Just so you know. It counts as a soft credit check everything you renew your loan information. So cash is the way to go. I was told to change it to loan when a delivery day is already scheduled
Yea I mention this in the video as well, about the cash part anyway. My bank said it only hits you once for the credit. They said they will see you are applying for the same car in the same timeframe and will clump it together. This is to avoid someone who may be applying at different dealerships from getting hit so many times.
Hey there great informative video! I just had a question about trade in. If you get a quote from another party how do you incorporate it into your Tesla loan?
I have a delivery date if Nov 28 to Dec 31. I did load but I didn’t complete step for loan or trade in yet as my dealer said I didn’t have to yet. Is that right? The date didn’t change forward or backward. He said wait til a vin is assigned before completing.
Be aware that if you made initial order prior to the many recent price increases and you make a change in equipment or model....you will now need to pay the current pricing. I made my deal last October and my delivery date is coming in May....the car is now $7k more expensive today.
If you defer your car after you get the vin, do they hold that same car with that same vin for you to pick up at a later date or do they give that car with that vin to someone else then build you a new car with a new vin when you were ready for delivery?
@@ThimpAndThump The reason for my question is this: I was going to order a Model S Plaid but want to wait for a 2023 model, do you think I should wait to order it or order it now then defer delivery, if that's even an option. Thanks again for your help!
I ordered Tesla model 3 in 2020, and it keeps getting delayed. It is now August 2022, and it is still being delayed. Now, it says delivery August 27-September 10. Any suggestions on why I am still waiting for my car? The contract has it that I pay in cash. Even though it is the basic model 3, it still shouldn’t be 2 years to receive my car Any thoughts? That why my delivery date was getting push back to June because i didn’t not renew my loan application but I’m worried that my credit score will go down if I keep doing that every 60 days??. I order mine August 21 of last year. Thanks Cody
From my understanding there should only be one hit to your score. the scoring companies see you are shopping for cars and clump it together...at least that is my understanding.
In the Payment Method when it said "You have chosen to pay for your Tesla in full" does it means paying cash? My M3 Long range estimated delivery date is July 14, was late May. I ordered it on March 12. Thanks.
I've been debating to switch from the LR to the performance to get it sooner but do you know if they will honor the price from when I placed the order?
When I upgraded from MYLR to MYP it moved my date up by 6 months. It’s easy to find out. Just start a new order and it will give you a date. No, they will not give you the price of the MYP on the day you ordered your MYLR. If I buy laundry detergent on sale and come back a week later to return it and buy a steak, I don’t get the steak price from a week ago.
@@jpc1jpc Yeah I just talked to the local Tesla rep and they pulled my account. It's quite a price jump if I opt for the performance since it's technically a different line. So I'm sticking with my MYLR.

He will get car before August 12, 2022, but my order is transferring to October-December 2022. By my opinion the dealers sale pace in line orders to some buyers for extra money.
My M3LR has a delivery range between 13 June and 18 July. Originally the earliest date was 6 June. I'm glad the back end didn't change. A week ago I stumbled across the trade-in mileage adjustment thing. I entered the new mileage total and got a new trade-in offer the next day. I quickly accepted the new trade-in value, because it went up by $700! My question for you or anyone who can answer, is what is the average time gap between receiving the VIN number, and the actual delivery date that is assigned? I don't doubt that it's more than a couple days, but is it a week, two weeks, perhaps four weeks?
I'm so glad I watched this! I ordered a Model 3 last week but didn't enter any info about my trade in and the app said, "manage account". After watching this I cancelled the trade in and my app now says "view". You just gained another subscriber!

