That spicy pimpkin jam (lady was talking to someone in Serbian) saying that it goes as (google translate:attachment) with meats and hard cheeses.
You should try Česnica a serbian dish
specific for Xmas!
Enjoy Balkan food guys🇷🇸🔥🍾🍝🍡
Please guys visiting Serbia you hafto try fruit and veg straight off the tree .
Especially orchids of cherries , watermelon and my favourite the mulberry or in Serbian " Murva ".
You can't get those specialties cheaper, they are practically organic and homemade. The pumpkin specialty goes with roasted meat, not with bread.

Greetings to my Serbian neighbours from Albania. Kosmet should never create animosity between us.
Serbia and Albania relations were never actually bad, there were just "supposed" ethnic tensions because of Kosovo Serbs and Albanians but there was never anything actually explicitly bad between Serbia and Albania as countries. As for the two countries, the agreement of open balkans was signed between these 2 and Macedonia so the relations between these subjects is only going to get stronger and more connected.

Autumn is the Ajvar season. The smell of grilled pepper everywhere.
Serbian hospitality is great and they are very funny!!
I love the look of that market, especially with the buildings in the background and guy playing chess there randomly, it has a really dystopian feel to it.
Good observation, as we in Serbia are living in the developed countries's people dystopia.
Homemade and industry ajvar is so different filing.
Ја одбијам да једем ајвар који се купује у маркетима. Једном су ме зезнули у мензи да узмем "домаћи" ајвар и никада више.....То је увреда за ајвар.
Pozdrav iz Amerike!🇺🇸🇷🇸
Go to Kalemegdan park. There is chess tournament every day.
REALLY?! Going there ASAP thanks for this
Not official, of course, they are just retired people playing chess passionately, like those farmers on green markets in the afternoon.
@@user-wy5wq5cg6i there is no farmers on green markets especially in center of Belgrade. They are just resellers...
Very enjoyable! By the way, those are different variations of mostly the same thing but with different taste. Here is a small guide to Balkan relishes:
Zacusca (Romania) = roasted peppers + roasted eggplant + roasted tomatoes + onion
Ajvar (Serbia, N.Macedonia) = roasted red peppers + roasted eggplant
Lyutenitsa (Bulgaria, N.Macedonia) = roasted peppers + tomatoes + hot pepper + onion
Pindur (Serbia, Bulgaria, Albania, Croatia, Bosnia, N.Macedonia) = roasted red bell pepper + tomatoes + garlic
Kyopolou (Bulgaria, Turkey) = roasted peppers + roasted eggplant + roasted tomatoes + garlic
Malidzano (N.Macedonia) = roasted green peppers + roasted eggplant + garlic + mustard
This was very helpful! Thanks!
@@JetLagWarriors and its like 7 dollars a jar because its homemade and its a whole process to be honest, but its 10x better than storebought ajvar, homemade all the way
Ajvar only contains paprika.. The rest are some varieties which are similar.. But ajvar is the one and only... One love 😍😄
Hold on a minute... Ajvar with roasted eggplant?? Where did you hear about that? XD All my life we are making ajvar that contains only roasted paprika and we are roasting them on special fireplace. In Serbia is like that. We add tomatoes sometimes but eggplant, never head about it and i am making ajvar for more than 20 years....
I can imagine your faces when you discover kajmak on cevapcici or bread hahahaha ❤️❤️❤️
Wow, look at d variety of pumpkins. What a wonderful day at d market. So pleasant.
random guy in background: Zebo dođi da te guzimo malo hahah ..nice video peace and love from neighbors in Croatia !
spicy pumpkin jam !!!!!! that sound AMAZING ! we have spicy pepper jam in romania ... I SHALL GO TO BELGRADE AND BUY ME SOME ! :P
Bros more Serbian then most of us, EATING AJVAR AT THE PARK! Thats some Serbian things right there
At 6:26ish the lady said that the spicy pumpkin jam can be used with meat and hard cheeses 👍. Sounds delicious 😋
I came across a Serbian store here in Toronto between Runnymede Station and Jane station on Bloor street. I have to go back there and ask if they have that amazing pepper paste called Ivar you had with your bread and sounds so yummy!🤤😋
Yes! If you can find Ajvar go ahead and try it ! It's really yummy, it seems to go on everything
iVar is the best

