Like many of your commentators, I owned an MGB roadster. It had been rebuilt and was a delight to drive. Thank you for keeping the marque alive through your amazing engineering skills. I too would love to see the twin engine builds and see the difference in performance.
In the US, what you've done to the MG engine is sometimes referred to as "Blueprinting". A friend of mind had it done to the Bugeye Sprite that he raced. I never realized all that it entailed until your excellent video. Thank you.
Great idea for the two engines. One fairly standard and the other fully tuned. Nice to see your customer had done this build justice with the finishing and refit. Looks smart 👌🏼 MGB
MGB. Great work james and yes once you have time and sorted the dyno out it would make great idea to show the difference between a standard build and one of your full race builds 👌👍
MGB. I am not trained in metal work or mechanical engineering so that was very interesting to me. Thanks for a truly fascinating and educational video.👍
Great educational video James. I had just started assembling my 1971 mgb engine in Oct. 2022 when I found your channel. I did not have the crank balanced but I did buy a scale and matched the weight of the piston/rod assemblies with no grinding needed. Two were identical in weight, one was a gram lower and one was a gram higher. Engine runs smooth as an electric motor. I really enjoy your videos. North Carolina USA😊
Thank you I'm pleased the video helped you.. North Carolina is somewhere I'm desperate to visit.. I want to see the old days of thunder barn and do some of the shop tours.. my wife thinks I won't want to come back. Lol
I haven’t but I would be happy to test one. I have fitted an HRG crossflow head to a 1622 race engine for a friend, that’s still going strong and had a few class wins, I’ve attached the link just in case you would like to watch. ua-cam.com/video/poMZdg97Tho/v-deo.htmlsi=jOTwj0Cl8smeRGfK
Excellent MG B video! I think for thise 2 engines, one completely standard with new parts, the other all out race engine, just to show the difference in what is done, and the difference in power
Yeah, my initial thoughts would be to show how much a standard engine can be improved on, but you're right, better can makes it more interesting to a buyer. Will be good to see in any case
Amazing how much machinery you need to do a first class engineer rebuild plus the cost and of course the knowledge you have to do it ,hats off to you .great video
James, I really enjoy your videos (my wife thinks I'm a complete anorak) the precision you attain is far beyond what I imagined was necessary it's brilliant. I'll be talking to Will at Beech Hill soon about my car.
Always find your videos interesting, must be a great job to have. Mind you, you have amassed a lot of great equipment as well. MGB. By the way the container has finally arrived in NZ, I hope to see everything in a week or so. I will have to get the video footage off you at some point
So glad to see and MGB engine worked on by a master of his craft. Any chance of doing a Lotus 907 or 910 in the future? Would absolutely love to see a teardown of one of those.
I would really like to see a video of the two engines as you suggest. I have a MGB and am very tempted to upgrade the engine to a fast road unit. Looking forward to the video already.
I guess your MGB series engines are both 5-main bearing varieties? If they're both similar state of repair, how about treating both similarly re: balancing & cam profile / timing, but put a recent crossflow head on one as a comparator. THAT would be a definitive crossflow answer to a perennial b-series question. Keep up the great content.
James I am not familiar with the ceramic product you used could you please give some information on it . Was looking forward to some engine development this year and throughing in my two bobs worth. Kit from down under
The serdi came with some other machines we bought, we are gathering tooling for it. But will probably sell it to be honest we have 2 good seats cutters
@graceenginedevelopments nah my mate tried to teach me, i dropped the new oil filter through the engine into the bucket of old oil 😂 I've just always enjoyed watching a professional. Whether glass blowing, engineering or whatever
Seriously, this is one of youtube’s most underrated channels.
Thank you.. I'd love to know how to change that
@@graceenginedevelopmentskeep pumping the videos out, great idea about the 2 MGB engines.
Thank you.. I'll try
MGB ! Great Video Thanks !
Stay safe
Stu xx
Thanks for watching, hope you’re having a great weekend. James

Thanks Nigel, yes we are starting the 2 rebuilds
Cool video, I think showing the two different types of build is a great idea 👍 MGB
Thanks mate, yes I think so.. I'll start them soon I think
I would love to see you build the standard and race engines for the MGB.
Yeah I think it will be a good video.. maybe a bit long?
Longer the better, and please keep them on carburettor’s.
@youngmuttley ok will do
MGB .
Great to see a true craftsman at work. So thorough and with attention to detail.
Thank you

Thanks for viewing and the kind comments
MGB and XFlow :) Great Work James, It always amazes me how many different pieces of equipment is required in a engine shop like yours.
Thank you.. I'm addicted to machines lol.. like to try and do it all myself
Gran maestro, gracias por compartir tanto conocimiento sobre este magnífico MG B. Video apasionante, fuerte abrazo desde Madrid
Thank you very much for watching. Big hug back from the uk
Great idea for the two engines. One fairly standard and the other fully tuned. Nice to see your customer had done this build justice with the finishing and refit. Looks smart 👌🏼

