Feeder Fishing on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal! 🎣

It's early April and the predators are spawning so it's time to give them a break. I had a few hours free to fish and headed down to my local canal. What reel and rod is that? Alijoz??
Which one matey, the light lure rod and reel or the heavier pike one?
Nice video. Some great lures there. You should try out ABU/SZ Mcmy, and McJerk/McTrazer 12/12,5cm (same lure upsidedown). Gunki King Gamera is another good lure, 15cm/50g twitch/jerkbait but possible to use as a wobbler too, small profile makes it manageable even for smaller pike, a quick snack. If you like the Zilla Flanker you should try PROREX Flatty 150/Flat Bait MR 15cm/61g, it goes deeper and cathces more for me. Dont try the Rapala Shadow XRap 16cm, the Zilla Flanker is a better bait working the same depths, lip shape very much alike but rapala doesnt rattle, so it might maybe be a better lure in pressured waters. I notice that i have to all the time change fishing location and let my spots rest for some days between fishing them, that moght be something to think of for you too. Will follow your channel. Best wishes from Svängsta, Karlshamn city in Blekinge County, Sweden. Yes, i see the ABU factory from my window and are able to fish where they used to try gear out just by the factory, pretty cool.
Thanks for the great comment! I’ll definitely check those lures out dude, I especially like the sound of the Gunki lure 🎣 Cheers for watching and tight lines in your fishing! I’d love to go fishing in Sweden, looks amazing and some awesome fish there! 🇸🇪😎👍
Just found your channel. Great honest content ! I had some success on the rufford last year . On small finesse jigs especially on pegs where I noticed pole fishing guys are set up regular. Best perch I got was 2lb and a quite a lot of jacks . Learning a lot myself and trying to find more waters . I have never fished the ribble but always wondered if it’s possible to lure on with a weedless rig set up or something.
Thanks matey! You would definitely do well on the ribble with a weedless setup especially if you can find the perch on there! And yes, I’m going to start toning down my light lure stuff a little more too! Finesse presentations definitely get you more fish on the bank that’s for sure! Tight lines! 🎣😁👍
@@AtlauaFishing Have you tried it yourself for perch on ribble ? Just need to work out where I can park and fish on the ribble. So many different groups owning different parts makes it confusing 🤣.
I normally just fish the free stretch matey, plenty of river to try! I had a few short sessions with the light lures that weren’t productive but with it being a river it depends on the river levels and flow sometimes too so can be difficult at times 🎣 I have had success using worms and maggots for the perch though and there’s some crackers in there if you can find em! I usually park where the old shaw’s arms pub was near London road bridge 🎣👍
Great Video thanks for the insight and effort to make and upload the video.
Glad you enjoyed it, I’m hoping to get better at these types of vids! 🎣👍
Great video
Thanks matey! 👍
Hi mate, sorry you had the blank, my own canal is often a source of great disappointment! If you haven’t subscribed to The Ginger Fisherman then I’d highly recommend him. He’s very successful on canals and small rivers, catching all species, especially perch and pike. You might find you’re just fishing to big a lure for the size of the pike in the canal but check out the videos, I know you’ll like them and it might help the canal fishing in general. He uses a bike to cover a lot of ground, searching out the bait fish first before casting (logical really) and he really does have a great catch rate. Tight lines ! 👍🏻😁
Thanks for watching mate! Yes, blanks can be very disappointing but that’s fishing for ya! 😅 The ginger fisherman is phenomenal, I have seen plenty of his videos and is great to learn from that’s for sure! Tight lines! 🎣🎣🎣
Hi m8 do you live around the area your fishing now, was brought up around there only recently started to fish that stretch again. Some great scenery and nice place to live.
Yes I do live locally! Some great places to fish close by which is handy when you only get to fish for a couple of hours at a time 🎣👍
Back of your car looks like mine 😂 nice video 😊
@@blackline66 🤣 thanks dude! 💪🏼🎣
I fish the same canals of the northwest as you m8, been catching constantly on jerk bates recently if it helps.
@@James.grahamEFC Nice mate, had any decent ones out? I just need to find the time to get out more to be honest! Hoping to try with the deads a fair bit over winter 🎣 tight lines
@@AtlauaFishing Nothing massive m8, around 9lb biggest so far. All on lures tho.
I changed to circle hooks 2 years ago. Would never go back. No more loss of fish than with trebles. Much easier to get hooks out.
I wouldn’t look back either! Never had any trouble with trebles or single circles however unhooking has been much quicker and safer in my experience with them so far! Thanks for watching, tight lines! 🎣🐊
I caught a jumper, a dog lead, and a carrier bag on the same canal.