Really great and interesting video, keep it up :D btw I love your enthusiasm.
I really love every single tourist of my Country, welcome and feel like you are in your hometown!!!
Greetings from Serbia 🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸😍😍😍
The J is pronounced as a Y in slavic languge, Ajvar is served with many meat dishes including Plejskavica and Čevapi. I won't say where the origin of Ajvar is as it might start an argument. It is very similar to Zacuscă in Romania but I think more peppery.
I like it with cheese too, all kinds of cheese go with it. On a nice slice of bread or pastry of your choice.
Liking your videos. I have been there 5 or 6 times now and like seeing it for the first time through someone else's eyes. Funny my serbian is horrible, and whenever I try to speak it there, they answer me in English.
You people are very lucky to have each other ☺️
Hi guys! I must say I have discovered your videos last night and was watching till 4 in the morning! Love your videos, your honest reactions, you trying to really understand the soul of the country, visiting small local places! So charming! I love it! ❤️
Well she said pumpkin spicy jam is eaten with meat and hard cheese, not with bread :) I suppose it's the same as eating cranberry jam with roast or meatballs.
Exactly.
Have you ever heard of David Boreanaz, actor from Bones( Seeley Booth) , Angel, Seal Team? Well, when he was in Belgrade he told that fruits and vegetables here have a taste like from other world,full-flavored. Not GMO.
Wow, great market with the spicy pumpkin jam and paprika, lovely fresh peppers!
Great video 💯💯💯👍👍👍👍👌👌
Congrats because you are so normal and humble. All the best!
Great video guys.
wow, i don't know what to say...great content and nice presentation. You seem like a chill dude, like i was hanging out with my buddy in the market.
Looks pretty similar to the Obor square from Bucharest where u had "The best mici" :)))
What does "Obor" mean in Romanian?

It is called "A Woman Reader".
That spicy pimpkin jam (lady was talking to someone in Serbian) saying that it goes as (google translate:attachment) with meats and hard cheeses.
we would like to go some day
So ajvar is the mashed version of the romanian baked peppers.
Yeah, we grill paprika, peel it and grind it. Then mix grinded paprika with oil, salt and chilli papers. And voíla. I got 20 jars prepared for this winter, hopefully it will be enough 😆😆😆
My gradma makes me ljutenica 🤤😁👍
Moja baka mi pravi ljutenicu 🤤😁👍
For Ajvar they 1st bake paprika, then waiting tocool off, then peel of skin. Then grind it on meat grinder then bake it again. There is alot works and thats why it cost around 5 dollars..
yummy stuff!
@@JetLagWarriors I dont know are you still in Serbia but you should try some unique foods, exampe škembici (thats i dont correct word its like bowls from sheep, and its like goulash. Or jagnjece sarmice (sarma) its sheep intestins... kavurma.... thats interesting and good foods, but there is no many restaurants made it... there is pig knees or kolenice with cabbage... I know this descriptions are awfull but u should at least check it on youtube then decide it to try or not
i love kalenic market, but 7 for a jar of ajvar seems a little steep. the problem with that market i think is that you might pay more as a foreigner sometimes. it is better to just buy what is price marked before hand so you never ask what something costs when you are obviously a foreigner.
I gained weight just by watching you two eating. You two are fantastic.
where u guys stayed everything is expensive actually the city part that is. if u go over the bridge and on some markets a bit farther from city u get less expensive stuff ^^ just a note
Every thing with chilly paste we call itu SAMBAL (Indonesian), don't we Ivana?
Thans bro and sister ..;
In Serbian its 'zakuska' also, that mean some thing smal before meal.. :)
700 for domestic ajvar was not cheap at the time, regular price would be 400-500
HI there, Thanks for the video, it’s so informative,
But just wondering which local market is this? So i could easily search it on maps and knows how to go.
Thank you very much ❤

How is this market called?

