prefect. what i was thinking of doing but was looking at how to do it.
Pls don't use a serrated blade on a wooden board.
Hmm, now I'm intrigued by this fig. Hope I can root the cuttings I got from you. Sounds like a good, tasty fig. Thanks
I’m gonna get this one!
I bought this and Calderona from you.
Sent you an email too. Thanks
One day I will get to taste that variety. They look good and your description sounds yummy. Thanks for sharing
I bought one of these this year. I have yet to taste one. I hear it's good. Being my first year growing figs, hopefully next year I will finally get to taste a bunch of these. I'm excited.
You should take some organza bags and leave them in greenhouse so you have them easily available. You have everything looking so good there. Thanks for the FigBid link.
It is a very pretty fig. Looks good inside. Wow, nice colors. Shame it doesn't grow any better.
Well, we won’t give up JUST yet. 😋
Are you listed on figbid as A Fig?
I purchased one at the end of this year. Hopefully if I can get it through the winter I’ll be able to try one next year. I’ve heard it was a good one. Thanks.
This was my first year growing figs. This is a variety on my wishlist. Hopefully it gets really good for you.
From your lips to God’s ear! 😊
Very pretty but my handwriting is not that good. 😂
R u selling any of cuttings? Golden rainbow n white Madeira #1 ????
Yes! 😊. I have them on FigBid
Which state ?r u in?
Very nice
I do love your descriptions!
Heck yeah A Fig. Looks truly amazing. Such a great collection. Rock on
You know I am looking into moving there. With all the craziness in the world and here in the US, this looks like a real nice island to be living on. I’ll bring all my figs
🤣
Just got this from traveling gardener too. Huge air layer. Can’t wait for next year
Really enjoyed my adores dark this year. I noticed the flavor profile to get more complex as time went on. First year tree in 7 gal pot and close to 60 figs. Almost all were small like that. Can’t wait for next year
LOL you really made me laugh out loud. I think that too about when people say that didn’t taste good. The only figs I’ve had that don’t taste good, you know they aren’t going to taste good because of some specific condition (they got beat up somehow). I really think the food you give them makes a huge difference. I actually proved it on my indoor angelito. I gave it nothing for three weeks and the taste changed drastically. Don’t get me wrong it was still good but the brix reading was 23-26. Which is still good don’t get me wrong. Re-introduce some love, and bam back into the 30s on the brix reader. I had one close to 40 brix. It was insane. Too sweet is a thing I think. Well thank goodness I have this one already. because after that description, I’d have to get it lol. Got it late this year. But huge from traveling gardener. Will be a beast next year.
Oh yeah. Can’t wait for this. I have two. I was going to do another indoor outdoor experiment with this, but they both barely grew this year. Purchased them super late. Glad I bought two though because seems to be one of the slow ones huh
Sorry got interrupted by kids and wife. Yeah I think this one is in my short list. Not the same reaction you had last time. But that reaction is implanted in my mind. And I’ve thought about this variety since.
🤭 It IS awesome. But honestly, get a Stella type. I’m incredibly impressed…mind blowing experience if you are liking the strawberry jamminess experience. It is BIGGER AND JELLIER!!
@ Stella type? I have to go look it up
Okay I just started this video. I’m calling it out now: I have a feeling you’re going to LOVE it (like I’ve seen you already do on this variety), but I cannot add to my collection. It’s out of control here. #nomorefigs But I think I really want this one. Not sure. Okay let’s see
Hey A Fig - so happy I found you on fig bid. This is me yesterday: okay one more variety where is clbc. Let’s search fig bid. Oh geez 17 listings. How will I ever know who to get this from. Oh wait what: is that A Fig!?!?!? Bam! You made my life easy. Ty for that. Really enjoyed this video. LOVE how your mom is dropping knowledge. Reminds me of my mom and family with the small accent and tons of fig knowledge. They have like 100s of scenarios they can share. Super cool and so valuable. I had an Irene’s black Greek that was like that BM you just had. It was my first (and only so far) one, and it looked incredible. Just like that with red liquid on the inside. And when I ate it, it was very good but yes little watery. Can’t wait for more. It’s my second indoor experiment. I think you’ll appreciate my first indoor experiment update on angelito: it’s out of control incredible. It’s in a 10 gal potter and the other day I counter 157 figs on it. I’ve eaten about 30 and it is not slowing down. It’s just a super prolific tree. And responds extremely well to what I give it. I am really learning this tree incredibly well. I know when to give it some of this and some of that. It’s provided me what I feel is like 5 years of experience in one season. It has tertiary branches already. It’s a first year cutting. And I have not cut one branch anywhere. 7 or 8 scaffolds and just put out a new main branch. Literally every single node has figs. Holla
I love this endorsement!! 🤣 thank you very very much!! You are right, the parents always have stories and is one of my biggest influences for investing in this hobby. To bring those memories back to them and in turn back to us. I wish I could capture all of their fondest memories for us to enjoy as the world around us changes not always for the better.
what's the white ash on leaves?
It’s diatomaceous earth 😊
Nice to get feedback from someone who enjoys figs that aren’t complex berry. Thanks for sharing.
It’s absolutely my pleasure! 😁
Put a ring of vaseline around rhe trunk to stop rolly pollos crawling up to the figs.
Oh, absolutely no. I did that before and it destroyed the trunk of my fig tree.
@@afig3539 strange... I haven't had that problem and got to eat my figs without damage. I wonder what the difference was.
