Thanks for slow and clear Nederlandse
There is nothing more offensive to Christians than to hear Our Lord's name used as an angry exclamation. It's a form of blasphemy.....a thoughtless, empty, profane "prayer" for help. You are very keen to distance yourself from people who use injurious words about gays and lesbians but your sensibilities don't extend to those of deep Christian faith. This faith is very much an essential part of who we are...just as much as, their sexuality is for minorities. I don't know if it is your deliberate aim to offend, or if you advocate the misuse of Our Saviour's name out of ignorance. I do know you would never dream of insulting Islam's prophet in such a way....not least because the consequences could be deadly. Having said my piece,I pray God may lead you to a better understanding of Christianity and one which will lead you to show more respect in the future.

My boyfriend has been trying to teach me how to make this sound for months and I finally got it!! Thank you so much!
Ik hope dat er elke week een nieuw podcact heeft. Het is te gek~
In German I think nonbinary people just use sie because it's so versatile. Ze seems to be pronounced the same & in English ze is used as a neopronoun, so that's even more enby friendly.
@@shadowxthevampiressofficial It think that works in German because Sie means she as well as the formal you. But in Dutch, it's too difficult to distinguish she and they. I've been planning to make a video about this forever, so I hope that'll happen soon!

Btw, the use of uvular vs alveolar /r/ is very much bound to the speaker’s dialect. Eastern and southern dialects generally use the uvular variant, the northern dialects al ost exclusively use the alveolar variant. The ‘randstad’ (west) uses both. In ‘het gooi’, somewhere southeast of Amsterdam, people actually do pronounce the /r/ more like an American…
Linguists generally agree that the alveolar trilled (front) /r/ is the original form in north-western european languages. The uvular variant most likely emerged in France in the 15th or 16th century, maybe under the influence of a Celtic substrate in some regions. The spread of the uvular variant is a feature of a “Sprachbund” of the languages on nw-europe. Note that the uvular /r/ is quite rare amongst the world’s languages.
hi, i always thought you do not speak the n in the jongen
I'd found it funny when some English tourists said 'au' when I tried get them to pronounce 'ui' before telling me they were the exact same, but it makes so much sense when you distinguished between the Dutch and English 'u'. The two clearly end with different vowels to me, but it makes sense that English ears aren't trained to separate them both.
Bedankt 🎉

The Dutch seem to pronounce V and F with both lips, while many English speakers pronounce them with just the lower lip against the upper teeth

Great video! Do you have a podcast or something similar where I could find similar content in Dutch? I'm proud of myself because I managed to understand a lot of what guys said over the video.
@@gabrieltavares9566 i have a podcast called "langzaam Nederlands", which is currently for B1 level, but I do plan on making them for lower levels in the future
So dutch pronunciation is actually easier than grammer like it is so easy to make mistakes in a sentence for example with De and Het words there is no real way of knowing if a word is a De or Het word only wordbooks help .
True, although it's not the biggest deal if you mix up de and het. When you pronounce a word incorrectly, it's much harder for Dutch people to make out what you're saying
@CatsDutchClasses Yea, you're right, but i also know that some words that the dutch use are from other languages
@CatsDutchClasses I loved to watch the video, by the way, cause it reminds me of my teacher

Is [ʋ] a fricative? why you said in Dutch v you feel the lips vibrate?
It doesn't have to be, but most of my students don't pronounce the v strongly enough, so this is a good tip to remind them
@@CatsDutchClasses I just learned that, Dutch [ʋ] is not the sound of the letter V, but the sound of letter W. and some Dutch w in words is pronounced just like English w, while others is pronounced as [ʋ]. Dutch V always is pronounced as [v] (it is a fricative, different from [ʋ]) . I also found that in a lazy dictionary it always writes [ʋ] as [w]. Do you think Dutch w only has one sound? Here I give some words: wij [ʋɛɪ̯], wereld [ˈʋɪː.rɔɫt] , weer [ʋɪːr]. Do you think their [ʋ] sound is just like English [w] sound?
Interesting content, annoying teacher.

To your last point about talking Dutch with Dutch people. Yes, it's frustrating. Everytime I wrote in Dutch they tended to answered in German. This was easier when I was speaking and they didn't know I'm German. Ironically they tended to ask me if I was Belgian due to my accent. It seems like having a Southwestern German accent in Dutch seems to sound like a Flemish accent to them. However Belgian people always heard I wasn't Flemish. :-) However I didn't talk Dutch in the last years so I forgot a lot of words and begin to make German words sound Dutch (false-friending). Unfortunately.
Haha yes, unfortunately Dutch people can't even imagine why you would want to learn their language, so they make the decision for you 😂 the one piece of advice I have is to keep insisting and be very direct with them, or just find new friends 🙃
Always use at least 2 different sources when learning a language (unlike me, who is lazy). Helps wonders in connecting and remembering when your brain needs a language in more than one context.
I just started to learn Dutch and this sound was always confusing to me. Thank you so much for teaching step by step on how to pronounce it! It is so clear now that you explain it this way🙌
Thank you so much for your excellent explaination! I am using the French r but found it esasily confused with the "g" in pronunciation. Now I have a better idea on how to pronunce them.
