    Shawn I just started learning to play golf last summer. My natural grip is the same as Sav’s and when my buddy I play with saw my grip he was like you need to fix your grip. So I tried lol. Watched hours of videos on UA-cam and this only made my grip worse. Until I watched a video with someone saying to swing YOUR swing. So that’s what I did, went back to swinging MY swing and things clicked for me. I didn’t come across your videos until the fall but I’m glad I have they are incredibly helpful. Also I think it’s great that you use a sledge hammer as a training aide…I swung a sledge hammer for a living for about five years and I’m pretty sure that’s where my grip comes from. You cannot fight your bodies mechanics when swinging an 8 pound hammer for day in and day out. You would instantly hurt yourself. IMO the conventional swing mechanics if golf being taught are some of the most unnatural feeling body movements I’ve ever tried to force myself to do.
    Keep up the awesome work and thank you Shawn, Sav, and Mu, you guys are awesome!

      Yeah man! You are absolutely spot on in your comment and let’s finally turn the tide on all those neutral grip-face square thinkers out there who are far more worries about how you look than actual functionality, power and consistent accuracy of the swing!

    I just wanted to thank you Shawn, I can't golf often because I'm always in pain. Mostly my legs and back for the last 42 years but arthritis is now a factor. I went to play a round the other day after trying to hit at the range. I was hitting way before the ball or topping it and couldn't get any timing in my swing and was leaving my clubface way open.
    Yesterday I went back to the range with the goal of finally trying your way, I made my grip strong and after 3 balls I was hitting my 9 iron around 160 carry when I really went after it and it was going straight.
    I hit my 7 iron to 205 once. My 3wood went 260 carry and dead straight.
    I need to figure out the video feature on the swingcaddy my kids got for me a couple years ago so I can take some vids to post to show people that I works. I have never been able to hit straight because my arms wanted to it it like I would a baseball bat but my brain said no hit it like the golf guys on youtube say. I'm glad I found your channel but wish I would have followed your advice a long time ago.
    I hurt myself but it was worth it to have some fun at the range with all the young "in shape guys" watching and old fat guy slam a 3 wood past their drivers. You made a 57 year old disabled guys year

    Happened on to your channel today. Very interesting, and it made a lot of sense. I am an avid senior golfer, and I am going to give this a try. When I was young, I had a strong grip and played well. After family and career, I started taking the game really seriously and I have a neutral grip, and a nine handicap. Your lesson goes against what is out there and most of what I have learned. But, I have to try it, and I will let you know. For my sake, I hope it's magic.

      We have a splendid senior series on our premium channel at www.wisdomingolfpremium.com (only $9.95 per month) which is also a great overview of our teachings. Then you want to jump into the first video of the “consistency series” and then dive into the “release” videos (use the search box at the top right corner of the “list of videos by date” page) and then you dive into the “throw the club” and the “throwing series” which then begs to perfect your ability to predict how the ball gets into the way of your new power plant with “predict contact” and the “goldie locks series” and finally the “target confirmation series”
      Then send me a swing clip or 2 when you feel you have reached next level and I will point you to other series for deeper low single digit fun to get you into club champ contender status!

    Listening to this week's podcast and how thinking wrecks the game. 2 Saturday's ago I was playing in the weekend big game at my course. I shot a 35 on front 9 after birdie on the 9th hole. The first time I even thought about my score was when that birdie putt dropped. We head to 10 tee and all I can think about is my score and I promptly hit my drive about 30 yards out of bounds on #10.

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  Рік тому +2

      So before you hit the shot; you need to give yourself the best ground to plant the seed into right? What I need to focus on is where I want the ball to go and make a flight plan; then set up to match and focus on the feel of task to deliver into the flight plan that will activate the body properly. this is the latest series we are doing on premium! 👍👍

    I'm not one for "miracle" cures but decided to try this today in the golf simulator. I am 67 years of age and had been hitting my 8 iron on average 125-130 yards. After trying this hand adjustment and pushing hips slightly more to the left, I ripped the same club 148 yards without altering any other swing components. Each shot was consistent and straight even without any noticeable increase in clubhead speed but the smash factor was 1.48. Look forward to trying on the course next week. Thanks

    Super video again , I’m working with a coach just now and he has me bowing my lead wrist , it is working a bit , gained 30yards extra carry , although it does hurt when hitting ball after ball at the range and end with 1 out of 5 being a big hook . I love your method but but struggle with brace tilt and closed club face

      @golflessons  Рік тому

      Hey Graham! We are so much better than you think! When you jit a big hook, what was the last thing going through your mind before you swung and what was the effort level on a scale of 1-10?

  • @jamesjohnson6077
    @jamesjohnson6077 Рік тому +5

    To all who are wondering about the slices and wrists. I used this drill today and found that I didn’t have to change my grip. Just swung down into the ball like I was using a hammer on it. As long as my body turned and I made a good follow through, the ball was struck well. It felt more natural than the things I’ve tried this year. You really have to get out and try it. You have to commit to the full hammer effect and feel. If you have a swing at all it should give you the desired effect.

