For pressing in the crank and auxiliary shaft seals I was able to heat up a pvc pipe and expand it to the correct size by pushing it over a flared piece of metal. Yours look like they pressed in properly but I know that the seals can be finicky so I thought I would put that out there for anyone else doing this. Also only buy an oem seal for the auxiliary shaft unless you want to replace it multiple times
Very nice video. I think Volvo calls the "chest plate" the lower front timing cover. When installing the oil pump and the oil pump gear, I usually install a re-enforcing ring around this collar / junction to make sure that the tab on the oil pump gear does not shear off inside the oil pump drive.
Yeah, its probably called the timing cover even tho it doesent cover any timing gear unlike the B20 engine 😀 Never heard of this ring before, might be something to look into before I turn up the power. 👍

Can't wait to start on my own car. I was an lucky.boy and bought an 531 head for 20€. Later this year will get another car and then my 940 is going to get an overhaul!
And i think that is really weird since it's a very popular engine 😄 It is a vw engine so maybe try to look for videos about vw's restorations? Idk, but I would like to have a go at a D24T some day just to find out what all the fuzz is about 😄
I was just recently manual swapping my 240. While I was in there I decided to replace the rear main housing gasket and rear main seal as well as the oil pan gasket. To my surprise the rear main housing had no gasket. It wasn't leaking either, but it was like that for a long time. Made me sick to my stomach.
Tack!
Most people think that they are frost plugs and pop out if the block starts to freeze....not the case as they are casting holes and you should use some sort of sealant before putting new ones in ...although they might look fine on the outside they do rust from the inside out .....also although I really appreciate these type of helpful videos sometimes I do wish when people reassemble pullies please specify weather it's a left or right hand bolt thread as I got caught out before with this ...
the more i look into these the less hard it seems to do this. i am no mechanic but i feel with some time and a little help i can rebuild a 240 engine. i think ill be buying one this year for me and my daughter to restomod
Sure, I think many of the fb blocks have oil cooling also. But you might want to swap in some dished turbo pistons first. And the 531 head is a nice bonus on the fb as well.
What an awesome vid again! Just wondering, why did you use a harmonic balancer instead of a billet pulley? I thought the rubber of the harmonic balancer can't handle a lot of horsepower?
Excellent video, really world class commentary and camera work.
Thanks 👍

You can put some oil on the oil filter gasket. That will make sure that always is gonna come down the filter :)

maybe oil return seal 0:40
Probably , that was the first thing i swapped to AN fitting 😁

This series makes me wish my meager college student budget was enough to treat my 91 945 t with the respect it deserves.
Svinbra video!
Awesome video 😄 you should do a full rebuild of D24tic too for me im gonna need a step by step video soon and there is none in youtube or forums😂😂

So someone had used silicone gasket on it or was it just metal on metal?
@@BackmansGarage no silicone or anything it was metal on metal I couldn't believe my eyes.
så jävla bra alltså, längtar till nästa

True, i think i said frostplugs on this one, but you are correct hey are actually casting holes.

No gasket for the oil pump to the block?
No, just on the oil pipe

B230 is a great start, but i would recommend the B20 engine as a first build :)
Your command of the English language is superb! Have you lived in the States or Canada?
Yes, USA 2000-2003. Will probably do a special @ 10k subs about all of that stuff. 👍
realy nice video, i have a b230fb you think it's ok to turbo it?
Sure, I think many of the fb blocks have oil cooling also. But you might want to swap in some dished

@@BackmansGarage ok thanks you a lot
What an awesome vid again! Just wondering, why did you use a harmonic balancer instead of a billet pulley? I thought the rubber of the harmonic balancer can't handle a lot of horsepower?
Im not looking for alot of horsepower. 300 it will be just fine 👍

Tackar 👍
If that's not the high flow oil pump, go buy one.
Definitely better with the original Volvo oilpump, its by far better than the aftermarket ones.
@@Ghettochappy Volvo offers two different pumps, standard flow and high flow. High flow Part# 1346144,
I think it was an hi flow typ of pump.
