"lWhere can I find such split lamps for my Volvo 960 '93?
Ebay, Craigslist, Anything where you can get used autoparts. I dont beleve there is enything new avalible still.
Why not clean the snow off before moving it into the garage? Then there's no big water puddle mess on the floor, and no humidity in the air to rust your tools.
I usually do that, cant rememer why i left is so snowy, probably couldent find that brush again.
What camera/s do you use? The video has an incredible look to it
I have many but use the A7s3 w/16-35Gm lens as my main camera. I would not recommend, the phone is good for 99.9% of what needs filming and rarely does enyone even notice when i secretly just go ahead and use that instead 😄
Hi! Waiting for the next video with update. Hopefully you found the source of that ticking noise.
@@VentisCentis I think its oil pressure. Will have a look at it soon.
Me 6 Months later -> Yeah, Maybe don't paint your walls black. Ceiling, fine, just go with a more flat paint than i did. But do not paint your walls in a dark color.
I laughted at moment when you tried to weight connecting rods. Otherwise great "how to redblock" video.
Don’t worry mine says d5 on the engine but 2.4 on the car 😂
Why heat it up in the winter? Assuming you guys are using salt on your roads thats the worst. the salt mixes with the melt and gets in every nook and cranny to rust your car. Being @ negative temperatures is the best.
True, it its better to keep it outside during the winter, but this needed some work done. And sometimes we have to defrost the cars because ice/snow gets packed in everywhere, specially the wheels making them unbalanced.
What was the cost of that setup?
I don't know 😅 For everything, maybe around 1k usd.
Hello, "Backmans Garage" I was analyzing your channel and saw that in your channel have some problem, That's why your channel is not much growing and not getting much engagement, If you can solve these problems, Your channel will grow like a storm. Thank you, but I think I will pass.
Bra info! Tack
I installed a 3 foot length of FinTube right to the exhaust. The small pipe going thru my wall to exit the exhaust is cool enough to hold by hand without moving your hand, ever. The temp above the fintube where it connects to my heat wrapped stainless pipe is 100F. The air above the fintube where it exit thru the wall is only 80F. Basically you're reclaiming the heat and using it for the space without having to put a huge hole in your wall. I guess the only downside it now you have a 3 to 4 foot length of fintube on your wall.
Yeah, thats a good way to reclaim the heat. I measured 225 Celsius right at the bend so I'm thinking about something like that. The fintube seems to keep the exhaust free flowing as well.
THANK-YOU, hi from Yukon, Canada , I am doing a S60 engine swap , your videos are giving me GENERAL INSIGHT, THANK-YOU AGAIN.
Thanks, glad you found the content useful 😃
Much easier to just develop a small oil leak and drive around constantly topping up the engine oil lol
Had a rusty oil pan for many years, it sure did work 😄
Fluid Film is one of the three best on the market. If you're in the salt belt, spraying it this last in the season, most of it will probably waah off before Spring. You still did the right thing though. Just spray it again late Spring and next Oct/ early November for a guaranteed Winter next Winter.
@@TheBeatenPaths Thanks, ill make some updates to how things progress 😃
Lots of people always suggesting to run the exhaust through a radiator or water heater tank BUT most people are using these deisel heaters to save space..

Hope that you save car for summer! I think they should be more videos about service of car: suspension, steering etc. :)
Yes, unless something bad happens to the black one that I daily it should be in storage until spring :) Yes, I've actually tried to make a service video but i structured it wrong and it would have been waaay too long to cover everything in detail. So next time when its time for service i might split it up into a service series of videos. But for now i want to prioritize the 740 build first.
Did you not try bike tubeless tire sealant?
No, this was just one of those weird videos i was making back then. They don't really make any sense 😄
Sony a7iv is a great camera. Did you end up getting one? I use an a6500
No, i settled for the A7s3 instead, but In hindsight it would be worth more to just spent the money on making more content. The A6500 is a fine camera and will def get you where you want to go. I even switched to my samsung s22 ultra for about 6 months after I sold the a6600 and no one noticed...
