I'm currently collecting the parts to do the exact same engine rebuild. Just watched the entire series, and probably will while rebuilding it as well. Thank you for these detailed videos! You've got yourself a new sub. Greetings from Holland
Thanks for the great video series. Hope to see more. One note, the round belt cam and aux shaft gears have different backspacing. Just ran into this one that the belt wasn't tracking right one. They have different 3-digit part numbers stamped on the 'spokes'.
@@BackmansGarage Yes, round tooth only. The cam gear should have 032 stamped on it. The aux shaft gear 751. My engine had 2 aux gears and the belt was riding on the front edge of the gear. There is a 2mm difference in backspacing between the 2.
If they are stock pulleys, the cam pulley is slightly taller than the aux shaft pulley, as in the teeth are spaced out slightly further from the pulley mating surface.
I just love your series, i am currently moving into a new workshop. For my next project i intend to get an Amazon and either go for a heavy modified B20 or follow your example and go for a 230 route. You are an excellent teacher, very clear video's, great help for prefun planning. p.s. would it be possible for you to provide a shopping list of all the parts you procured, it would be a good starting point for other people. Many thanks in advance.
Thanks! B20 is definantly close to my heart, just the sounds and smells of it. Not the most reliable in today's traffic tempo, but a good choice for the soul. B230 potent, reliable, tons of aftermarket support and easy to install/modify, cheap. But the sound from it is really not to my taste. I've always wondered how it would feel to put a T4 engine into an Amazon, it kindof takes the soul away but as far as power to weight and overall size, should be a great fitment. But dual weber carbs on a b20 coupled with the M40 gearbox with the long stick 👌👌 hard to beat. Yeah, the B230 project isn't over yet, I just want to find out what the noise from the engine is before I continue. It will be disassembled this fall again if everything lines up the way I have planned. But will definantly will put in some kind of shoppinglist when everything is in order 👍
Thank you so much for these videos. I'm going for my first engine swap going from a B21F to a B230FT I'm tearing down now, these high quality videos will be watched over and over. Feeling so overwhelmed but this helps a ton!
Your content has helped me a lot. been a massive volvo fan for years, got my own transport company en got som newer volvo's but more recently been digging in to a 940 turbo en starting a NA 240 b230f build for cruissin. your videos has helped me out a lot from the smal maintance to the bigger how to's so thanks en keep it up 👍
Thanks! Yeah, I have never been satisfied with how this engine has run since I bought it. I really thought this would fix that, among other things, but I guess it's an electrical issue, maybe. 😄
The wrinkle paint it actually bedliner with sand in it 😄 4Kg worth. The valvetrain is ded quiet when the hood is closed 👍 Not everybody's cup of tea but I'm looking to use it on the exterior as well 😃.
What brand torque wrenches do you use? I'm planning to do engine rebuild too and I can't deside wich ones to buy. Your videos are great, and as finnish person I like that I can easily undestand your speech, because you articulate kind like us.
Thanks :) The wrenches are basically a no name brand from Verktygsboden. They come with a calibration chart and certificate but its nothing i would recommend unless you are on a somewhat tight budget. Looks like they dont sell the same model anymore, but its something along these lines :) verktygsboden.se/hand-elverktyg/handverktyg/hylsverktyg/momentnycklar/momentnyckel-38-20-100nm?att=TW9tZW50bnlja2VsIDMvOCwgMjAtMTAwTm0=
That first startup was epically perfect. Quick start and runs smooth. Nicely done.
Thanks 👍

I can see you put a lot of effort and talent into the editing, certainly does not go unnoticed.

Thank you for watching and finding it useful 😀👍
Dont worry. 500 Km and its sound will be smooth
Very good work for amazing driver's pleasure. Congratulations from 940turbo owner!

Oh really? Thats news for me. 😄 So this is just for the roundtooth and not for the square ones? Thanks, will look into this 👍

Yes, i have gotten a comment on this earlier. Will make sure to include that in an upcoming video👍

Thansk you for finding it useful :) and good luck with your project. 👍
Nice job, looking forward to the next episode 👍
Great video really enjoyed this! Wish my 940 engine looked so nice aha

really cool video series. love the way you calmly explain the different parts and aspects of building an engine
Great video. Hopefully you can get the engine running as smooth as you want.

Flot arbejde
fantastisk
Tackar 👍
Oh the seatbelt clicking noise. You make me wanna buy a volvo again
It the best sound 😄
Oh yeah starts right up
yeah man!
Wish I could be there to help put it back together. But, my days of staying up all night to finish a project are long behind me.
Good work! Are you sticking with the original ECU or willl you use aftermarket engine management?
Not entirely sure atm 😄
Congrats
Excellent work, has the Swedish government set a date for the phase-out of IC engines?
Thanks.
I have no idea, the Swedish government don't know left from right. It's like being on a ship without a rudder...
@@BackmansGarage Likewise in Australia, cheers.

Heck yeah, lookin good. Not a fan of the wrinkle black engine bay though. What ya doin for exhaust system? She sounds pretty quiet! 🤙

as much as i personally love doing janky shit, i appreciate how you havent. props
Perfectly done! How many hours did you invest to work it all over?
Oh, im still not done. But maybe on and off for 3-4 weeks?
I'd like to know more about the random shoe on the floor in the background 😅
You are gonna need to provide me with a timestamp :D
Is there a particular reason you went with a SOHC instead of DOHC like the B234?
The b234f is not a b230fk, this is just not an engine swap build 🙂
And if you want my opinion I think the 8v is better than the 16v anyways :)
and next question is what the number of torque bearing nuts and cylinder head of B230f 1990 thanks for your answer
Their should be a a letter with specs that goes with your head gasket of choice 👍
hello .at the end why returqued cylinder head ?
Because it settles after a heat cycle 👍
what rims are on the car?
Some 80's rial wheels, cant remember right now. Think they are stamped 1986 👍
at what point do you set the timing?
The timing is set by the ECU and is not adjustable mechanically. Thanks.
