The 77‘s advantage at the neck is its disadvantage at the bridge
The 77 seems to a more open sound and the white one have smoother and creamier sound. To my ears anyway.
RI 74 action is higher = no string buzz, less fret noise, more low end.

How does neck feel? Fret works is smoother on old bass?
Necks are different. The 1977 is thinner and C-shaped, while the RI74 is much thicker and U-shaped. Frets are lower due to leveling over the years on 1977.
