Tarja is the reason most of us got into Nightwish. Anette is why others jumped on the train. Floor is why all of us remained. And Marco is still the best singer in Nightwish.
I think nowdays Floor is the main reason why most of the fans get involved with Nightwish, because the fanbase is growing rapidly. And I can understand that. Floor raised the bar and so did Nightwish.
This was another mesmerizing performance by Nightwish. Marco is officially my favorite metal singer! I listened to this song a few more times since making this video and it was actually moving. They are phenomenal. Not the last song but the last concert. Phantom was fairly early in the setlist. The actual last song Tarja sang with the band was "I Wish I Had An Angel" at the end of this concert.

I've been a huge fan of this amazing band and especially of Tarja for many many years now, I just love her voice, her persona, well... basically everything about her, haha! Tarja's expressive, dark powerful voice, her persona as well and her renditions have always given me goosebumps all over my body, bringing tears to my eyes every time I hear her voice and touching the depths of my soul!! 😍 Nightwish's music and Tarja are such two great inspirations to me, no matter who is the singer (btw, I love the band with all three singers they had and think they're amazing in their own ways [first Tarja, then Anette and now Floor], all of them contributed in different and very important ways that helped them grow as a band and develope their own original style within the aesthetics of symphonic metal)! But I followed more closely Tarja's solo career after she was fired from Nightwish back in 2005 (this concert, End of an Era, was actually their last concert together... and btw Tarja was very sick, she didn't even know if she could perform that night... well, it was literally the end of an era, so it's kind of sad really, but in the end I think it was the best, both for the band and especially for Tarja, for she built her own solo career with much more freedom than she had, she's much happier, can compose and write her own songs, sing however she wants to, play piano and just fully express herself, being the incredibly talented artist she is!) 😍 So I think you'd also love to hear some solo works of Tarja's, some that can show even more of her power, the emotions she's capable of delivering, the technical control of her voice and the amazing creative artist she is. 2024 Marko & Tarja are touring together and sang phantom of the opera for the first time in 18 years since the end of the era concert as Nightwish didn't perform the song again until Floor's performance in 2023.
If I don't remember wrong this was Tarja's last show with Nightwish before being fired from the band, and still to this today this song is a song they don't play, since this song above other songs is Tarja's SONG😉
Wasnt quite her last song with them, but this was the last gig. Last song was Wish I had an Angel, as it always was the finisher back then :) The extra emotion from the other band members, like Jukka's head in his hands, is they all knew it was her last performance, but she didnt.

There is this duality he cultivates with this male-female roles of seducer and seduced, good and evil, and Phantom of the Opera is one of the songs in the theme. Check where you can spot angel in Nightwish images (for example: Once-album cover, End of an Era -album cover, Amaranth song, Sleeping Sun remake music video..). Now you get what is behind the song "I Wish I had an Angel" and why it was Tarja's last. There's plenty of hidden in Nightwish lyrics that people don't get at all, if they don't know what to look for. Tuomas knew he would fire Tarja after "Once" album, and the album cover and the songs tell that. For example, possibly Tarja's most popular song "Nemo" is about the break up and how Tuomas feels about it... but people think it is just about being lost.

But one of the other reasons why they chose this song to cover, was that the album at that time, "Century Child", had songs on it, that when you add the duality context you mention, does tend to have a slight hint of a G-rated type BDSM. When you think about it, Phantom of the Opera is basically about how Eric (the Phantom) is doing all he can to make Christine sing more and higher and higher. He does more, and she goes higher. He tells her to sing, and she does. The Phantom is the seducer, the singer is the seduced. The Phantom is evil (he actually kills someone in the musical), the singer is good. with that duality, the song really does fit Nightwish, which is why it made a good song for them to cover.

Some songs are best when sung by Tarja, and the "Phantom" is one of them. From the same End of an Era concert I recommend "Slaying the Dreamer", "The Siren", and "Sleeping Sun". Also, you have the cutest smile!
So glad you reacted and liked this song! this is my favourite live performance from Tarja era, since it showcases the best of that era in their peak form... Well, maybe not Emppu, who was on fire on early Nightwish era, but didn't have a big role in this particular song For a beautiful song from the very start of Nightwish, from their 2nd demo album actually, Angel's fall first. I would recommend studio versions for most of Tarja era songs, since their live shows didn't have that amazing mixing and audio quality as the more modern Floor videos, and Tarja was really saving up her voice in live performances and using less amazing but safer singing techniques when performing live. In those days before youtube was as big of a thing as it is now, making the crowd enjoy the show was more important than getting a perfect audio performance However, this Phantom of the Opera was one of the big exceptions, where this live performance is actually 1000x better than their studio version, and has different composition as well
Interestingly, whilst I realize Nightwish is a very talented band, their music doesn't move me as it does you. What I DO enjoy though is watching YOU enjoying it so much! You're so fortunate to be able to spin gold out of straw that way! :o) You seem like you'd be a lot of fun to spend time with. You'd be a good VJ for MTV or such!