Kalenic pijaca
I think you got gypped on thay Ajvar dude. 7 dollars for a jar sounds a tad too expensive.
NO, that is a good price for home made ajvar. Even in markets, better quality ajvar goes for 6-7 USD per jar. You can find low quality ajvar for 3-4 USD.
@@justme7920 But shit
No..that is how much home made cost...there is industrial in supermarkets that is cheaper but is shit to good home made
That's a small jar
@@dzonikgYeah but...
I just love serbian food. Be sure that they don't use too much pesticides ( only approved by E.U.) artificial stuff.
11:53 I know dozens of Americans who almost exclusively eat ajvar for breakfast 😂
that look expensive 700 serbian dinars would be 6 euro for that ( is not about price is about content you would pay and the work the seller would put to made it, i don't understand why it would be so big price). They don't show prices for everything they share for sell, so is easy to trap for money tourists.
Thet's regular price. There are cheaper ajvars but not such qualty.
You got ripped off with the ajvar lol.
Invite him (THE CHESS PLAYER) to a game of Curling and he will fold like a cheap suit LOL!
JFL at Balkan people, they adore each other in the comment sections but hate each others guts in real life.
500rsd for little jar of spicy jam is a rip off... first ask for price, than buy it
ah the lady actually got those written down like a menu
@@JetLagWarriors it is the actual price of it, it's the same in the markets... but in general is too much. And I believe it's disquasting
They are probably charging you 3x because you are tourist, prices are much cheaper that that
3x!!!😲
Ajvar 7dolars heeee hee this men madt go on yeal

@@JetLagWarriors that is normal price for handmade 5-6e (kada je paprika bila jeftinija kostao je 500din sada je min 600 ne vidim u cemu je problem)
@@JetLagWarriors Do not worry, they didn't robbed you, that is normal price for real ajvar in Belgrade. I (I'm Belgrader) pay the same. Maybe in south Serbia you can find it cheeper, but in Belgrade not, If someone offers you ajvar for 300 din in Belgrade, don't take it, it's not real stuff
$ 7 for a can of tomato sauce is too much

99% of serbians first time in life see pumkin dzem on your video. Dzems are making from 20 difrent fuits in Serbia and pumkin are not one of them :))
Wrong! In my Serbian family we make pumkin jam for generations. It is not often to see it in each region, but it is not rare either.
Pa bogami, stari narod je i ovdje u Srpskoj volio jesti pecenu bundevu.Sad ne toliko.Ni blizu.Ali nije neobicno sto je neko rijesio napraviti dzem od bundeve.Da bi se zaradilo.Vec imamo tradiciju jedenja bundeve.
At first glance, it looks like a normal country. In reality, this is not the case. There is a lot of hatred and resentment from World War II and the 1990s. Due to its refusal to recognize Kosovo as an independent state, Serbia will not be never accepted in the EU. Most of them are admirers of Putin's Russia, their only ally at present. Romania has always supported them as a neighboring country, although the Romanian-Vlach community in the Timoc Valley has no rights in Serbia.
Go away.
This kind of attitude has turned you into a european pariah. Romania is the only neighbor that has supported the serbs as much as it can. Among the elts, it does not recognize Kosovo.
@horia stoica Serbia is not interested in EU integration, but it wants to receive as much money from the EU as possible during an indefinite pre-integration phase. Most likely, the next EU enlargement in the Balkans will include only Albania, Montenegro and Macedonia.
Whats EU
Russia?
The best video and funny 😂😂