Perhaps next time to be cautious, I'll apply a tree wrap around the trunk and get some tanglefoot to treat the wrap instead of the trunk. I better go check my tree again. I was stopping ants from climbing the trunk and going inside my yellow long neck fig and also used it to stop ants from carrying mealy bugs from one plant to another. Sorry if I gave you bad advice.
@@bosquebear1 no worries! I did a video showing what happened to my trunk. But it’s good to try and learn lessons!
Beautiful greenhouse. I found a link to this channel on figbid, but I have since realized there's no way of navigating back to your store. Would you consider putting a link in the description going forward? 🐒
Great idea, Robert, will do!
Which greenhouse is that
It is the Royal Victorian by Exaco. I ordered it through Costco online! Incredible.
Do you have a yellow long neck to compare? They say golden rainbow is very similar, so curious to get your take.
Ah nevermind, I commented too soon. You did mention your YLN comparison.
🤭
Do you sell cuttings of the Madeira Island Black?
I definitely will be in another month. It’s still loaded with figs! 😍
@ I’ll be purchasing when you do! I’m about to place an order with you now for some Smith and CLBC cuttings!
@thevagrowinggardener1898 just got it! 🙏 thank you!
@ thank YOU!!! 🙏
What’s your favorite fig?
I live in the Chicago suburbs. This year is my first trying to grow figs and very excited. This greenhouse looks awesome. Hopefully one day I can build one. Any link to where you would recommend buy one like this. Trying to root Olympian and Sweet Diana in sand. Any tips will be appreciated. I am looking for Italian 258, colcol de dame blanc and black madeira cutting or tree to buy. Do you sell locally? 😊
Hi there! I bought my greenhouse from Costco online. I’m really excited for you! I didn’t have too much luck rooting in sand. 🙁 I do sell locally and I REALLY recommend Atreano (green outside/ red inside) and Italian Honey (yellow outside/ white inside) for here if you like the light figs. I have trees of both of these varieties for sale. If you are interested just email me (a-fig@att.net) I love these because they are very early and very productive!! The Italian honey tree I have for sale is already 4 years old and will be amazing this summer. The Atreano - I have ages 1-4 years and great pricing.
❤
You have a praying mantis in with your figs. Back behind the CLBC.
Yeah, they are so cool! 😎
What a great location
Thank you! Bet you have a great eye for that Dave!
Is it as good as the Smith?
It was! So similar!
Invest in some organza bags!
Bro! So right! I can’t believe I forgot about my organza bags. 😂
@ them rolly pollys cant get through them organza bags! Save the figs!!
Which state do you live in?
Is there reason you can't plant fig in ground?
I am in Illinois. Too cold in winter for the trees to survive in ground. 🙁. But I am trying some tricks! We will see!
Are you monitoring the CO2 levels in the greenhouse? is there a good air ventilation from outside in? Hope this is not too many questions😊
You are so funny with all your questions! 😂🤣 Ok…I am not monitoring CO2. I have a louvre window that is slightly open. Plus, pretty sure the trees regulate the air around them to suit themselves. Much better than we can.
@@afig3539 the reason I asked that many trees will deplete the CO2 levels very rapidly without sufficient ventilation or CO2 supplementation.
And what is the height of your greenhouse I'm very curious?
9ft in the middle. 10’Lx20’Wx9’H
May I ask how many varieties you're growing currently? Please and thank you
I have over 90 varieties! 🤯 only because UA-cam videos make you want to them all!!! Not my fault.
@@afig3539 I have a very short growing season here in Toronto and only a few varieties ripen in time. Nevertheless I've been getting some great success over the years! Sorry for all the questions I'm a bit of a fig monster 😂
@@afig3539 I know the feeling sometimes it's nice to get your mind off all the troubles in the world and just watch fig growers boasting of the new varieties on UA-cam hehe❤️
Politics is what drove me to watch fig videos! Life & growth & God vs destruction, evil, and lies. Best decision ever
@@afig3539 Amen!
I could never get Black Madeira to root and survive so I got a Figo Preto instead lol
That is me with the Genovese Nero! 😩
Gosh they look so good. Can’t wait!!! I might bring my BM inside so they can ripen the fruit they just started putting. 3 first year trees. I might have to bring my MIB inside too after these last few videos A FIG!!!! It’ll be a jungle in here.
Ok. So I missed out on your black Tuscan cuttings. I wanted that and white Madeira #1. You offered to throw Spadafora Dark in for free. If I take a Hollier, and RDB? Would the offer still stand? Oh they are in my cart on figbid already.
Absolutely, John. I can cut 1 more cutting off my Black Tuscan if you want. I can try to adjust your invoice when I get it.
@ you are the best. I’ve got a small UA-cam channel. I hope you don’t mind if I mention you in an upcoming post.
@ oh. I’m Mrjohnisaac52 on figbid. It’ll be an order for wm#1, and RDB, plus the BT. Everyone needs Ronde de Bordeaux lol.
I don’t mind at all! 😊
@ you might have to invoice me for the black Tuscan. I think I messed up.
3rd year tree? nah it's done. You have more patience than most of us, It'd get no mercy from me if it's still producing meh fruit after 3 years.
Got one that is almost a year old. It is still loaded with fruit. I managed to try one but I think it was too early. Beautiful tree
Spectacular!
wow 37*F, we're still hitting 81*F today. Those CLBCs sure do look perfect. I knew they were a top fig but WOW.
Lovely fig