The vocalist Tomi Joutsen growls but has also a great velvety clean voice. I saw Amorphis 3 nights, different setlist each night, in a row a couple of weeks ago and I was impressed. Another one I like is Steve'n'Seagulls, lol the name of their 1st album was "Brothers in Farms", saw them too June 27th at Allas Sea Pool, you may not know about the sea pool, it's quite new, near Kauppatori ja Presidentinlinna. Gonna see them again in two weeks in Kulttuuritalo. They play mostly covers of heavy classics, but with a totally different style, genre, don't want to reveal more. Their biggest hit is the AC/DC cover "Thunderstruck". It has 111M views on YT, and thousands of comments, 99% praising, asking when are you coming to my home country. I really hope I get the chance to talk to them again. I had a long talk with them at Allas, they are the nices of people, and funny, but skillful musicians above all. You reaction videos are so popular, that when I'm a little late, there is a hundred comments already. That's great! It was a pleasure to see your reaction to The Phantom by Nightwish in Helsinki 2005. This song is perfect for Tarja's operatic style vocals, but Marko - his vocals were something else. After a throat surgery, that went wrong. That was before he joined Nightwish in 2001. Jukka was propably suffering from migraine. When they were playing their tribute to Pink Floyd "High Hopes", (fantastic vocals by Marko, and performance be all of the guys.) Jukka seed to be suffering, Tuomas tiltid his head slightly, signalling to Emppu he should go and check up on Jukka. I really love Marko's vocals in general, but "The Islander" Tampere 2015 shows how good his clean vocals are. His own composition, lyrics by Tuomas. You commented Tuomas' looks. I told you about me taking pictures for my ID card, and I realized then my facial hair is pretty much like that of Tuomas. Great choice of Nightwish songs, the very best of them if you ask me. Tarja and Marko blew it open :D My suggestion for your next finnish song reaction, I have actually two suggestions, here: 1. Teräsbetoni - Taivas Lyö Tulta (great choice of lyrics and singer did his best for sure) 2. Vesa-Matti Loiri or Suvi Teräsniska I think - Varpunen Jouluaamuna (best finnish song ever to me, and this after me liking stuff like Kreator - Enemy of God!) So yeah :) those two suggestions, both finnish lyrics obviously, I bet you understand their meaning well, so I think you might really enjoy them. Is all. People often overlook Tarja, "Floor is the best," as such nonsense. I love Floor, but realise Tarja made the band infamous mezzosoprano in the beginning. Without her, Nightwish would not be as big, nor Floor wouldn't be in the band, now. As a military person stationed in Europe in the late 1990's, she was the reason, the first impression if you will, of the band. She is also the reason I stopped following the band, because of her firing. Annette never gave me the "Nightwish Sound" I craved until Floor joined. Tarja was probably the inspiration for many of Heavy Metal singers of the 2000's, including Floor. From what I understand, they are friends. Anyways, this track and "I wish I had an Angel" from the same concert are my favourites by her. Floor nails "Ghost Love Score" though.

He's one of the pioneers of Finnish metal, founding Tarot with his brother in 1982
Also, in 1995 he went through a polyp removal surgery, but the doctor botched the surgery, lost his voice for two weeks and lost some octaves, too, so he had to learn to sing "around" those octaves

2024 Marko & Tarja are touring together and sang phantom of the opera for the first time in 18 years since the end of the era concert as Nightwish didn't perform the song again until Floor's performance in 2023.
If I don't remember wrong this was Tarja's last show with Nightwish before being fired from the band, and still to this today this song is a song they don't play, since this song above other songs is Tarja's SONG😉

Wasnt quite her last song with them, but this was the last gig. Last song was Wish I had an Angel, as it always was the finisher back then :) The extra emotion from the other band members, like Jukka's head in his hands, is they all knew it was her last performance, but she didnt.

There is this duality he cultivates with this male-female roles of seducer and seduced, good and evil, and Phantom of the Opera is one of the songs in the theme. Check where you can spot angel in Nightwish images (for example: Once-album cover, End of an Era -album cover, Amaranth song, Sleeping Sun remake music video..). Now you get what is behind the song "I Wish I had an Angel" and why it was Tarja's last. There's plenty of hidden in Nightwish lyrics that people don't get at all, if they don't know what to look for. Tuomas knew he would fire Tarja after "Once" album, and the album cover and the songs tell that. For example, possibly Tarja's most popular song "Nemo" is about the break up and how Tuomas feels about it... but people think it is just about being lost.