At least we didn’t blank eh 🤣🤣🎣
Good morning. Do you catch most of your pike on lures or dead bait? I went on the Leeds Liverpool last night and it poured down the whole time
@@theflossingfisherman7925 mostly smaller pike on lures and the bigger ones come on deadbait 😁🎣🐊
@@AtlauaFishing Yes same here, Hope your having a good week, tight lines. Greg
@@theflossingfisherman7925You too mate, I’m dying to get out fishing but work and kids have me busy 24/7 at the minute 🤣😩
Great video. Looking forward to seeing some deadbaiting sessions soon.
Thanks matey! Yes, looking forward to the pike season ahead! 🐊🎣
Blanks are part of fishing mate ! I’m great at it 💪🏻🎣
You and me both 🤣💪🏼🎣
It is good to show the highs and lows of fishing, it keeps it true. Another good video and the season is still early, I am sure you will show us something special soon.
Cheers matey! It’s been hard to find time to get out at the moment! Hopefully can bank some fish next time! 🎣🤞
@@AtlauaFishing I have not been out for a week. Work is one, and then spending time with my son and helping with homework. I was going to try and get out early evening tonight, but it looks like Mario and Fortnite.
@@AtlauaFishing I went on the Rufford last night, to much surface weed. I went down to the Farmers, and I was surprised to see a lot of surface weed there, also. But there were a lot of places with no weed.
Yes it’s especially weedy that way! The leeds liverpool canal is better for weed free fishing at the moment! 🎣
I love his Jacket. It's a great idea to have some time for son and dad, and he will remember those days when he was older. Getting them out in the fresh air is also a big bonus. My son is twelve now and comes with me on the odd occasion. PS even I trip over my landing net lol
Thanks mate! Yes that’s what it’s all about! Getting out in the fresh air and nature! He loves it but still a bit young to grasp the technique 🤣🎣
I took my son fishing for the first time when he was 3-4 but was too young then, he just wanted to keep spinning the reel 😅 Then at 7 he got seriously hooked on pole fishing on Macclesfield Canal, catching his first roach, perch and even bream 😊
This is what it’s all about matey! 👏 My son just does the same thing haha, I cast out and he likes to reel in! 🎣 I can’t wait till he is a little older so he can get into it properly! Tight lines!
Lure in face😂.Good video looks like the little guy enjoyed it.
🤣🤣🤣 Almost got me! Thanks matey, he certainly did! 👍🎣
Nice fish
Thanks 🎣👍
Good to see you back. I have spent a lot of time on the Rufford this year, but I have also been around the Martin Inn. Ruffords been good, but lots of weed. I had all my lures out today and put some new braid on my rod. Let's make sure we get together, even if it's for a coffee by the canal at some point. See you soon, Greg
Definitely up for this matey, a session on the canal sounds good! 🎣👍
What size devil rod are you using ? Good spots round there but alot of weed at the mo 🎣 tight lines
@@mlkogk9928 It’s the 5-15g rod matey! Definitely weedy at the moment but hopefully it will die down soon 😁🎣 tight lines
@@AtlauaFishing yeah hopefully,do you ever fish the sluice ? on the second part of your video I went to that spot other day there was a lot of bait fish along that stretch after the bend so might be worth targeting that area again and good luck 🎣🎣
@@mlkogk9928yes I do occasionally fish the sluice matey! It’s a great stretch that part of the canal and I’ve seen some decent perch and pike lurking 👀🎣
Its not easy...but worth it when we catch, thanks for the video 👍
Ayee it certainly is mate! Thanks for watching! 🎣🎣🎣
Go on mate what canal you on. Me and ma mate went ribble today live baits and worms he got a pb perch 2.4lb pike 6lb and lost 2. Keep it up

@@BlackCountryPiker Thanks matey! Looking forward to the pike season now the weather is turning! 🎣🎣🎣
Can you just rock up and pay
In the past yeah but now you have to book through the swimbooker app I think 👍🎣
Great video! Inspired to try more dead-baiting but I often only have about an hour to fish and I'm not sure if it would be effective :/
Thank you for watching! I often only fish for an hour or two as well so I make the most of first and last light or just pick a good location for the hour or two you’re fishing for 🎣
@@AtlauaFishing That's encouraging to hear!
Cheers for the video
Cheers for watching! 🎣👍
Nice mate
Thanks 👍
Also surprised Glynis let you use 3 rods, told me no, only 2, and only 6 fishing at any 1 time....Catfish not make an appearance? 6 in there now....also 1 20lb Pike
Nothing was mentioned about 2/3 rods. And it was quite busy that Sunday morning too. No catfish, just carp this time. Never knew there was a pike in there, be something to go at for sure
@AtlauaFishing Yah, I've always been told 2 rods when there's 4 or more anglers, there's about 6 catfish in 4yr ago, and only the 1 Pike to control silvers what your not allowed to fish for but if you accidentally catch it, then fair enough....
