    To ME, the 1975 sounds INCREDIBLY BETTER.... Better definition, more open, more natural, etc. It feel (again, to ME) like that particular piece of wood has nicely settled down perfectly, and resonates just how a J Bass should do... The 2010, on the other hand, sounds like a dud. No harmonics, no life. Typical new Fender basses...

    The 2010 is very very superior, 1975 is a vintage surrogate soap bubble

    75 has more character... 2010 is brighter because of the pickups.

    Great comparison. I like the 1975 better, it has a fatter and tighter sound. Possibly because the deluxe has pickups that are not single coils. In them, one coil is located above the other (vertical humbucker).

      The main difference is the pickup spacing.

    2010 sounds more scooped and clear to my ears, which i prefer. But I bet roger would prefer the 75. Great comparsion.

    2010 front pick up sounds better, like a thick sounding P.
    Both pickups on it’s the 1975 hands down. It’s THE J Bass sound imo.

    Bridge pickup placement is different. Between 1971 and 1982-3, the Jazz Bass had its bridge pickup moved slightly towards the bridge, which shaped a brand new tone for the Jazz Bass, since 1983, aside SOME "70s Jazz Bass" reissue models, the Jazz Bass came back with the original 1960-1971 bridge pickup position. The neck pickup is untouched. So basically, the Deluxe model is a normal Jazz Bass with one extra fret and an active preamp.

      Exactly! Spacing causes the biggest difference in tone.

    Nice comparison. There’s a lot to be said about the differences and preferences, so it’s more for the taste of the listener than for some “objective” judgement. I own a 2012 Deluxe. IMO it’s in no way a “traditional” Fender JB, it’s something else, with its pros and cons and, yes, with humbucker style pickups, which changes the sound significantly. Would I swap my Deluxe for a standard single coil Fender? Well, maybe yes. Some day. If I stumble on the real right one. For me )

    I liked the modern bass better than the vintage bass for some things, and the other way around for other things, when the preamp of the modern bass is defeated. But, considering the modern bass also has an active preamp, it's the hands-down winner. The 1975 model definitely has more mids and less bass and treble, and if that's the sound you are looking for, then the 75 will make you happy. Me, I'm the reverse. I like the better bass and treble extension of the 2010, and the active preamp, when enabled, will only give you even more control. That is to say, there's nothing the 1975 will do that the 2010 can't do, but there's many tones the 75 just can't reach.

    The 2010 Jazz Bass hands down. The slap examples show the reasons. The top end sibilance as only an active circuit can deliver. The more scooped midrange.

    Hi, very nice sound. How is your amp setup so you can sound so clean? I have troubles with the transformer output on my PF-50

    • @ObraBass
      @ObraBass  Рік тому +1

      You can see the setup at the begining of first tone comparison, as at the end before dirt sound. For clean sound, Ampeg gain must stay lower than 10 o'clock.

    Very similar looks, completely different sound. The 2010 is far more modern and clean, with scooped mids and brilliant treble. Very versatile. But there's something special about the vintage 1975 with its nice growl and high-mid peak! I prefer it for most of your examples, it sounds more alive, it's just more recognizable and has its very own character. But I guess what makes the biggest difference is the pickups and their placement, and maybe the electronics. Or do they also sound very differently when not plugged-in?

    • @ObraBass
      @ObraBass  Рік тому +1

      I absolutely agree with everything you said. My observations are 100% the same. The difference when they are not plugged-in is much smaller than when they are plugged-in.

    1975 because it looks WAAAY better than the 2010. Yall taking about how one sounds warmers, or the other sounds punchier when you can adjust your amp and bass settings to get the sound you want. Now a finish and bullet truss rod is much harder to change than the tone of a bass. The fretboard and inlays on the vintage are of much higher quality too. The 75 also has an actual sunburst finish with the center being much brighter.
