This is amazing! But in the model I have ( a lego model), all the parts are built from unconnected sections (i.e. stids, faces, etc.) so the parts them selves are exploding! An quick way to limit the fracture to an oject-level explosion?
Hey, thanks! I'm not sure I understand completely. Are you saying each part is a group of objects, and you want them to stay together? If that's the case, you could group them under a null so the fracture treats them as a single object.
Great series of tutorials! I skipped ahead to watch the last part but there didnt seem to be any practical explanation of how the tools work. I want to ask How do the tools snap to points or lines for instance?
Hi, at the beginning of each video, I quickly review each setting. Regarding snapping, I simply use the snapping option in C4D. ua-cam.com/video/0gUHUaOh6uE/v-deo.htmlsi=AOy-0_kq4lx9mR1g
@@gillesdillenseger6472 You definitely do that, but thats running throught the slider controls. When you are using the angle tool and you want to snap the line against an edge what is your process? BTW, no criticism, I absolutely love what you have done. I actually think its worth you doing a demo video of you using these tools.
@@gillesdillenseger6472 Just to say I have followed the tutorials, but i would prefer to buy your files because I am inexperienced in using expresso. The thing that stops me buying is not a full explanation of the use of the tools. The length measure is easy to work with as you shift along the 'END'null. But on the Angle tool going into to the hiarachy and adjusting the angle of the mospline in the hope of snapping to an edge, point, polygon seems not very user friendly and breaks the tool itself.
Got it! No need to worry about the hierarchy-it’s super simple. Just pick the main null called "angle," and you’ll find all the settings you need in the User Data tab to adjust the tool. The idea is to place that null at the origin of the angle you want to work with, align the tool using the Coordinates tab, and then type in the angle you need in the User Data tab. I didn’t include a snapping feature, unfortunately, but I hope this helps! 😊
@@gillesdillenseger6472 Ah, thats what i was thinking. This isnt actually a tool. Especially the Angle tool - its doesnt work with geometry of an object to give you the angle ie the angle edge doesnt snap to an object . Having to type in the angle information in user data means its not actually a tool - Its more for display/rendering purposes only and isnt a drawing aid which is a shame because it could have been both. Mate, i think with your skill you can tweak this to make it properly functional, at the moment its not, well the angle tool isnt anyway and im guessing the same applies to the radius tool. The measure line tool seems to work in that respect but you have to go into the hiarachy and not the user data ctrl system you have created which feels counter intuitive.

great tutorial series thank you! I see things have changed in 2024 with no option for 'add PSR constraint'. Will the files on gumroad still work in 2024.5.1?
Sure! I just tested it on 2025 to confirm it still works. The PSR constraint is still present in 2025, but it’s now called "transform." By the way, thanks for watching!
@@gillesdillenseger6472 appreciate the quick reply, just purchased! you are the bomb!!
You're welcome! Thanks a bunch for your purchase!
is it possible to select where droplets start from? and where to spawn
Sure, my approach would be to introduce an intermediate group. In the "big" group, the reproduce called "activator" could transfer particles to a group called "pre-activator" (or any other name), in which i'd add a field condition (using a spherical field for exemple). Then, using a switch group operator, the particles would be moved to the activator group once the condition is met (e.g., when the particles are within the spherical field). I hope this makes sense :)
@ no it doesn’t but that’s fine, i bought the files and it is perfect for what i needed it. I was about to spend a few hours making this in Houdini and honestly you saved me so much time 😊
Thank you for your purchase! If you could share your email, I’d be happy to send you an updated file if that would be helpful.
@@gillesdillenseger6472 That is really kind of you, we have already delivered the animation to the client and he is very happy with how it looks. Thanks again for saving us tons of time!!!
Great !
Hi great tutorial! Unfortunately Im hitting a snag at 28:24. Its where you are animating the arrows and you adjust the settings in the math multiply going into the end arrow to -1. Your result is that the arrows now touch the end poles but my result is that they dont and are 2.65 cm away on both sides. This means the arrows not touching will have a knock on effect to the measurements. I have followed and repeated every process so Im just wondering if you have any advice to solve this? Kind regards
Hi , thanks for your review, could you please send me your file so I can have a look ? dillensegerpro@gmail.com
when i drop my bottle in my PC crashes :D
Hey, what’s the scale of the bottle compared to the original sphere? If it’s significantly larger, that would mean a lot of particles are being spawned. Also, what’s your setup?
@@gillesdillenseger6472 I think it maybe is my setups problem :D I work on a 2022 Razer laptop. It handels normal c4D and GPU work nice. But I think the CPU performance is limited here :D --> Scale of the bottle is the same as the sphere :-)
@@jj89677 That’s strange-if the object is the same size, it shouldn’t be harder to manage. Plus, since the particle system is GPU-accelerated, it should perform efficiently. Have you tried using a different object to see if the issue persists? (I'm on a 2022 laptop aswell)
@@gillesdillenseger6472 thanks for your answer :-). The sphere works great. The bottle retepol. works but very slow. The simulation in the viewport takes like 98% of my CPU performance. I installed c4d 2025 maybe I missed a checkbox in preferences:D!?
Just to give you an idea: when I switch to the Can with the same radius as the sphere but double the height, the particle count doubles. While working on it and making adjustments, I had to disable certain particle groups-usually, I kept the smaller droplets turned off. I also only enable the mesher for rendering, as it slows down my playback frame rate significantly. The setup is still fairly heavy, so a slower frame rate is expected on a laptop. I hope this helps !
ONly in 2024 ?

Excellent work Gilles! what renderer do you use? I ask because of the pyro of course, and if there is any particular workflow for which renderer. Thanks.