Really love your content, keep it up man very relatable. All the best for next year
Thanks! Glad to hear it. All the best to you too.
T5 740 already finisht?
Yes, I know, i get that question alot. Its sitting outside and i see it everyday, and if your into the Volvo 740 t5 project, 2025 will be a good year for you 👍
@@BackmansGarageso excited
I use fluid film On my moms new car put it on every year then forget about it, as for my winter beater it has so many oil leaks that it's not necessary for fluid film.
Aha nice! I have that on my winter beater too, but mostly the gearbox flavor 😄 But it works
anledningen till att tomgången bråkar med dom röda spridarna kan bero på att du använder original bränsletrycksregulator. dom röda spridarna vill ha ett högre tryck än vad orginal klarar av att leverera, så med en ställbar regulator så hade de funkat.
Please check Repair Mode Charge at the bad battery. Or impulse mode of charge (if available in the app)
Tried it, but its just too far gone unfoutunantly.
A little Confusing....
Whats confuzing you ?
@BackmansGarage i Just wanted to See the whole Thing more step By step....but thank you very much for the reply anyway. WE own a 740 and after 35 Years, there are a 100 Things to fix. Happy new Year from Germany
Oh, i see the confusion. This is more of a long custom build rather than a diy video. But there will probably be more straight DIY video going forwards. Glad the hear that your taking care of the old Volvo 😃
Hope you got it sorted...after all the effort you put into it
I hope so to. Soon I will pull out the engine and have a look.
Your air intake HAS TO BE RUN OUTDOORS!
Please explain why that is
@@BackmansGarage While it is a small heater, the combustion air going into the heater has to come from somewhere. For a simple example. Let's say the exhaust blows 1 cu ft per minute to the outside. That 1 cu ft goes into the air intake for combustion. That 1 cu ft is drawn in from the indoor space and has to be replaced through the leaks in the building. It also exposes the room to the ignition and flame of the heater. Probably not an issue unless something flammable leaked in the space. The real old house furnaces just had a metal flue pipe. Then as efficiency of furnaces came up to 90% and more, They have 2 plastic pipes, intake and exhaust. Purpose being to not draw cold air into the house to replace the air used for combustion. It's not that big of a deal with the small size of the heater. But 1 year ago it would have been east making 2 holes. Happy Holidays.
@km0e69 Thank you for the detailed explanation of how you are thinking. I agree that pulling the intake air from the outside would be better and most of all, safer. I haven't done it because of concerns that the heater wouldn't take the damp cold air well, but now that there are so many people using this heater it doesn't seem to be any concern to be too worried about. Im a little bit worried of an backdraft situation where the heater goes out and starts flowing the unburnt diesel fumes and smoke out the intake and into the room. It could happen as it's setup right now and I also have exhaust fans on from time to time that doesn't make it better of a situation. I have plenty of ventilation holes for air to come into the garage, Its 2x 100mm right now, but if they were working properly (closed in wintertime) it would absolutely make the situation worse 😄 So what I'm trying to say is that, it works for me right now as everything is, but once it's all fixed and working properly with the building (tight garage door, automatic vents etc), yes an intake would be a requirement for safe use. Haven't thought about this in this detail before, thanks for pointing that out. 👍
@@BackmansGarage You get your air for combustion from cracks around doors and windows and so on. You can't pull your living space into a vacuum, so what goes out must come in. Similar to the old house furnace that just had a chimney, now you have higher efficiency that uses 2 plastic pipes. 1 of them being outside air for combustion which figures into that efficiency.
Domt you want dc
I would like to
11:26 Since the intake sprocket is symmetrical, the only reason I can think of for aligning it's top marking with the notch in the cover is so the 3 bolt holes line up with the hub behind it! But that could be done just by looking!