Just come across your video, i used to fish it alot....the peg you was in before you moved i fished last year, had 21 carp upto 18lb, in 1 night....also also had "Percy" the sturgeon, literally fished 1 rod length out, mesh bag of Sticky Manilla, white pop up....not been back since.....Sold up
It’s a decent fishery, local as well which is handy. Wow! You must’ve timed that well, cleaned up by the sounds of it. Yeah I’ve had Percy a few times now but apparently other anglers are getting annoyed with it so the owners keep moving Percy into another lake to give it a rest haha. Love a Percy battle!! Nice tactics mate, sticky manilla is class, you should try their new range - the active
@AtlauaFishing yeh, they have a stock pond at back of the fishery they rest him in....I've sold up now, just do 1 rod roving for a couple hours at a time...
I think I came on the canal while you were fishing. Conditions were tough that day and I stayed about an hour
Was that you lure fishing? 🎣 I would of said hello if I knew it was you mate, conditions were tough with that wind! 💨
@@AtlauaFishing Yes I was Lure Fishing. Great Video, I make schoolboy errors all the time. That's life and how we learn, you and I are not here to advise or teach just to share our experiences. Tight Lines
@@theflossingfisherman7925cheers matey! I love sharing my fishing and I think it’s a good way to engage with the younger generations to hopefully get more people into it! 🎣 Hopefully meet you on the bank next time! Tight lines! 🎣
@@AtlauaFishing Yes I agree, what Rod were you using.
@@theflossingfisherman7925 korum all rounder 1.25lb - comes with three different tips 1oz, 2oz and a 3oz. It’s a great rod, I use it on the river a lot 🎣
Cracking bream in tough conditions 👏 👍
Thanks for watching 🎣👍
You’ve made a bit of a school boy error, with the black magic wafters. They are semi buoyant. You should have pinched on a BB about half inch from the hook just in case the weight of the hook doesn’t keep it “wafting” off the bottom to much. It was also pointless loose feeding them, as they would have floated off down the canal.
You got me 🤣 I haven’t used them before and just went all in with them 😅 Good to know that info for next time, thank you 🙏🏼
None of us are experts, we all make schoolboy mistakes. Making videos is about sharing our experience with people, not advising or teaching.

It certainly did 🎣💪🏼
Great video, the music is just right for pike fishing
Glad you enjoyed it 🎵
Great Video, I have never fished the Ribble although I have access with my Southport Angling membership. Keep up the videos.
Cheers mate, I will do. 🎣💪🏼
Well done fella for Championing the use of circle hooks .....you are absolutely correct...it is the safest way, and only humane way to fish for pike...I will never go back to snap tackle and wish the authorities and fisheries would ban all treble hooks....Lovely fish BTW... too late for this season but in your next video hoping you can help explain your hook setup to make sure the viewers get to see how best to hook the bait to provide the best chance of hooking into the pike as you lift(not strike) into it?....👋👋👋
Thank you very much matey! I will definitely try and do a more thorough video next time and explain everything in more detail…. Tight lines 👍🎣🎣
Nice video 👍 I’m definitely going to give circle hooks a go next season 🐊🎣
100% do matey, always good to make your own mind up about things but they are definitely safer in my opinion 👍🎣
@@AtlauaFishingYeah I’ve seen a few videos about them now and definitely agree that they seem far safer. I know they must be inline too, but will just need to get used to leaning into them rather than striking! 😂 Cheers 🎣
@@stuw21to be honest I think I’m using the offset ones but haven’t had any issues with them at all, thanks for watching! 🎣👍
Was that a PB branch? I only use inline circle hooks, have done for years! and it's really good to see someone else not chucking out one of those barbaric 2 treble hook rigs! Pike are getting rare these days... conservation, much easier to unhook etc. Incidentally, i also remove the barbs as well... once that hook goes in it rarely comes out even if the fish goes airborne. Tight Lines indeed!
Great comment mate, the ones I’m using currently are offset circles and since using I have hooked every fish in the corner of the mouth and unhooking has never been easier. Honestly can’t see a reason not to use them. The only thing Ive been trying to do is figuring a way to use pop-ups with the single hook so I can ledger a popped up bait… Thanks for watching bud and I wasn’t sure what you meant by PB branch? It’s a stretch on the Leeds & Liverpool canal 🎣👍
lol, that branch you hooked, it was a biggun! @@AtlauaFishing
@@spikeymikeyangling6218lol my bad, I thought you meant a certain branch of the canal 🤣 I blame tiredness for that one 😅 I think I have had a bigger branch before to be honest so not a PB for me 🤣🤣🤣
Nicely done bro
Thanks bro 👊
I’m fairly new to dead baiting as I’ve never wanted to use trebles unless I’m lure fishing with a single treble. After discovering circle hooks and how safe they are, I was excited to try deadbaiting with them and was so impressed how they caught pike in the scissor every time.. a win win for me 👌
Same here, I pretty much just use single circles for deadbaiting now and trebles on lures. Would be good to find some decent single hooks to try on some of my lures but I guess the hook up rate might reduce a little - always down to try different things to improve fishing and fish care 🎣 thanks for watching 👍
@@AtlauaFishing Most definitely 👍
