Work Car Ute & Canopy Makeover - Should Have Done This Years Ago!
G'day folks,
I finally got around to doing something I've thought about often, converting my work car from a tub ute to a tray ute. In the process I've gained a lot more space and more importantly, easier access for these old bones of mine. I'm very happy with the result.
Stay well folks,
Mark.

Goodbye And Happy Trails Gypsy Wagon

G'day folks. Well as the title and thumbnail suggests, I've sold the Gypsy Wagon. A desire to re-focus 2024 and beyond on my ultimate goal of acquiring my own parcel of land, involved re-couping my costs of the wagon build and re-establishing work and income after a long time away from it. Sad to see it go, but at the same time happy to be moving forward on the goal. As always folks, stay well ...

How it started to how it ended. A time lapse of my Australian, traditionally inspired, Gypsy Wagon build. With a basic, overall, wide vision in my head, I just got to work making it up as I went along, using secondhand and new materials/products and challenging my imagination to bring it all together. Imagination and determination is the key folks. Using those two traits, you can do anything yo...

G'day folks! Well after a long, long time between videos, with all manner of roadblocks thrown up in front of me, from financial to muscle injury, nerve impingement (and the subsequent and ongoing treatment recovery), and totally inconsistent weather, I can finally upload the final Gypsy Wagon video! Watersnake Trolling Motor With PWM On My Kayak

G'day folks. I felt the need for speed...and because I can sometimes be a lazy bugger...I invested in a Watersnake trolling motor for my kayak, along with a Pulse Width Modulator and 50Amp Lithium battery. However, being that my kayak doesn't have a provision for mounting a motor at the rear, which was my preferred placement for it, I had to get a bit creative in making it all work. But I do ha...

G'day folks! It's been a long time between videos...sorry about that. Plenty of hold ups, some lengthy decision making processes and just general rigours of life dictating their terms. I have ticked off a lot of jobs on the wagon though and well, I think I'm close, very close to the end. Thanks for sticking around and as always, stay well. Cheers, Mark.

Hello folks, a bit of a late start to 2023 but I'm back on the wagon! ..the Gypsy Wagon that is. Major jobs, little jobs, it all adds up to inching closer to the end. Hello to new subscribers, hope you enjoy the ride. Patches of time may pass between uploads, but stick with me, we'll get to the end eventually. Stay well all, Mark.

There is an end in sight but not yet, not yet. We're getting into what seems to be a thousand and one jobs now, little and big. The detail is only going to increase from this point forward. I finally solve and finish my hidden rain gutters, refashion a vanity/kitchen cabinet and sink, and settle on (I hope) my wood heating choice. Stay well folks! Mark.

    You missed one thing, the two horses needed to support the weight. Amazing work , for me the question of horses power is first. Gypsy wagons are such more light.

    • @RedPathRambler
      @RedPathRambler День тому

      Thanks for watching. 🙂 Didn't have the horses on hand unfortunately. The under carriage and platform I started with is an original Melbourne Brick Cart, very heavy duty. So when loaded, it would have been pulled by a team of horses, probably 4 or more. Hence, I only built a traditionally inspired Gypsy Wagon, not a real one.

    My grandfather was a cartwright/wheelwright. In assembling the chassis, it's important to have the axels the right way 'round because each side is threaded differently. That ensures that the forward movement of the caravan will keep the wheel nuts tight. Otherwise, the nuts loosen, and off come the wheels. (There were even automobile manufacturers who perpetuated this practice for fastening tire rims to axels.)

    • @RedPathRambler
      @RedPathRambler 13 днів тому

      I admire the old trades, or at least the surviving old trades. I think my wheels were a bit different in that they slid on the axle and then a heavy duty pin dropped into a space preventing them from working their way off. So, no actual wheel nuts on them.

    It's a good looking van, from a distance, but there's some mighty strange choices in this build, materials, techniques, design. Yeah, making it up is about right. And a lack of many traditional skills normally used in a real gypsy caravan. And it's also the style of van mostly used by showmen not gypsies. I thought we were going to see a horse pulling it was well. I'm not surprised you moved it with a VW bus, that thing must weight a ton! Several tons!

    • @RedPathRambler
      @RedPathRambler 21 день тому

      Thanks for watching Colin. Good thing I never claimed to be building a real gypsy caravan. I had a guy in the know come out to identify exactly what kind of cart I had. An original Melbourne brick cart apparently. A 2 ton carriage with a capacity to carry 4 ton. A single horse never pulled this cart. So I was fakin' it from the get go. 🙂..as explained in one of the episodes of the build series. Although I didn't get a chance to weigh the finished product, I estimate I added somewhere between half a ton to a ton of weight. The Volksy pulled it easily...I didn't have a team of horses available unfortunately.

    • @colinmcmb
      @colinmcmb 17 днів тому

      @@RedPathRambler You took that well! Unfortunately I am a bit of a pendant when it comes to the gypsy caravan, it's history and the crafts and materials used to build one, as well as the travelling life of the gypsies of the era which dictated their design. Your method of building certainly produces an attractive result which will be a pleasant place to spend time relaxing. And I shouldn't criticise a man who makes a thing. I would just like to urge people to look at how these things were made in their heyday.

    • @RedPathRambler
      @RedPathRambler 17 днів тому

      @colinmcmb Well, I took one look (more than one, a few), at the traditional and thought nope, that's beyond my skill set. Of course that didn't quell my creative streak in embarking on the build. I basically built a modern caravan, hidden under a homage to an old way of life. 🙂

    As a child i read books like the box car children. I always wanted to run away and live in a box car at the edge of the woods. Then pne simmer my aunts came to visit and told stories about the gypsies that pulled their wagons with horses up to their farm and lived there for the summer. My father was 4 - 8 and during those summers he spent most. Off the day ,as soonn as his chores were done. I envied his childhood. Tthe gypsies repaired tools for houses and farms. And gleened the fields. They taught him many things. And my uncles started doing carpentry with them. I LOVE THIS BUILD...

      @marjoriejohnson6535 Yes it's a shame that some elements and methods of lifestyle of times long past don't exist anymore. I guess technically they still do, but so modernised that the 'romanticism ' of those ways is lost. Of course that's not to say life was generally easier in those times, it just wasn't as scrutinised or regulated so much. Try pulling a modern car and caravan up beside a farm now and staying for a few months! There'd be cops, fines etc.!
