My grandparents always planted a vegetable garden, trees and flowers around their property. They showed me how a humble little seed grew into food for our table. It was fascinating to watch bees fly from one flower to the next collecting pollen. Or how birds, squirrels, or chipmunks would steal seeds and drop them at random spots to grow elsewhere.
This fascination still intrigues me to this day. I am pleased that you have stopped by my channel to share in my journey. YouTube Algorithm Friend or Foe? - Vlog - Episode 2 #askkrista #vlog #ytalgorithm #growyourchannel
There are many reasons why people wish to grow their channels and in order to do this, you have to consider UA-cam algorithm as your friend or like a business partner.
The more you succeed, the more UA-cam succeeds in being able to place paid ads on each of your videos.
Join me as I discuss these two questions during episode 2 of #askkrista
1. I'm trying to connect with people and people aren't that interested in what my channel is about. What do you think?
2. Do you think that really small channels like mine, should do livestreams?
I look forward to hearing your thoughts, ideas and experiences in the comment section below, about this weeks two questions. Let's all be kind and respectful to one another.
Thank you for sending in these two questions for this week's episode. I look forward to answering more of your questions next week. Happy to see your channel grow so fast!!! 🪴
wow, your garden is very impressive. I love all those peppers that is amazing. That zucchini was massive.3 degrees is definitely getting cool. Not far off from frost.
Hi Krista. Good question. I can’t speak to any other methods than what I’ve tried and still doing. I keep my peppers in an environment that mimics nature in an ideal climate. My plants have plenty of new growth on them. I use a heater, a fan, and lights on a timer. I’m doing mine this way because I want to continue to produce all year long. I don’t want my plants going dormant. My hydroponic method differs a bit but I’m predominantly relying on my compost medium as the nutrients for the colder months. If I see any leaves or limbs starting to die off or not look good, then I would snip it to not let any diseases or anything infect the rest of the plant. Since peppers are perennials my thing is to just let them continue to grow as they would in the garden in their own. Is you want your plants to be dormant then I would not give them light and fertilizer. Just my non-expert opinion.
Thank you Terrence 🙂Since I am not set up with hydroponics or grow lights at this time, I have decided to let them go dormant and water very sparingly every couple of weeks. You don't have to be an expert to have some knowledge about the matter and I appreciate you taking the time to explain your process.
Thank You for subscribing to my channel. Some Very helpful info in this video. I will be doing those things ❤ God Bless You

For a new channel under 500 subscribers, what is your best advice to gain more subscribers? And also what is your best tip to gain more views from your subscribers. I am also subscribed to you. I have been doing a blog on these questions for 5 episodes myself. . Also, I have seen this vlog becoming increasingly more popular since I began speaking on the topics to succeed on UA-cam. Can you share your most asked question? Best wishes and keep up the good work, Jeanine😊
Hi Krista,do you answer your questions the following week like I do, I'm very excited to hear what you think so I can share it with my Group,it's all such good advice. thanks
Good morning Jeanine 🙂 I am a new subscriber to your channel and haven't had the time to have a look about. Your first Q about best advice to gain more subscribers, I've talked about at length in this video. Is there something more that you are wanting me to elaborate on from this video that I may not have covered? Are these Q's something that you wish me to cover in a future #AskKrista episode? I think I really need you to be more specific in some of your Q's because I can't gauge if you are asking for your own channel or for your blog (which I will have to go take a look at). At a quick glance, it appears that your videos are getting watched based on what YT is showing as views. Also, you are correct about it being a topic that is popular. Thank you for the support and compliments 💕 - Krista -

Hello and welcome. I'm happy your here and thanks so much for your kind words 🥰
Good topic
Thanks Dave 🙂I'm glad you liked the topic.
Wow, Krista, this was so helpful! I had no idea about that customization area. I went over and filled in the key words. This was really wonderful that you made this video to help us out. I so appreciate it! 💖 I do have to say though, about the music, for me it's important to have music to bring in the emotional feelings of what I am showing. I am aware that I need to speak louder in order for my subscribers to hear me. Thanks again, this was awesome!
Morning Barby ❤I'm so happy that you found the information helpful and you were able to fill in that area 👍It's a very key area to letting YT know who to send out the videos to. Music is played for a ton of different reasons and I think that as long as you can clearly be heard, as you mentioned, then you have nothing to worry about. Have an awesome day mf 💕
lovely video
Thank you Nadia 🙂

Found your channel through Hippie Chick's recommendation and look forward to seeing more of your videos in the future. This one was very informative and should be helpful for small channels considering their approach to growth. Also you are very well spoken. My experience is that it is very difficult to speak for an uninterrupted 20 minutes like that without embarassing yourself. Very well done, you clearly have a knack for this. Best wishes to you.
Hello and welcome 🙂I'm glad you found this video informative. Your correct, that it is targeted towards a smaller channel. Thank you for the compliment about speaking but I warn you now that there are times that I have and will be times that I do mess up while speaking 😁but I keep trying to improve. Thanks again for watching, sub'ing and commenting.

