Lovely images mate. The redcat is a great widefield scope. I am especially loving your sit in front of the obsy style recording so it looks like you have a halo 😆🤣🤣
Great approach to the comet image. It is smart, not cheating. I love the wide field view of the jellyfish and monkey. Usually you just see separate images of them. Your image gives a great perspective. Sounds like the UK and Canada share the same weather forecaster! Been foiled a few times this winter. Dr B from Manitoba, Canada 🇨🇦
Thanks for the shout-out Russell, far from cheating I would say… otherwise we’d be cheating every time we interpreted colours when processing monochrome SHO data… Two wonderful images, love the Ion Tail on the comet and the star colours are nice… a night of frustration turned out to be night of success…👍🏻
Great images! Unless you're gathering data for scientific research, "cheating" is fine so long as you are clear about what you've done (which you are).
Hi Russell, Well, let's face it, when it comes to astrophotography, we all 'cheat' to some extent using AI and other post-processing techniques. Your comet image was FANTASTIC. I would never dream of using two different nights of comet data for one image. And that Jellyfish/Monkey Head nebula in SHO is outstanding. I love that widefield view. Question: Did that March winter storm affect you? I noticed snow and cold in Britain around March 7-8.
Very very good final images. I love how you've overcome the problems. I have the red cat too, I need to try to image the 2 objects that you did. I was wondering if one could use 2 ASIair's near each other, don't they put out the same wifi signal, or can you set it to specific signals?
Hi Russell. I know that you have previously declined requests to make a video demonstrating your processing techniques, but I'm going to throw it out there again - please do one! I love your final images above pretty much everyone and want to learn how you do it. Very entertaining videos too. Thanks from the other side of the planet here in Australia. Cheers!
Great video Russell. I feel your pain mate, I had a go at the comet without much success! Weather didn’t play ball! Really nice monkey head and jellyfish 👍 One of my rigs is the same setup as yours, with the heq5, redcat51, 2600mm and Antlia 3nm filters. Great rig mate! Just need some clear skies! Are you going to PAS this year Russell? CS
Very nice images and honest description of the realities and travails of comet chasing under fickle uk skies. My RC 51/ 2600mm/ deep sky dad eaf etc is almost identical to yours. Love mine. One quick question: do you have the 36mm or 2” filter wheel, and have you bolted on the filter wheel to the 2600mm? I have been using 2” 3/4nm Baader NB filters with a filter drawer but thinking of getting a 7 slot 36mm filter wheel. Cheers, Des
Hey Russel ! Amazing video and overall content on your channel ! I am thinking about picking up a new scope with a shorter focal length for wide field imaging.. How does the Askar scopes compare with the RedCat ? Currently I own a Esprit 120 (840mm) and a reducer to bring it down to 646mm when necessary. I am looking for something to pair with the asi2600 chip and cover the focal lenght between 400mm & 200mm. What would you recommend? Thanks a lot and keep up the great work !
I would disagree that it's cheating. Using A.I. to create pictures and then taking the credit or letting people think you did it is cheating. But when you captured all the data yourself, and put it together in a final image how it actually appeared in the night sky is definitely not cheating. It's beating the forces against your efforts. Stunning final images, by the way. Good on you mate!
Hi russel, i also have the redcat 51 and an older eq5 mount. My askar 80phq is arriving this week🎉 would the eq 5 will manage the askar 80phq? Greetings from belgium and thanks for the great footage! Btw hope you shoot the dark shark nebula next time❤
Thank you Jonas, glad you like the videos, thank you for watching. I think the HEQ5 pro would probably handle the 80PHQ, but it would be close to its limits. I’ve not actually tried it as I’ve always put the 80PHQ on the ioptron, so unfortunately I can’t give more information.
I'm new to astrophotography and have a similar setup, is there a reason you left the tilt plate on the 2600? I have it removed but am not sure if it matters with this scope.
Lovely images Russell. Good save on the comet image. I wouldn't call it cheating at all, more a case of making the best of a bad situation😉The comet moves so quickly that the best way to photograph it is to produce separate comet and star masters anyway. Glad you managed to capture it, I missed it completely due to the weather being so bad.
Thanks Pete, really appreciate it. Yes technically I guess it’s not cheating, just a shame it couldn’t be finished on one night. Anyway I’m happy with the final result. Thanks for watching 👍
Hope everything is OK Russell. Missing your videos.
Come back Russell we miss you
Love that widefield

nice work Russell
Nice set of images mate that comet became the bain of my life so I've given up on it lol.

That’s very true, thank for the suggestion on this image, was a great time to capture the comet 👍
Continue your channel
Great and interesting video. I love the comet . I also struggled with the weather and missed it going passed Mars never mind next time ! 😂
Excellent images Russell. Clever thinking to get a final image on the comet. The Monkey Head and Jellyfish in the same fov looks fantastic.

Thanks Dave, yes I agree as long as you let people know what/how you get the data I don’t think there’s much of a problem. Thanks for watching
Nice Video. And a good night, you could rescue ;) i like the result
Thank you very much 👍

Great Images Russell, good thinking on the comet image.. I bet it was a pain to process. Love the Jelly and Monkey. CS
Thanks very much mate. The processing wasn’t too tricky to be honest, but it did take a long time to stack so many files. CS mate 👍

Sometimes the cloud gods are against you Russell , but you managed to pull out two great images
Thanks very much Tony

Hi Russell, did you notice any improvement in guiding when you upgraded to 50mm guidescope? Cheers

Haven't seen you post videos in a while, how are things
Something needs to be done with the sound/voice on this video. I can't understand what you are saying. I can barely hear you!
