People refer to it as a “licking branch.” Deer will rub their forehead, lick it, chew it, thrash it, to leave their scent in the area. It’s a way that bucks can tell other deer “I’m here” essentially. Bucks will constantly try to cover up each other’s scent to show they are the dominant one!

We try and run protein as much as we can, for our wildlife exemption! Funny thing is, we haven’t killed a buck that has ever really came to our protein feeders. This property is a great travel corridor and the rut will usually bring a solid shooter or two into the area!

Hard to compete with the amount of agriculture in the Midwest! Past 4 years have been tough on this property for a variety of reasons but we still have 120-130” deer every year with the occasional 140+! This county also has antler restrictions but that doesn’t stop our neighbors from shooting 2yr olds that make the 13”!

Yeah my dad and all my uncles hunted out there for years. My uncle shot an 8 point and there were so many mosquitoes on the antlers it looked like the buck was in velvet! Had been pretty dry and they were there, but weren’t horrible!

Get there early with plenty of tackle. Redfish on carolina rigs using live shrimp, cutbait, live mullet. Try going shallow on surfside for flounder with a short carolina rig. I'll be there in the morning, will give you an update of any action I see!
