    Isn't this a bit like colcannon?

    • @GrannysScottishKitchen
      @GrannysScottishKitchen Місяць тому

      Almost…Rumbledethumps includes cheese, which is not traditionally found in Colcannon and is typically baked, resulting in a crispy cheese topping, whereas Colcannon is more of a stovetop dish with a creamy texture.

    Just found this channel and I am loving it! Granny cooks just the way I do. I get so intimidated by the chefs who talk really fast and throw things in a pot and have such glamorous and huge kitchens. This is so me. Homely and down to earth.

Perfect for when I've got some leftover tatties. Ye've got such a grand way of explainin' things, an' by the end, I've got a clear idea of how tae make those tasty tattie scones. Proper home cookin' that's cheap as chips an' full of flavour - what's no tae love? I'll definitely be givin' it a go masel'. Cheers, Granny! Slàinte!

    My granny from Patna would be shocked!!!! Add the mustard seed to the dry frying pan at the very start, fling in a piece of cinnamon bark and a few cumin seeds - if available 2-3 cloves (no more) and a big bay leaf, dry fry for a few seconds then add the oil and fry for 30 secs or until the mustard seeds pop. Have a lid handy!!! Once the mustard has stopped popping, add the onions and about half of a pepper finely chopped. remove the white pith from the peppers, it can be somewhat bitter cook for a good 10-15 mins , more if you have the patience to get them well browned, if it sticks at all , stir well and/or add a tiny amount of boiling water - just enough to get that those yummy brown bits off the pan and into the onions - then add the garlic ginger, fry for about a minute and add the spices. Cook them in for a few mins, again adding SMALL amounts of water to stop it sticking. Fresh lemon juice also works well here. Then wash your coriander, trim the ends and cut the stalks off. Chop the stocks finely and add them into the spice/onion mix. Keep cooking gently for another few mins and then continue as you have shown - this really will make difference. Looking forward to more of your recipes, Greetings from South Ayrshire 🙂

      @@GrannysScottishKitchen Shocked at the use of the blender and air fryer. Although from Ayrshire, she would eschew the use of an air fryer. Its interesting to see how jalfrezi, originally a quick stir fried street food from Bengal has evolved through BIR (British Indian Restaurant) to become a slower dish with much sauce. No less yummy for that though but quite different from a jalfrezi you would get on the streets of Kolkatta or Patna, Bihar. May I add how impressed I am by the production qualities of this vid, especially for a relative newcomer to YT. Also the almost total lack of crappy ASMR music in the background so we can actually hear you. Somebody obviously knows what they are doing. Well done and keep it up 🙂

      @@GrannysScottishKitchen Always save the stringy bits from the banana skins as well. Dry them out for 48 hrs and add to your usual scone mix for alternative space cakes. My Granny from Drongan taught me this.

      Enjoy the recipe. It’ll last a few days too.

    Will do this recipe. A 'Meatloaf Jar' is not used in the USA, but it should be. SO much less clean-up and easy to serve. We have many recipes for Meat Loaf, all baked in a handmade bread loaf shape or a loaf pan, ketchup on top. (Americans and ketchup...😉) And yes on the mustard. Delicious. Thanks!

      Sounds great! You can buy the jars from cook shops or antique shops. They are a rarity though.