    I am amazed at the effortless power in Sav’s swing. I’m coming from the traditional mechanical setup and angles with a strong grip, but I struggle with solid consistent contact and speed/power. What are the speed producers in your swing method? Do you believe in the squat and post up idea to torque the ground? My go to swing model is Adam Scott. My swing looks similar but lacks speed/power. Can I keep that form and achieve power using your method or do I need to overhaul my entire swing. No disrespect intended, but your swing seems very upright and kind of “windmillish.” Thanks for your help!

    • @golflessons

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  Рік тому

      Hey Alex; I understand how the golf industry can have you brainwashed with the “must be like this” and the “be careful about that” and it’s much simpler than that: see “hit a honkin’ draw to hit straight shawn clement” and btw, you did find the underpowered video since you left a comment on it!😝😝
      Everyone is different for how closed it should be; you simply deliver your task to target and see how it flies; then when you see a pattern, you make adjustments according to YOUR NEEDS.

      Priority 1-deliver to target

    thx, great video, I just wonder if she starts with the clubface slightly open, is that correct?

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  Рік тому +1

      What is super important to understand is that you have a GRIP-CLUB RELATIONSHIP; the club face is just one part and the grip is the other 50%; they are tied at the hip! Closed face and neutral grip is the same as a square face and strong grip dynamically; she has a super strong grip with a slightly open club face to target line but square to the path and the arc; it looks open at address but it’s not. When she lets the swing go in the direction she wants to start the ball, the ball draws and that is because her grip is strong enough to begin with.

    Milo Lines is another UA-cam instructor that uses the baseball analogy and a strong grip, but advises a lot of rotation ie “swing around the corner” and has so much side bend with shoulder tilt. You and Sav’s swings are very upright with very little shoulder tilt. Do both methods work the same?

    Hi Shawn,

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  Рік тому

      So many golfers are stuck HITTING AT THE BALL which causes a premature release of the club and causes hooks. We collect the ball from where it lies and we release the ball into the direction we want to start it and thus we deliver THROUGH THE BALL instead of “at” the ball. You want to confirm that you are through the ball first and then if you see a pattern of hooks, then your grip is too strong.

    Honest question…You don’t think this makes you too wristy/handsy? Seems like the clubface would move a ton (all the way open to all the way closed through a small area at impact). I’m not a great golfer (8 handicap) so I am trying to learn more, scared to lose control(my strength in golf), but would love the power(my weakness). Been cutting those dandelions for years! Great info!

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  Рік тому +1

      Hey Joel! Your human anatomy has a built in memory around all joints; there is a limited range of motion in all of them for a reason😝So you don’t fall around and slither like a snake all over the place. So once your grip is in place and you deliver your dandelion stem with full abandon in the direction you want to start the ball, just observe the flight! If you see a pattern of too much curving left or curving right, make the adjustment in the grip and club face (the grip is round for that reason) and then back to the task to target you go until you like what you see and just continue to get good and that task with freedom and abandon! The glue that golds it all together is the DIRECTION YOU SEND THE STEM OF DANDELION MUST BE STAYED WITH TO THE FINISH!!

    Ciao Shawn,
    I am effectively trying to use a really strong grip with four visible knuckles. I have a question for clarification. Should the left arm remain straight in relation with the shaft or should the club create a 15/20 degree angle to the right of the left arm? In the first case, I feel that my latissimus dorsi and left deltoid become toned... in the second case, everything is relaxed and the left grip slides a little more on the fingers than the initial umbrella grip with the hands very forward. Which of the two approaches should I focus on and work on?
    Thank you.f

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  5 місяців тому

      It is more like a “grip-club” relationship; can have square face and very strong grip- closed face neutral-closed face strong like Ryan Fox and Ryan Moore; what ever it takes to get the ball to do what you want in the air when you release in that direction!

  • @glennjacobs6893
    @glennjacobs6893 Рік тому +4

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  Рік тому

      Hi Glenn! See “delofting through proper tilt shawn clement” an oldie but goodie; we have average -5 angle of attack on irons and +5 average on driver and + or - 1 with fairway woods and hybrids. Simply put: we adapt the task to the shot required for maximum shot efficiency. THE STRONG GRIP, ADJUSTED TO EACH INDIVIDUAL, IS WHAT ALLOWS YOU TO MOVE THROUGH THE BALL AND I TO THE FLIGHT PLAN SEAMLESSLY to make the ball the PRECISE INTERSECTION on the way to the destination and not THE destination itself; which would be utter chaos and the mess the vast majority of golfers are in and the fuel added to this chaos is a numpty teaching neutral grip and square face and telling you to go deeper with the wrist bow…