Thanks Mattandmouse 🙂I look forward to engaging with you and glad to know that I'm not the only one that began this journey with a phone and tripod 😃
Great video! So, you’re saying we are supposed to put hashtags in the title and at the end of the description? I haven’t been doing that.😢
Good morning Patty. As I mentioned in the video the keyword section needs to be filled out first otherwise the hashtags are really meaningless. Once you've done this, then your hashtags in the title and description become important. I'm glad that you found this video useful my friend 🙂💕
I don't know anything about anything. I've been a creator for 3 years now, almost 1.4K subs. Don't ask me why, I have no clue. I do this just for fun & never thought about "promoting" my channel. I do some shorts to "introduce" my channel to others. And most of videos are well over 100 views, some in the thousands & one over 30K now. Again, don't ask me why??? I seldom do hashtags, I'm really not interested in monetization. It's always been about fun for me. I "like" all my comments & answer many. My content is mostly bluegrass cats with some scenery & yard stuff too. And I don't talk with music, I just play music with my cats without talking. That's just me, my intro says it all. No one has to like me, no one needs to subscribe. But I appreciate all those who are trying for more! I live in a shack, I have no computer or editing capabilities. A friend created my intro for me. But otherwise, I'm happy just being myself in my Virginia mountain shack with the 4 catbillies! Love y'all ❤️!
Good morning 🙂I answered this Q for two people that were interested in growing their channel but of course there are many that don't try to promote the channel and the growth has come anyway. There are so many types of channels doing different things that may require different ideas to achieve this. I love ❤your passion with the 4 catbillies 😻😸😼😽
I certainly am thrilled that my channel is starting to really take off! It's what I love about UA-cam, we can each have our own focuses, yet also share other passions too which are like a sidebar on our channels. For me, my focus is my catbillies, yet I love gardening & nature & scenery also, and have met so many amazing friends just by sharing all the different things I like. Some folks wish to be monetized, some wish to grow their channels kinda purposefully. It's all good! I've been doing this for a few years now, remained stuck at around 20-30 subs for a year, just my best friends. I wasn't hitting the algorithm because all of my earlier background music was copyright, so UA-cam didn't push it. But suddenly the cat community noticed me, & everything took off. Of course I thought about it & figured out a way to put local bluegrass music in my catbilly backgrounds without copyright. BOOM! I can be unique with bluegrass catbillies & get commercials now plus constantly increase my subs. Again, the shorts are for introduction, the long forms are where I get the most traction. I like how newcomers will engage & comment regularly at first & then they settle more into just watching & liking. You know when they periodically come back just cuz they couldn't resist saying something. Y'know... you can lose 3 subs in a week, but gain 10 also in that same week & that means you're growing! Never sweat the simple stuff. Just be YOU. There's a million ways to be successful on UA-cam. But none will make you happy if you're not smiling & it's all work. I smile when I watch your videos. And therein lies the answer! I'm never gonna be what I call "big cat"... but I got one long form with over 30K views & it's still going strong. If I was interested in monetization, I'm over half way there with legit watch hours. Maybe when I retire in a couple years, it could happen & help pay the catbillies expenses. But if not, it's all good! I think you had some very good advice here. But mostly, I like your gardening videos, they're just so natural. Keep it up, you're amazing... Krista... did I spell that right??? Don't forget, I'm just a Southern hillbilly with a few catbillies, hehehe... ❤
@@j-svfc 🙂Thank you for your kind words. Yes, you spelled my name right 💕

