'm not sure what caused it to fail, maybe fatigue. 👍
Great vid once again James, cracking team! Is it the 60G box you run in those pickups? Are you able to run flatshift in that series ?
Thanks lee, yes it is, no we can't run flat shift unfortunately
@@graceenginedevelopments ah that’s unfortunate! A lot of us use the 60g for rallying, great reliable unit! No doubt you rebuild it yourself? If ever you’re in doubt with anything feel free to give me a shout. I do a lot of work with them
Thank you, I will. Mines been pretty good only problem I've had was with the needle rollers in the tailshaft
Whoever hovered the car out is rubbish there is a load of crap sliding about in the passenger footwell, give the grandkids something to do :))
I agree mate
Why did you slacken your belts Why you were still a speed on the track ? And oil going everywhere . Crew member from down under
Hi Kit, I reduced my speed and wanted to be ready to just jump out near some marshalls if I saw flames, the smoke was bad in the car.
@@graceenginedevelopments good move I was watching from a few away miles away !
Thank you, I could sense you watching me🧐
Great video. Thanks mate. You'll beat the Donnington bad luck.
Thank you, yes hopefully next time we will finish the weekend
Well done James. Your grandkids are brilliant
Thank you, they are funny.
Great video lads. Love the 2 boys commentary.
Thank you, yeah kids are funny just natural.
A Man after my own heart never mind the time you have got to kno🤣
Thank you
If it was easy, everyone would do it!
Very true Kevin, could do with a change of luck, we will fix and move on to the next one at snetterton
Bad luck mate
Thanks mate
Ah yes, many fond memories of trying to get those exhaust manifold bolts off. Don't think the skin on my knuckles has ever fully recovered.
Yes mate.. worst part of the truck
Sorry to see the weekend wasnt a good one like we all want when racing. Least you have good people around you to help and ease the frustrations👍makes all the difference. Onwards and upwards mate
Yes it does mate. Thanks 👍
I’ve just shown Oliver this video, he is so happy that you gave him a shout out! Thank you for making him happy😃
You're welcome, he's a polite little dude.
Thanks@@graceenginedevelopments
@user-mh9ef5ox1b no worries
Harsh outcome, but as with everything Racing it could've been so much worse.
Yes harsh and expensive for about 8 laps but hey ho.. just need to fix it and I have some ideas for more power
Excellent work as usual
Thanks Philip
Very enjoyable to watch over a lunchbreak! Good work on the thumbnail too 😀
Thanks mate
I'm going to be a safety nazi. Ive had aluminium swarf in my eyes from using a burr on an air grinder. Please wear safety glasses, i've only got 1 good eye now. Good repairs tho, at least the old girl gets to live and be enjoyed.
Yes I know.. I do remember then when I start filming they fog up and I can't see.. not an excuse I do need to remember, thanks for viewing 👍
How much would that amount of cylinder head work cost?
Hi James, I think the end bill was around £750 I can't remember to be honest
@@graceenginedevelopments brilliant thanks. I'm rebuilding a 205 at the moment and think it'll be worth sorting the head before I get the engine back in.
had one like that . used 1/2 bsp being a tapper to help with the sealing . good outcome tho mate
Thank you
Gr8 vid thanks mate i will like to watch more builds regarding ford
I'm filming a pinto at the moment
Great video👍 excellent engineering work
Thanks Mike 👍👍
Good work !
Thank you
What does this run
It's out of a pickup race car
What a fantastic and informative video, the finished article is a real credit to your skill and attention to detail, very inspiring.
Thank you very much.
Well done that man 👍
Thank you
great repair lad keep up the great work
Thanks Mark, will do.
Love your attitude, I'm not happy, I want it done right. Proper pride in your work
Thanks Steven, I do love it.
very fair price good man
Thank you
Excellent. The amount of people I see not backing off when tapping. Great to see someone doing it as I was taught at Rolls-Royce back in 1981. No monkey snot Trefolex Cutting Compound lol.