Thanks cuz x
Brilliant video looking forward to the 2 MGB builds.
Thanks Peter.. yes we started planning it today
Great job as always James. MGB 👍
Thanks mate .
MGB. Great work james and yes once you have time and sorted the dyno out it would make great idea to show the difference between a standard build and one of your full race builds 👌👍
Thanks Lee, yeah I think it would be good
Top class work as usual👍 customer MST be well happy with the attention to detail during building
Thank you, I hope so.
It's a vocation for you, rather than just a job!
Thanks Kevin
Awesome work! I miss my MGB. It was such a fun car to drive. Keep up the great restorations!
Thanks John.. They're a good car, will do
Definitely be great to do both engines and show the difference
Yes that's what I think mate
Love to see you do the two MGB engines - thanks for the video!
Thanks Dave, yes we will drag them out and start to film
MGB. I am not trained in metal work or mechanical engineering so that was very interesting to me. Thanks for a truly fascinating and educational video.👍
Thanks Roy, you're welcome
MGB. Very interested to see a mild cam non ported (real world ) build like the one I am starting soon. Thank you for so much detailed information.
Thanks Ian, we are doing 1 std with mild cam and 1 race engine very soon back to back

Great work.
Thank you
MGB
Great to see care and attention with your work 👍
Thanks George
Mgb. Like very much the idea of building then dynoing the two b engines. Cheers
Yes I think we are going forward with the idea
Great idea with your 2 mgb engines.
Love to see that. 100%.
Yes we are definitely going to start them soon
Curious if you’ve had experience with the MSX crossflow head. I’d like to disprove the naysayers that this head can make power and be reliable.
MGB.. Brilliant idea.. Another thing we would like to know is the typical costs involved for clients to have MGB or Jaguar Mk2 engines rebuilt ..GN
Thank you.. ok when I film it I will try and include costs
Yes please, I would love to see the video and the results.
Thanks Paul.
Excellent MG B video!
I think for thise 2 engines, one completely standard with new parts, the other all out race engine, just to show the difference in what is done, and the difference in power
Thanks mate.. yes I agree.. might put a mild road cam in it just to make it more saleable.. or even raffle it.
Yeah, my initial thoughts would be to show how much a standard engine can be improved on, but you're right, better can makes it more interesting to a buyer. Will be good to see in any case
@blakeperkins8717 yes mate.. I'll get on that.
M G engine development would be interesting see to watch👍
Thank you.. it's going to happen
MGB - very interesting video
Thank you
MGB shootout YES! 😍
Thanks mate.. 👍👍
Amazing how much machinery you need to do a first class engineer rebuild plus the cost and of course the knowledge you have to do it ,hats off to you .great video
Thank you, you definitely need some machinery.. forever looking at them
Thumbs up, subscribed, and MGB!
I would love to see the two engine comparison you talked about at the end.
Thank you.. yes I will get that started
James, I really enjoy your videos (my wife thinks I'm a complete anorak) the precision you attain is far beyond what I imagined was necessary it's brilliant. I'll be talking to Will at Beech Hill soon about my car.
Thanks David, we love what we do... Will is a top fella.
Always find your videos interesting, must be a great job to have. Mind you, you have amassed a lot of great equipment as well.

Hi Rob. Yes both are 5 bearing.. I'll see if I can get a crossflow heads and back to back, I've now ordered bits for the more modified one..
MGB Go for it.
Thank you
MGB Love to see
Thank you

Kit from down under
Hi Kit, I'll email you the details.. can you email me a reminder
MGB 👍🏻
Thank you
MGB
I’m late to the MGB, bought my fist a couple of years ago.
It's a great car.. are you happy with it?
why don't you use the serdi to cut the inserts bore?
The serdi came with some other machines we bought, we are gathering tooling for it. But will probably sell it to be honest we have 2 good seats cutters
Is it really necessary to balance these small non performance engines, does it make a noticeable difference?
Yes on some where they are a long way out of balance
Just find this interesting, but why are the rods and piston heads not balanced before they are boxed and dispatched.
Thank you. Most pistons need a little.. the rods are old and always need work
The MGB engine in the last few frames won't last long without a proper air filter. Ask me how I know. :(
I'm sure he will fit some before running it. How do you know?
MGB - definately a fuel injected version
Thank you.. yes might try it
MGB. When you have to take 10 thou off the head to true it up , what’s the effect on the compression ratio and is any compensation required?
Thank you... 0.010" on a std engine won't need any compensation.. depending on the bore and stroke etc will depend on what difference it makes..
Mgb
Thanks Kevin
MGB
Thanks mate
Cock on vid mate. Keep it going.

@stevenbrown8857 thank you.. I'm sure if you needed too you could get bits done.
@graceenginedevelopments nah my mate tried to teach me, i dropped the new oil filter through the engine into the bucket of old oil 😂 I've just always enjoyed watching a professional. Whether glass blowing, engineering or whatever
