In 1980 I travelled to Yelta on a sleeper train, that is, a works train that was discharging sleepers. The station building at Merbein was being demolished. FYI, I recall it resembled Red Cliffs a typical weatherboard VR station. I read that Mildura had a suburban service with trains running from Merbein to Red Cliffs. It was withdrawn due to low patronage. Very similar to the Townsville rail motor service to Bowen.

Excellent video my friends 😊
@@MarcelosalivaTRENESArg thank you. 😀 Very happy to hear you enjoyed the video 👍 😀
Love this video! It’s so cool seeing the double track at South Geelong.
@@CSI_Fan South Geelong certainly looks different now 👍😀
awesome video
@@christopher-2000 thank you. Glad you enjoyed the ride 👍 😀
As someone who’s local to the area it’s awesome to see the view of this bit of line as it’s something people don’t get to experience often
It is great to see a heritage train run out there so people can experience it. Glad you enjoyed it 👍 😀
Why didn’t they build south Geelong and Marshall longer for the 9 car trains? Aren’t they gonna run the whole way to waurn ponds eventually or is it only to Wyndham vale?
@@ghostfiregamings6878 I'm not sure what the long term plan is for 9 cars. At the moment it is just Wyndham Vale. I guess time will tell if they are to run any further. 👍😀
Golly! They have really "Gold Platted" those double tracked bits and the new stations. You can really see where the money went, although I'm not sure that is the best use of limited passenger rail infrastructure funds?
The standards required now are much more than the old days. There are a lot more considerations nowadays in this era of safety for everyone. 👍😀
When you're infrastructure get updated every 60-80 years, I think you deserve gold plated. When was the last time new track was laid down on this side of Geelong?
Duplicated track begins here 2:28

Have yet to go as far as Waurn Ponds by train, that might be fun. Though I still would also like to take the Bellarine Tourist Railway at some point.
@@georgeheilman4243 both ideas sound like a great idea. 👍😀
6:02 Q: Why did the Kangaroo cross the bridge? A: It didn't.
Why are regional trains different to suburban lines?🤔
Different company, longer trips, more baggage on the train.... many reasons. 👍😀
@@driver667 🤔What does luggage have to do with the direction of travel?
@@brianmcgill7314 ahh, you are referring to the side they travel on... that wasn't clear in your question. The difference isn't because it's regional or suburban. It just depends on what operational factors they were wanting in that location. The Werribee line is bidirectional although they don't use reverse running all that much these days. Then there is the bidirectional centre line on the Frankston and out to Box Hill. It's just most of the suburban system was built a long time ago with up and down lines and later upgrades allowed for bidirectional in places. 👍😀
Another awesome video and you going past my house in Grovedale

@@yargn3594 Thank you. Very happy you enjoyed the video. 👍😀
The Geelong area is far more expansive than I thought.😊👍
Second biggest city in victoria. 👍😀
Is it usual for these trains to run on the right hand side?
Maybe there is an American driver today.😆
@@neilgerace355 With the bidirectional track, the train Can run on either side. It just depends on the traffic of the day. 👍😀
thanks for the ride :) I have a question regarding the use of vlocitys on the Warrnambool line will they split from a 6 car at warn ponds then run down to Warrnambool as a 3 car? would act similar to Ararat
@@Trainspottervic I'm not sure yet what they plan to do. It will be interesting to see what happens. I'm sure we will know soon. 👍😀

Great looking at the line that I worked on initially as a Station Assistant in 1961 and latterly as a Signal Assistant at Seaford through to 1965 after which time went into the Australian Army, and thereafter from 1967 though. Following my military service, I went back to the Victorian Railways as a Station Assistant at Cheltenham, and soon thereafter re-qualified in my Safe Working Certificates, and went out as a Signal Assistant at McKinnon Railway Station in 1968. In the latter part of 1968, I qualified as an Assistant Station Master Class 5 and was posted to Darnum. After an disagreement with Stewie Rae the District Superintendent, I resigned and joined the Regular Army for 10 years and then went on to qualify as a Lawyer. Just one point I would like to raise. Why is there no indication of the station names between Patterson and Cheltenham??? The first indication of the station names after Patterson is *MENTONE!*
I just had a look, Moorabbin, Highett, Southland and Cheltenham are all labelled fine. That's an interesting career life that you have experienced. Plenty of great stories along the way I would guess. 👍😀
Twas about 50 years ago when I was last in Mildura. (I was 10 at the time) Must visit again. Preferably when one of these tourist trains is running.🤩
It was a sight that had a big number of locals and others out to watch it go through town. 👍😀
If was False Alarm fault by used common happens in the past, how long was between time for reset?
The train was stopped for a few minutes before it was up and running again. 👍😀
Now, at the end of this video, let's not be throwing any *Tempy* tantrums! LOL😁

Great first time saw what Merbein to Mildura track look like and very surpised siding yard tracks stripped out in Mildura Station thats means must use Double-Cab locomotives as can't switch ending of wagons or carriage stock as go nearest siding loops.

What is the operational speed limit on this track?
@@juliacarter5321 this track is a freight only line with a speed of 40kph. 👍😀
19:48 the worst crossing in all of Mildura. Passive, and for the way that car that stopped was heading, has awful sighting distances looking both ways. Less than 50 metres. Amazed accidents don’t happen more often. Thankfully the ones that do are at low speed and are low impact.
8th St crossing. Worked at the BP depot which was just to the left over the crossing. The rails can be seen on the left that gave access for petrol tank cars and GY trucks for oil drums.
How beautiful are those sunrise views! Very lucky you are to experience that and thanks for bringing it to us 🙂
@@vickstar1992 you're welcome. I am very happy you enjoyed the views. 👍😀

I am assuming this was a 3 car Vlocity set. Interesting the stop at Clayton but no stop at Oakleigh. I guess the line is reaching capacity with all the medium warning signals - another train a couple of sections ahead. Thank you for taking us along for the ride.