But one of the other reasons why they chose this song to cover, was that the album at that time, "Century Child", had songs on it, that when you add the duality context you mention, does tend to have a slight hint of a G-rated type BDSM. When you think about it, Phantom of the Opera is basically about how Eric (the Phantom) is doing all he can to make Christine sing more and higher and higher. He does more, and she goes higher. He tells her to sing, and she does. The Phantom is the seducer, the singer is the seduced. The Phantom is evil (he actually kills someone in the musical), the singer is good. with that duality, the song really does fit Nightwish, which is why it made a good song for them to cover.

So glad you reacted and liked this song! this is my favourite live performance from Tarja era, since it showcases the best of that era in their peak form... Well, maybe not Emppu, who was on fire on early Nightwish era, but didn't have a big role in this particular song
For a beautiful song from the very start of Nightwish, from their 2nd demo album actually, Angel's fall first. I would recommend studio versions for most of Tarja era songs, since their live shows didn't have that amazing mixing and audio quality as the more modern Floor videos, and Tarja was really saving up her voice in live performances and using less amazing but safer singing techniques when performing live.
In those days before youtube was as big of a thing as it is now, making the crowd enjoy the show was more important than getting a perfect audio performance
However, this Phantom of the Opera was one of the big exceptions, where this live performance is actually 1000x better than their studio version, and has different composition as well
You pronounce the Finnish words and names (e.g. Tarja, Tuomas) really well!

Amorphis "Death of a King" (Official Video) would be a nice one. The vocalist Tomi Joutsen growls but has also a great velvety clean voice. I saw Amorphis 3 nights, different setlist each night, in a row a couple of weeks ago and I was impressed.
Another one I like is Steve'n'Seagulls, lol the name of their 1st album was "Brothers in Farms", saw them too June 27th at Allas Sea Pool, you may not know about the sea pool, it's quite new, near Kauppatori ja Presidentinlinna. Gonna see them again in two weeks in Kulttuuritalo. They play mostly covers of heavy classics, but with a totally different style, genre, don't want to reveal more. Their biggest hit is the AC/DC cover "Thunderstruck". It has 111M views on YT, and thousands of comments, 99% praising, asking when are you coming to my home country.
I really hope I get the chance to talk to them again. I had a long talk with them at Allas, they are the nices of people, and funny, but skillful musicians above all.

It was a pleasure to see your reaction to The Phantom by Nightwish in Helsinki 2005. This song is perfect for Tarja's operatic style vocals, but Marko - his vocals were something else. After a throat surgery, that went wrong. That was before he joined Nightwish in 2001.
Jukka was propably suffering from migraine. When they were playing their tribute to Pink Floyd "High Hopes", (fantastic vocals by Marko, and performance be all of the guys.) Jukka seed to be suffering, Tuomas tiltid his head slightly, signalling to Emppu he should go and check up on Jukka.
I really love Marko's vocals in general, but "The Islander" Tampere 2015 shows how good his clean vocals are. His own composition, lyrics by Tuomas.
You commented Tuomas' looks. I told you about me taking pictures for my ID card, and I realized then my facial hair is pretty much like that of Tuomas. I strongly deny I'm trying to look like him, though I am a fan of his. lol

My suggestion for your next finnish song reaction, I have actually two suggestions, here:
1. Teräsbetoni - Taivas Lyö Tulta (great choice of lyrics and singer did his best for sure)
2. Vesa-Matti Loiri or Suvi Teräsniska I think - Varpunen Jouluaamuna (best finnish song ever to me, and this after me liking stuff like Kreator - Enemy of God!)
So yeah :) those two suggestions, both finnish lyrics obviously, I bet you understand their meaning well, so I think you might really enjoy them. Is all. Thanks for the great content! :)

People often overlook Tarja, "Floor is the best," as such nonsense. I love Floor, but realise Tarja made the band infamous mezzosoprano in the beginning. Without her, Nightwish would not be as big, nor Floor wouldn't be in the band, now. As a military person stationed in Europe in the late 1990's, she was the reason, the first impression if you will, of the band. She is also the reason I stopped following the band, because of her firing. Annette never gave me the "Nightwish Sound" I craved until Floor joined. Tarja was probably the inspiration for many of Heavy Metal singers of the 2000's, including Floor. From what I understand, they are friends. Anyways, this track and "I wish I had an Angel" from the same concert are my favourites by her. Floor nails "Ghost Love Score" though.
