This country is worse than what this lady said
I lived in this country for two years
      Two-faced and insidious people
They gossip behind your back, which is part of the Dutch culture
When you mention their behavior to a Dutch person, they scatching your face like a cat imprisoned in a room
But people are very timid and cowardly if they understand that you are a strong and strong person

Is the Netherlands really the worst country in Europe?

Dutch is a difficult language. Certainly for Spanish speakers, which she is. I do not know how it is for English speakers. I was born in the Netherlands and lived near the German border, it was easier for me to learn German than Dutch, because of the pronunciation of the Dutch language. In my first job, I had to practice a lot before I could say 'Goedemorgen' properly pronounced.
But, you are right. It is not the worst, but also not the best country to live in. It is all about what you will want and what you will like and what kind of skills you have to offer. My son works in IT, and he never has to speak Dutch at all. In his work he only speaks English, his friends are international and also speak English. For people with less money, Amsterdam is a beautiful region and if you do not live in the center everything is a lot cheaper. The Netherlands are not icy in the winter, the climate is cool in the summer and not so cold in the winter. However, it can be hot sometimes in the summer, especially without an air condition. Housing is difficult to find, especially affordable housing can be a problem. For people who want to move to the Netherlands, make sure you have a good and affordable place to live, before you travel.

Hello Cat. I arrived today in tour channel and it´s just fantastic. But I got to tell you I disagree with you in the 4:27 time. You are very atractive, charming and sophisticated lady. Sorry, I got to tell...Hail from Brazil...

I don't hate or have anything negative about the Netherlands but I rather be realistic and honest about the reality of our world.

The Netherland is not the worst country from Europe but the Netherlands is way to far for being the best country if number 1 is the best and number 50 is the worst I will rank the Netherlands on number 39

Thanks for the video, I loved it. As someone that is moving to the Netherlands soon, I'd be pretty interesting if you made a video about why you moved to Indonesia and the negative points of the country. You seem to have some great points about this topic!

1.- Your videos are interesting, fun to watch and very useful. There's no need to pressure yourself to upload videos regulary, in my opinion. People will still enjoy the amount of videos that you can upload.
2.- That lady's opinions were not objective at all. It was just a combination of her personal tastes and experiences, and terrible traveling skills. She found out that Amsterdam is expensive? Really? Do some reserch before traveling!
I can also go to Paris, get into a restaurant just to pay 35Eu for a salad, run into a drunk person, and say that France is the worst country in the World.
3.- All the Dutch people I've met so far were very friendly and not racists at all! But I'm actually concerned about the "finding a job in the Netherlands" part, because I don't have a high qualified professional degree valid in Europe.

The reason all this negative reaction happens to your country is because you think The Netherlands is the best country in the world which is not and will never be the best country.
Also you want to think that The Netherlands is better than the USA and you Dutch people are so wrong living in a confused fantasy that does not exist.
The Netherlands will never be better than the United States of America. Miami is 10,000 bigger than The Netherlands so tell me how will the Netherlands become better than the USA? Explain to me with logic and sense.

We understand that you want to defend your Dutch language but it's not an easy language to learn for any foreigner so don't say that Dutch language it's easy because it's not an easy language. Dutch people never give the opportunity to the foreigner to learn Dutch because the Dutch pretend that the foreign people speak Dutch perfectly and that doesn't make sense.
I remember I went with a friend from New York in Amsterdam and he live in Holland since 7 years ago and he was learning Dutch we went in a shopping mall and he speak Dutch with the sale lady and she spoke in English with him and I was surprised so he keep speaking Dutch and she keep speaking English and this it doesn't make sense because people will lose interest in speaking Dutch because of the ignorance of Dutch people and this only happen in Holland or the The Netherlands.

Cat's Dutch Classes - Learn Dutch, Don't say Dutch it's an easy language to learn because it's not true. Dutch is the most difficult language to learn of all languages. Also Dutch people are not friendly then this is even worse.

It's not our fault the confusion of your country names. We have known this country as Holland for many years.
So if any foreigner says Holland it's not our fault, you will have to blame your government for this mistake and not the foreigners.

Dutch was difficult for her to learn because she didn't hire you to be her tutor, lol. ^_~
And I think I know what your English teacher was 'Trying' to say, because the Normans brought a lot of Romantic vocabulary into the English language; including the words "Romantic," "Vocabulary" & "Language," hahaha. But as you say though, while a lot of our vocabulary is Romantic and the Normans also changed some of our grammar, the bulk of our grammar is still Germanic and it is still a Germanic language; just with a lot of Norman, Celtic and other frills.

Thanks for the honest video, Cat.
Somewhere in the middle you make the point that many Dutch people pride themselves in not being racist and you emphasized "by their standards". The way I hear your point, you're implying that there exists an objective/absolute standard by which it should be decided if something is racist or not. Or at least that there exists a standard which is clearly superior to that of the Dutch people.
First, do I understand your point correctly? And if so, which is the better standard you are implicitly referring to?

Interesting question, I'm getting a lot of comments about the zwarte pieten thing, but barely any questions.
The point that I was trying to make, is that just because something isn't intended to be racist, doesn't mean that it isn't. And I think we're so used to doing things certain ways, that we don't always realize there are things we do that are (or can be perceived as) racist, homophobic or sexist. In the end, I think it should be less about the accusation of it all, and there should be more focus on how we can treat each other with more kindness and respect and I think that got lost somewhere during the zwarte pieten conversation

    • @lyubenlaskin850
      @lyubenlaskin850 2 роки тому

      Thank you for your reply.
I'm still not convinced the adjective 'racist' is warranted when it comes to zwarte pieten. To say "X is racist" implies a standard by which X was judged to be racist, no? If so, the standard needs to be clearly expressed by whoever is making the statement.
On the other hand, if the claim is "X can be perceived is racist", then we enter some quite subjective territory. Many people can perceive something as racist (or generally take offense by it) without a good reason. If there is a call for action of some kind, such as "end this tradition", the callers need to do better than merely declare their perceptions and feelings, don't they?

About the irony of the 'Nationalism Of Not-Nationalism' in the Netherlands, yes. I've spent the longest time studying racism, homophobia, xenophobia and other bigotries, and I've learned that the biggest problem when trying to point out bigoted things is that people would rather die than believe that they are 'The Bad Guy.'
After all, we tell ourselves that only Evil people can be bigots. So like you say about the elves in black-face in the Netherlands, when someone points out that something we do is racist for example, too many people immediately become defensive and scream about how not racist they are. Dx
Seriously, 99% of the time that we spend trying to talk to people about bigotry is wasted explaining that "No, we're not saying that you're Hitler or that you should be executed for being bigoted. It's just that this one thing you do/say/believe is hurting other people and we're asking you to please stop doing it. ...Yes, I know that people have done it for centuries, but that doesn't change the fact that it's a problem." -_-

    • @CatsDutchClasses

It's very true. And it's not just an issue when it comes to racism, it's the same for sexism, homophobia, ableism and any other type of discrimination 😞

Voor mensen buiten Nederland is dit best een goede omschrijving vind ik. Dat en Santa Claus is ook gebaseerd op Father Christmas(britse variant) dus die uitspraak klopt ook niet helemaal

criticism on what? the reason people react this way is because it isnt real criticism? you want to criticize the dutch because they have canals? because we ride bikes? because its expensive? because we speak dutch?
