I have player J basses most of my life. By themselves they sound the most pleasing to my ears. But even though soloed, the Stingray sounds kind of quacky, in the mix it sounds the best

Brilliant as usual. Close for me between the Jazz and the Ray. I’d be happy with either for that tune. I still remember when it was released. Getting old!

Amazing comparison! Generally speaking I am using to prefer the Jazz sound but also in this situation I must admit that the Stingray cuts the mix much better than the others two basses!

As a real Stingray lover, i must admit the Jazz sounded the best.

I am rather new to bass playing and prefer Precis by far as I play (hard) rock mainly. But when I hear such classy comparisons I hear the class of a Jazz bass (which was in the middle position I guess). And think that the Stingray sounded more Jazzy than the Jazz bass, but I guess that‘s a question of EQing the avtive preamp?

Another great video! The Custom sounds "better" to my ears, but only very slightly. Funny thing is I can't afford either of them anyway 😂

Could you please say few words about the build quality of both?

Neat, i do something similar, make my pedal board , lots of pedals but i only take the ones i need for different gigs plus a spare pre-amp DI pedal, strings, cables etc, & a Tascima 6-way power board,, 6 ways of protection, filters & cleans the power signal...takes the hiss way down...well sheilded, & used in the hifi world a lot...only $35 - $40...all sheilded mains leads with a 2m Supra hifi siver plated OCC OFC power cord & Supra mains plugs, they say you can carry all to a gig nowadays, not me at 60 a small car can take anything i need to bring I have many amp & combo's but my 15" EBS Magni 500 combo is fantastic, goes crazily loud & so clean, the single 15" driver & tweeter cut through the mix well..2 Ashdown cabs & a Warwick Class A WA300 for anything big, a single 12" & a single 15" cabs is more than enough...i always take my cab or combo stands to get whatever cab or combo of the ground...really helps givie a cleaner non booming bass live....you've got it well sussed...

The music man bass sounds more natural coming through the GK. Coming through the Markbass it sounds a little muddy.

Well you made it easy for me. I have two fender precision basses. Seymour Duncan on the Squire Indonesian the bass gives me great sound for a cheaper bass. On the Fender player series II I took off the original fender alcino pickups and put on the Fender 62 vintage pickups, with LaBella flat wounds more of a James Jamerson sound. Thanks for the share appreciated.

All sounds great but the growl of the CS is awesome

Both sound great... classic j-bass "burp." I think the CS has just slightly more articulation in the upper register. But it's very close and I would take either.

Haha, I couldn't help myself from not hearing you guys were playing a reimagined version of "walkabout" by RHCP.

Nice comparison, but let’s not forget although they look alike they are different instruments with different hardware. Nevertheless it’s a good video. It’s only not complete in my opinion: the instruments have way more tone options than shown here.

Had a TM4 and sold it. Did not have that typical Jazz tone. Humbucker alone was nice in passive mode, but overall the bass always sounded without character. No "woody" tones at all.

If the idea is to show the differences in the tone of a bass with a Maple fingerboard vs. a Bass with a rosewood fingerboard, it seems like an interesting video to me. Otherwise the comparison should be between models with fingerboards of the same material for it to be a fair comparison.

The CS is a little fatter, the other a little more dry, but not night and day difference.

Thanks for this. I think the Custom Shop might sound a little better? But definitely not a few thousand dollars better. The Am Pro II is pretty great.

Just a quick note, no offence intended. You have the U47 facing side on to the amplifier and so will be missing the full bottom end response - and you will have a coloured mid range. The U47fet is a cardioid mic and the front is where the logo is. If you are using a valve 47 in Omni mode you could potentially turn it on its side - but I still wouldn’t if I wanted the most accurate sound. Great video anyway and you could absolutely hear the character of the two amps. cheers sj.
