    Well that looked yummy. I love the skin. It's part of the experience for me. Have you considered using mites to fight mites. I've had great success doing so. And while I only have a few years of experience, I've noticed when I keep the insects at bay, the rust is way better. I could be making up stuff - I have no idea really. But it's been working. Thanks as always A FIG

      Thank YOU as always, Ed! But you know, I tried neem oil but burned my trees because I did it 3 nights in a row. 🫣 doh! However, there is something to what you are saying because now I have a family of praying mantises and I have zero pest/bug issue!! 🥳 everything is coming back beautifully!

      @@afig3539 Oh my gosh I love them. I buy them anytime they're in stock. I swear they're from another planet. They look so wise. They stare me right in the eye. Some old cultures consider them something special I can't remember. Amazing that you're getting them naturally. Mine keep getting killed off. I'd buy some egg cases. The babies come out. I let loose like a 100. Then some I'll watch some get big - not huge but like an inch or 1.5 I've seen max. Then they disappear. Something is eating them. But the mites I buy are amazing and come in a pre-bagged hanging card so easy to distribute. I get two kinds: one for fig bud mite and one for other nasty things I dont want around. Those with nematodes and you're golden. Won't need chemicals. I hate neem oil. But your comment is hysterical. Now only if youtube would let me LAUGH at something instead of the boring thumbs up.

      These are the mites I buy: Amblyseius swirskii - Spider Mite, Thrips, & Whitefly Control 100 Hanging Sachets (250 Mites Each) Amblyseius andersoni - Generalist, Tolerates High Heats The second one (Andersoni) will go after the fig bud mite. bye bye FMV

      Oh wow!!! I will look into this!! Thanks so much! My mantises have been shedding their shells and growing like crazy! One of them is almost 8 inches long! It’s creepy how many exoskeletons are hanging off my fig leaves. 👻

      @@afig3539 Holy moly what?!?!?!? Can you grab a photo of it? I'd love to see one that big I use naturesgoodguys for more than mites. Anytime I order, I always get ladybugs. Love having them fly around. They make it a better place, and they're incredibly less expensive than you would think. I also get red worms, lacewigs, nematodes pretty regularly. And then I buy things for specific purposes. I was having a fly problem last month. They have this mini wasp that goes after flies. I mean they have something for anything. EXCEPT LEAFHOPPERS. I need to literally kill them by hand. And without gloves because I am not nimble enough with gloves on. So gross. The bigger, the grosser.

      @@afig3539 I'd be seriously sad haha. I guess when it's the first fruit from the tree, this is a real thing. That happened to me on both angelito trees I have. The first wasnt impressive on either, but they have gotten a lot better with each fruit. The outdoor angelito gave me the best fig I've ever eaten to date just the other day. But only once; the next one, while still good, wasnt the same. And I'm waiting for that to happen again consistently. Listening to you fig folks online, I am saying the first year is not the year to judge. But I've seen you sample a good i258 right? I didnt make that up?! I think it was a breba from this year, and you went bananas over how good it was. Did you say the big difference was sun exposure? Or just tree got older? Probably a combination of so many things huh

    • @afig3539
      @afig3539 8 днів тому

      I sure did finally get a Breba and a main crop very recently. The Breba was insane! I LOVE this tree! Definitely, the tastes change from year to year. This is the BEST year so far for me. Not only does indoor vs outdoor make a difference but inground vs pot is also a thing; I don’t care HOW much you fertilize. The taste and sweetness are a direct result of sun + nutrition. Size I believe is affected directly by how much water is available for the tree to uptake WHEN it needs it. It doesn’t matter how much you water it, if it is not drinking time you get small figs. As soon as I wrapped my pebbles around the base of my trees (I water and it pools around their base); the size of my figs was IMMEDIATELY affected - taste incredible and became much larger!! The learning process is the coolest thing about this hobby. 😄

    • @edslim718
      @edslim718 8 днів тому

      @@afig3539 such a great informative comment ty ty ty. Funny you said that about the drinking WHEN it wants. My indoor angelito was letting water pool up at the bottom in a tarp I have during the day time if I gave it 3/4 gallon. But then at night it drank it up. That amount of water would need a while to dry up in the air, but this thing was literally drink it. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I bet one of those fancy cameras could see flow back to the base of the potter 🤣 my wife doesn’t believe me I’m wondering if artificial light (I’m blasting the indoor tree with a ton of light) can ever create the same level of sweetness as natural sunlight? The figs taste good. My wife and I shared two of them today and she liked them a lot. I did too, but all I kept thinking was the one outside taste better - lol! I’m hoping the one inside starts catching up. Especially because I just bought two figs preto to do this same experiment. Ohhh I literally just finished transplanting the socorro black you recommended. It came the other day. And 7 other trees 🤦 im not right in the head. There is nowhere to put them. They’re going to get like 2 hours of sun. I HAVE TO STOP In my head, I’m doing this (apart from my love for it and them) so one day I can retire somewhere with space and put these in the ground.