I'm replacing the front seals on both cams and the exhaust VVT unit ($300) because I didn't change the oil like I should have. One thing that I haven't heard mentioned on VVT-related videos is the key role of the VVT solenoid. It's the interface between the car's electronic ignition system and the cam timing. We (mechanics) have to get the cam and crank timing close, and then the computer/solenoid system does the fine tuning. The solenoid works by varying the amount of oil pressure sent to the VVT unit which in turn controls how far it advances or retards the camshaft. I ruined mine prematurely because the dirty oil damaged the internals of the VTT unit.
You may be dealing with a cold start injector problem. It looks like it's injecting too much fuel which washes the oil off the cylinder leading to the cylinder stuffing. I don't think it should have been so wet when you first used the camera and that knock on startup may have been it hydraulicing in the quince area. I hope this helps. BTW it's a good looking engine and you seemed to be pretty thorough.
This engine doesn't have cold start injector, but you are correct. It did inject too much fuel due to a bad (new) cooling temp sensor that i swapped out for an old volvo original sensor and i no longer have the super rich startup problem. The knock continues to this day and over 10000km later, it comes and goes without any consideration of cold/hot condition. Im back to thinking it has something to do with oil pressure, that i sometimes sporadically have it drop down to low. Will take the engine apart soon and fins out now that i have a new daily driver. Thanks for commenting.
You are way over selling
@@kylewarning347 Interesting, tell me more why you think that.
ORRR.. you could've just bought a volvo 850 and had this powerplant already figured out for you, and just in general, overall, a better chassis/car.
If I wanted a generally better overall chassis / car i should probably should have bought an E46 M3 or something. This is a childhood dream, I'm a man on a mission here 😅
@BackmansGarage OH an E46 M3? so you like broken subframes and oil leaks.. man, you're a glutton for punishment it seems? btw, my brother had a 2001 M3 and i beat it with my T-5R.. learn your stuff
@@BackmansGarage a 740 is a 'childhood dream' lol.. way to aim high
@@BackmansGarage btw, thanks for erasing my prev comments
It's just an example, all brands/models have their issues ofc. And if you're trying to make me believe a Bmw M3 E46 would loose any type of race to a stock 850 t5r, well it just simply would not.
Mine just arrived, and I can't wait to try it!
Hope you'll be satisfied with it 👍
Use B vent pipe (double wall )
yeah, let me pay $100 for a diesel heater and $220 for someone to connect red to red and black to black, awesome advice dude
Gotta say what i gotta say, there are guidelines to this.
Clean off snow before you bring it in.
Bet it ran a whole lot better afterwards 👍
Hello, how much is the price of a Volvo 740 engine piston, size 89 mm?
In this case about 70usd
$70 for one or four
@hichamhgd5533 I looked it up now. And today the price is 150usd per piston complete with rings and pin.
Ya, I wanna see you use it on the exhaust manifold studs / nuts. If it saves breaking one off in the head, it's worth the cost of the tool.
Ill se what i can do.
Where is the result? :(
What result are you looking for?
So these flames weren't a CGI after all 😅
I wish I was that good 😅
nice to have. this device looks suspiciously similar to my Kunzer 6.3 (1000W). I guess the fan starts instantly because you are supposed to let it - the fan - run after usage for some minutes - and they didn´t fit a thermoswitch. Mine behaves the same way.
Probably something along those lines in this one as well. Never noticed it running hot tho, the air from the fan never really got hot. The light is supposed to turn yellow if it gets to hot tho ive never gotten it that far.
I use a sievert burner it works well and you don't need electricity or by a tool for that much money. Yes it is a great tool but I rather spend that money on someting more fun.
True, I've managed fine for 15 years. But I think I will reach for this one more often than the sievert from now on, at least on rusted hardware.
good tools, use 1 year
Been very happy with everything so far 👍
Can you provide details on your exhaust setup?