Thank you, yes it's surprising that the old methods are disappearing
Yep, you are not wrong. I was taught to tap threads in Metalwork classes when I was 12, 55 years ago. Basically, once the tap or die has got a grip, I do one full turn forwards to get going, then back off 1/2 a turn, then forwards a full turn. So effectively you are only cutting forwards 1/2 a turn at a time and are clearing the cut thread by half a turn. I have not broken a tap for donkeys years and I was doing M6 in 316 stainless yesterday to 20mm deep.
@billdoodson4232 you were taught properly. We will hopefully take someone on soon to try and teach
could have used a 22mm plug as used on old harleys and tractors
He wanted to convert to M14 so it's easy. But you're right he could have.
Excellence as usual James! I'm probably gonna come up and see you soon for a chat about the TC 😀
Ok mate, next week will be better for me
@@graceenginedevelopments No worries !
@mreuropa88 thanks mate
That was an enjoyable and informative video for a person like me who has never been trained in metalwork! Kudos to you for giving your customer a great cost! I respect that. 👍. Just one question: would using an adhesive be much easier than welding the insert in position? I assume that as you did not do that it might not be a good idea because of the high temperature of the combustion chamber.
Thanks Roy, adhesive may have been a good idea I'm just worried it would come loose and come out with the plug.. would have been quicker that's for sure.
Beautiful job mate. And a lovely approach to your pricing for this customer. Benefits will return to you in other ways. And I love your affection for the old machines. Cheers, Peter.
Thanks Peter, customer seemed happy so that's nice . It's nice helping keep the vintage stuff on the road.
MrCrispin at this best , nice thinking on taping half way on the I.D tread , any thoughts on fitting the plate to the top of the block ! Kit from down under
Thanks Kit. What do you mean by fitting a plate? When welding?
Thanks very much for another great video. That was brilliant advert for your business. Not everything is a full rebuild. Regards, Steve. 👍
Thanks Steve
Hahaha! Sit still boy 🤣
😂😂😂😂 she said.. wow it's only took 3 years..
Well done mate nice repair cant put a price on your professionalism The money will come back in other jobs (that is a stunning build room)
Thanks Stephen, yeah I just under quoted, I don't mind too much I like the older stuff. Yes I love my build room just need to mop the floor this week
Nice repair. Done a lot of tig on s/s etc but never ally. What were the settings for the welder please.
Thank you.. what setting do you want
@@graceenginedevelopments Well im never going to do it. Just wondering what frequency and current you used 😀
@Doug.... I'm now professional with the welder.. but the settings are 180amp. Arc force is in the middle, balance is at 70% frequency is continuous
@@graceenginedevelopments Interesting. Thanks for taking time out to explain. My experience is with maintenance repairs using scratch start and current only setting.😆
Really enjoyed this
Thanks David. I'm pleased
Would that original thread be 13/16" perhaps? Be surprised if there was a metric thread on a machine from the '30s? Either way, a really nice repair/mod 😃
Yes it was, I measured the diameter and assumed it was.. didn't really Matter what it was because we were making it M14.. thank you the repair looked good.
They have been metric ever since there was a standard for plugs. 18mm was quite common prewar with side valve engines but later OHV 14 for most things till Japanese bikes came along with 12 and 10.
@chrisstephens6673 I thought so Chris, thanks for the knowledge

How much to do this on my st150 id have to bring the car to you, and you remove the engine and if you could supply and fit a whole rebuild like this, how much all in please
Hi. I'm sorry but we don't work on cars, just the engine, you would need to bring the engine into us removed.
@@graceenginedevelopments okay no worries what this rebuild cost with all supplied and fitted please
@TonyW3bb95 it depends on spec, around 5k
Haha good try , I guess its spanner time 😀
what fluid do you run in the machine when testing flow rates and running then to clean them? thanks
Hi, both the test fluid and the cleaning fluid come direct from the company that manufactures the machine.