Thank you ❤and just like you I also have been learning on the fly. I'm happy to pass along any small bits of knowledge I do have to help others.
This is so cool! I missed the first episode. Listening to you answer these questions is helping me. I like how straight forward you are. I’m similar to the 1st question you answer for 2 people. My name absolutely doesn’t make sense and my videos are very personal to me. This has me realizing that my growth will be SLOW growing. I have to be prepared for this. I complained and was confused however as I go along it makes full sense. I do love how I get so much engagement. I’m a touchy feely kind of gal and it’s fulfilling my heart. I’ve settled my mind and heart finally to realize making money may not be my destiny. I like making personal goals like 1,000 before I invest in better equipment. Thank you for taking the time to share and answer these questions. Btw, I did a lot of music over voice and it didn’t go over well. I love music so I try and use now in a very limited way. I went to a class once and believe it or not the instructor played music softly in the background as they spoke and it seemed quite nice. I think it depends on how people are wired. Well explained. Thank you.
I'm glad you found the info helpful Tracey 🙂Thank you. Some music is not bad in the background, but it is I think, if it drowns out what the speaker is saying, or takes away from it. Everyone is free to do as they please for certain. These were my observations while doing some homework to answer the Q. 💕
@ well done.
The content shared was well-received. It discussed interesting topics and included good questions and answers, which were highly valued. Thank you for sharing
Thank you kindly 🙂
Great video! I am gearing up to kind of make videos talking about the actual content creating side of YT and IG, just sharing my experiences and thoughts, I think it’s great to share what we’ve learned like you have here!
Thank you 🙂Good for you. I wish you every success in your endeavor 👍
Well, that is a good idea to have a playlist like that and i consider it awesome. Thank you for sharing much appreciated.
🙂Thanks so much.
Thanks for sharing, it makes me nervous and makes me wonder how many things I'm doing wrong with my channel.
Your welcome Sherry 💕The few things I mentioned are fairly easy fixes for any channel to go see if they are doing these things. I could say exactly the same thing you just did about my own channel but I honestly think that there are many gardening/homesteading/prepping/cooking/etc/etc channels and growth just gradually happens. Maybe I'm way out in left field on that but that's what I think. I also think you have a great channel ❤
In some part I disagree with the only do one thing on the channel. There are some I watch that are gardening channels it in winter do cooking and other activities. I watch the people not so much the content per se. I ignore algorithms and I don’t pay attention to the comments I get about hey I can help your channel grow. But I just garden and vlogs are secondary to allow connections to other friends that garden. Some great tips Krista hope it helps some people 👍👍, Ali 🌧️🥶🇨🇦
I see what your saying. Perhaps I didn't expand on that area of the video as much as I should have. The channel that asked the Q has two "totally" unrelated things going on in their channel. They know what I meant. The example you gave sort of fits me, as I don't have much going on in the winter but gardeners do crossover into other interests/hobbies, in that they prep meals (cooking) for future use, persevering, hunting, smoking meats, etc. I get what your saying though. Thanks so much for your insights into the discussion 🥰
@ 💕 I’m always cautious about what I say to others about content and I totally appreciate your input it’s an ever changing topic “UA-cam“ conversations 👍
Great tips, Krista! ~ Sandra

UA-cam is a business I been on UA-cam for a decade I been Monetized several times made some decent money once I made $8000 in one month paid my husbands car off at a lower end I would make $100 to $600 per month. I found when the money came UA-cam consumes your time always trying to post more videos to continue the profit then I would get demonetized for breaking rules get re monetized this last time I decided to put videos up to share what I am doing but not looking to get monetized again I don’t want to be UA-cam’s cash cow. UA-cam is not a friend it’s a Business but I enjoy watching and sharing ❤ great topic!
Your 💯right Angel. I did say business partner during the video but by saying friend I was trying to emphasis that if you succeed so do they. Not everyone has the goal of making money and in the case of 1 of the 2 that sent me the Q, their goal is not to make $ it's to bring awareness to a passion that God has placed on their heart. Thanks so much for sharing your insights of being monetized and demonetized and remonetized again and the new direction you are taking now. You are in the lane God wants you in sister 💕🙏
@@AlmostaGreenAcre-zs5eu Amen I left one important thing out once you get popular here comes the trolls 👿 😂
@@angelspodcast1111 🤣Haha...........well now, I beg to differ. I've had a few doggin me for about 6 months. What say you to that? lol
@@AlmostaGreenAcre-zs5eu😂😂😂 but if the monetization comes take the money I would I just know that they control how much they will pay per commercial so they purposely put back hoping the people will just keep putting out more and more content UA-cam Wins one becomes exhausted and less time doing healthy things so have a balance UA-cam is a good side hussle 😂 then a big break up ❤
😂 I love deleting disrespectful comments 😂
Nice video Krista. ❤❤❤

It was delicious. Hope you've been well my friends ❤🙏
@ I’ve been doing some hunting and have gotten behind on watching, but I’ll get caught up soon. Yes we are doing well. 🙂
@@FoothillsofAppalachia-nj6cq No worries at all. I hope your hunts were successful 🙂
Q & A for Episode 2 of #AskKrista 1. If you have questions for future episodes, please do so in the comments or email me and use the hashtag #askkrista so they stand out. Thank you ☺
👍👍 I do two thumbs up when I'm either doing chores or if I don't have my glasses on (and can't see the keyboard). 🙂
Thanks Jill 💕🤓
Great video with so many great suggestions! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you Miki and Bill 💕
Nice information
Thank you McD. Hope you're doing well my friend 🙂Have a great day.
Very well presented, I think you should do more of these Christy. This could have been 3 separate videos though? Warm wishes from Millionaire Paul 👋
Thank you Millionaire Pau 🙂It's intentional to combine questions that I get so that I can answer them in a timely manner. These were recent Q's and I have a list of older Q's that I will combine in upcoming videos. I appreciate your suggestion, thanks. Have a great day 🙂
Very informative video❤❤❤❤❤
Glad you found it informative. Thank you ❤
Thanks for reminding me to review and update this. I rarely go on my computer. ❤
My pleasure Jen 🙂Have a great day 💕
You are absolutely 100% correct I did this three months ago I only had only used 30 chargers and I change this and put in 500 containing to my channel and what I do. The difference over the last three months is astronomical. It is an absolute must if you want to grow your channel I can’t believe I made this mistake so important. I am glad you’re sharing this. Thank you.
I'm glad you were able to figure this out and make adjustments and congratulations on the growth of your channel 🥰
Thank you @@AlmostaGreenAcre-zs5eu
