2 Astro rigs 1 night - "Cheating" a Comet image & the Monkey Head and Jellyfish Nebula
Hi everyone,
In this video I set up two rigs and capture C/2022 E3 ZTF using the Askar 80PHQ and the ZWO Asi 2600mm Pro. I also, imaged the Jellyfish and Monkey Head Nebula with the William Optics Redcat 51 and Two 2600mm Pro.
My imaging sessions did not go to plan and I was interrupted by cloud, so I had to "fake" my C/2022 E3 ZTF image by collecting RGB data for the comet and star cluster the following night. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

    Hello Russell, Excellent shot and use of the scope. I am thinking about pulling the plug on one of these and have a question for you if you don't mind. I will also be using the WZO EAF focuser and was wondering how you handle the mirror locks, do you leave these unlocked so that your focuser can adjust the focus as needed when switching filters or do you go through a focus routine with each filter change? I know you are using ASIAIR where as I am using NINA and it has a setting you can use to focus after each filter change. So just wondering how you deal with the focus lock if at all? By the way, congratulations on your first light with the new to you scope. Fantastic shot if the galaxy.

    Hey Russell, enjoyed the video but it gave me a question. I just received my MN190 and was setting it up to image last night but the focuser was not holding the camera securely. Not that I thought it was going to fall out but it wobbled side to side pretty badly. Have you had this issue? How did you overcome it? Thanks!

  • @davidletz9123
    @davidletz9123 2 місяці тому

    Thanks for this...I am relatively new to this, and what I have been able to glean from other YT videos is that "darks" is accomplished by placing the cap over the scope and exposing for the same length of time your lights used. So, if your lights were 180 seconds, your darks would be 180 seconds with the cap on the scope/lens. Are "dark flats" the samw as "darks?"

      @@andy121bplp Sorry for the late response! So, I did make a major mistake that required shipping it back to Celestron for repairs. I also purchased "starsense align" which is AMAZING because it automatically takes pictures of the sky and aligns it for you. Unfortunately, it was kind of cloudy one night and the star align camera couldn't see any stars to solve plates, so it started attempting goofy positions to find something. While I was staring at the app, my eye peice jammed against the motorized mount, which stripped one of the motor gears. It also ruined the threads which the diagonal mirror box attaches to, so I couldn't screw or unscrew anything. Plus because the up and down gear was stripped, starsense was wildly inaccurate. Truth is, I had no idea this could've happened and it was my fault. I didn't notice it was jamming itself because it was dark and I was wearing headphones. I also couldn't find the power button and shut it off in time. Lesson learned. To be fair, Celestron as a company was extremely slow, but they were amazing. They fixed everything under the warranty and shipped it back to me for free, even though I admitted it was 100% my fault. You will want to get better eyepeices immediately. The light pollution is rough near me, but the moon looks absolutely incredible with this scope. I tried seeing galaxies last night and they looked pretty awful with a Televue 2x Barlow and 13mm Naglar. So far the only planet I've been able to see is Jupiter, just because of where I live. All I can say is that I love this telescope, but keep in mind that you need to have realistic expectations. Almost every single picture you see online from this scope is processed. What you see through the lens itself will be much different. Still, it's a lot of fun.

Thanks for posting such an amazing images. 1.Can askar 300 or 400 good for planet viewing such as moon,saturn ?.My main concern is viewing deep sky .Due to budget. 2.More aperture more light for deep sky [ like celestron nextstar 6se or 8se],then how askar can take such an incredible image?

    • @RaimondLuxuryYacht
      @RaimondLuxuryYacht 4 місяці тому

      Planets require a completely different gear and technique than DSO. Generally speaking, DSOs require: -a lot of long exposures to get more light -low f/ number to get more light -small focal lenght as they are very big -good mount to make those long exposures accurate -multiple nights imaging to get more total light -cooled camera to reduce the noise of long exposures to a minimum So a FRA 300/400 is an ideal scope for big DSOs but you also need a decent mount. If you want to do smaller and fainter DSOs you require longer focal lenghts but you also have to consider aperture to maintain a decent f/ number (ideally below 7) and thus a bigger scope that requires a bigger mount. Planetary imaging requires: -loooong focal lenght (ideally 2000+) -high aperture not to get more light but to get more resolution -f/ number isn't important for light gathering as planets are really bright objects -reccomended f/ number depending on your camera pixel size (5x 7x rule) -the mount doesn't need to be super accurate, just big enough to support a big scope -high frame rate camera -you're going to shoot high fps videos and select only a few lucky frames where the atmoshpere was still enough to make your big aperture do it's thing so you don't need a cooled camera TL;DR a short small refractor and a decent mount with a cooled camera for DSOs, a big newt, SCT, RC or mak, a high fps camera and a mount that can carry everything for planetary.