Hi, if you're using C4D 2025 or a later version, check out this fix video ! ua-cam.com/video/7yw0_Bx3_xI/v-deo.html
Awesome 👍
Anyone else having trouble keeping the particles sources on the same line? At minute 2:19 he gets them on the same line by changing the emitter lifetime to 0. In C4D 2025 it only works if set to infinite, but the dots are no longer in a proper line, if that makes sense...
Hi, thanks for bringing this to my attention! I just checked it out, and there's an easy fix. I'll do my best to upload a video explaining it as soon as possible!
Sure, this new particle system il really fun and promissing !
Great tutorial !Thnak you so much
Thanks for watching 😀
Cool setup, man!! One thing, on 13:05 you use XPresso to transfer pos/rot from the source object to the child, but there's a Constraint tag that does just the same thing. You put it on a child object, hit Transform and then select the source object. It will transfer PSR from one object to another. Just fyi, not to mock or something :)
Yes I know , I guess really like putting xpresso tags everywhere 😀
@@gillesdillenseger6472 I also have a tendency to overcomplicate things, more or less :) Nevertheless, great particle setup!
@@FLXD I usually go with Xpresso for this type of constraint right from the start, especially since I might need more control over PSR later on. I prefer keeping everything in a single tag rather than managing a separate constraint tag. Having both simultaneously can quickly turn into a priority headache, so it's more of a workflow habit for me.
Hey! I have one problem with it. I can't change any object in the project. Particles only apply on sphere, do you know why?
Hi, difficult to answer like that, maybe send me your file so I can have a look: gilles.dillenseger@gmail.com
you are my new love omg incredible
is it possible to export this to UE with the shaders??? thanks
Yes, it’s possible to export the animation as an Alembic file. However, this isn't suitable for real-time use, as Alembic files are quite large since they store the entire mesh for each frame. This approach would work if you're planning to export the result as a video. As for the shader, you can open the C4D file in Unreal, and the shaders should transfer, but I'm not certain how well they will translate. Some adjustments may be required.
@@gillesdillenseger6472 Thank you for the advice
As su une solution ?

Thank you so much for the amazing in depth tutorial. I purchased the file and when I go to render the scene with my object (a can) only three buckets render and the rest are black. It also happens in the original file and variations I tried with different render settings. Do you have any idea why this may be the case?
Thanks for your feedback! I'm not quite sure what might be causing this issue. Have you tried updating your NVIDIA driver?
i'm an experienced c4d user since version 8.2 (old enough to remember this one), but this tutorual is HARD )))) i dont know nothing about new particle system, i'm a XP user. But seems like C4D particle system is way more powerful than XP. Great video, thanks !)
Hey, thanks so much for your review! If you're familiar with XP, you'll get the hang of this pretty fast since the concepts are really similar. I’ve used XP a bit too and still think it’s a bit better than the new system, but it’s awesome to be able to do this right in C4D!
this is amazing
Thank you 😀

@@gillesdillenseger6472 thank you so much for replay, btw I found a glitch. I did mistake in start hight and end hight's constraint tag, I did not checked Local P. Now I did correction.. and again thank you so much for great tutorial..
Yes, that part is a bit confusing. I suspected the error might be related to the local/global positioning. I'm glad you found a solution!
Thank you for this great tutorial. I noticed that after caching the scene, the particles started to get slightly detached from the main object, as if no longer getting attracted to the surface. Any idea what might be causing this? Thank you in advance 🙏
Hey, I won’t have access to my computer for the week, but I’ll check it out when I’m back.
love this tutorial, great job. At some point the particles started floating away and I just added another surface attractor LOL. But yeah you go at a decent speed, you skip a few settings at the start so it was confusing. But it requires you to pay attention. Definitely not for a beginner but thats exactly what I want. The new particle system is really robust and I'm kind of blown away and intimidated by it. But I guess this means less Houdini.
Thanks 😀
Love the tutorial! Any recommendation on how to have the same effect buut on an object?
Hi, thank you! I briefly explain that aspect towards the end of the tutorial
Love it
I tested it in the 2024 version, where it was supposed to work fine, but the horizontal lines display incorrectly during playback. The same content runs perfectly in the 2023 version. Should I enable any specific settings in the 2024 version, or is it just not possible to preview correctly in 2024? (The animation is correct, but the preview window shows errors.)
Hey! I'll be away for the next two weeks and won't have access to my computer, but I'll definitely check it out when I'm back. Feel free to let me know if you find a solution in the meantime!
Yep I had the same error, the problem is the Boolean, just deactivate the "High Quality" option that should fix it
@@Ladroga. Thanks for sharing this 😀
Amazing tutorial! Can I do this with Octane renderer??
Absolutely! When I use a Redshift tag, I believe you can achieve the same thing with an Octane tag (although I haven't used Octane myself). Alternatively, you could use a cloner to replicate the drops on the particles.
@@gillesdillenseger6472 Hi thanks for your reply! got your file on gumroad and I'll test it out on Octane!
Fantastic tutorial! Your explanation was super clear, and I learned so much from it. I’m having a bit of trouble with making the drops fall slower, though. I tried adjusting gravity, surface attraction, and friction, but they either move too fast, choppy, or act unpredictably. Any tips to help slow them down smoothly would be amazing! Thanks for all the great content!
Thanks so much for your feedback! I know adjusting those parameters can be a bit tricky since they all work together, but if you’ve got a setup that feels good and just want to slow things down a bit, I’d suggest caching the particles first. After that, head to the cache tab where you’ll find a speed slider-just make sure to tweak the speed for all the particle groups involved ! I hope this helps !