This was/is actually great advice. I have a June date for my Model Y LR and I did the whole financing and trade part but all that expired and the app says "Go to Account". It's been this way for a while. So far after those things expired the delivery date hasn't changed as of yet. I'm going to try and time renewing the loan and trade in portion around the 15th of April. That will have the loan portion covered up until the middle of June but I'm sure my car won't be delivered by then since it will be really close to the end of the this quarter. So Tesla may push my delivery into the beginning of July. That's going to be cutting it close because we have a planned and paid for trip coming up near the middle of July. Oh, and another thing that's going to be weird to handle is how Tesla handles credits. I ordered the Midnight Silver right before they started to include it for free so I'm hoping that they'll be in a position to credit me that back.
Placed an order yesterday and followed your process of selections no trade in or loan. The date showing right now is September 27 - November 27. Hopefully moved up after the process followed. Will add it back after the VIN is assigned.
I placed my original order for my Model LR back at the beginning of August 2021 and then changed the color from white to blue in October. Thanks to a nice sales person, the price changed only by $1K for the color. I had the order on hold until the beginning of the year. Probably because I had not completed my trade in details, nor completed the financing info, I was wondering why my delivery date kept getting pushed back to the new range of July to September. I have now rectified the situation and completed the paperwork and choose the cash option. What is interesting is that my Tesla page has now completely changed. There is now no option to update the mileage of the trade in and no option to change from cash to a loan. Will I need to contact Tesla with the details once a VIN is identified? By the way, Tesla offered a trade in for my high mileage SUV of $2K more then CarMax and Carvana.
Same thing happened to mine, I want to push my date by a couple of days or a week but I am not able to select trade in or change cash to loan, I will be calling Tesla later on to ask them to add a trade in to my account! Hopefully that works

What happens if you have a VIN and a delivery date, and decide that you want to remove FSD? I see in my order page, that I can remove it, but it says it may delay delivery. I don’t really want to change my delivery date, or even worse, have to wait on a new VIN. Just curious what happens if I decide to delete FSD so I can lower my monthly payment. Thanks!

I can do without all the other party tricks to be honest. I just want my long drives to be easier.
My advisor texted back. They said, I will not loose the VIN or delivery date, as it’s just a simple software lock. I can’t speak for anyone else or other advisors, but this came out of the Kansas City location. So, now I have a decision it make. 🤔
I don't know if this caused a 6 month delay but..... I got a call at 6pn on 3/31 offering me immediate delivery of the Model S I had on order for a month. The delivery had to occur that day (last day of the quarter) but of course there was no way to complete the cash transaction at that late hour so I had to decline. The next day my delivery date slipped from April to October!!!
Thank you so much for this video. My Order was pending b/c I didn't complete Loan & Trade-In information and was getting pushed back. Do you think its worth waiting for Austin Built Model Y with 4680 Batteries vs. getting one from Freemont? Let me know what you think?
Man I have no idea. I have been wondering the same thing for a long time but the reality is we will love the model Y knowmatter where it comes from so if I can get it sooner I am in. Who knows how long you would have to wait on that other Y.
I originally entered “loan” and “trade in”. After watching this, I took both of those off. I had never updated either the loan or trade in information. Maybe that’s why I keep getting pushed back.
Does anyone know if going into a Tesla dealership and having someone enter your order, if the sales person will follow up with you on any of the issues Cody talks about?
When I went in to test drive and decided to order, they pulled up the website and had me create an account and order. Yes, they can order for you but you need an account anyway. No, they don’t follow up. It’s no different. Important point: It’s not a dealership. You buy the car online. Tesla calls them service centers and they’re owned by Tesla, not a 3rd party like a dealership.
I need the money from my trade to be able to get the car so I'm not sure that is an option. I can't get tesla to give me a trade in value so I don't know if I will be able to get a new car.
@@CfTesla because of the accident I can't just do it online. Someone has to contact me. Tried using my phone number multiple times and then I used my email. Never heard back from them.
@@CfTesla Well, I remember it being the opposite, when Tesla first started adding this fee. They didn't want cancellations so to distract people from doing it, they would keep the fee if you cancelled. But if they changed it to where they keep the fee if you get your car, that sucks. Arbitrarily adding yet another fee is ridiculous.
Normally I would agree...and I still do but it never hurts to see what they're going to give you. I'm trading in my wife's 2010 Toyota Corolla with over 100k miles on it and they offered me a couple hundred dollars more than KBB quoted me. I think because we're in this time of global supply shortages and used cars going for more than usual they're giving you somewhat of a fair market value. The good thing is it doesn't hurt to throw everything against the wall to see what sticks...basically try all of them to see who's going to give you the best deal. Plus think of the transaction itself. Who's got an easy buyout...Tesla or someone else. You don't want to wait for your money if Tesla is giving a good offer and going to credit you right on the spot.
They offer roughly what a dealer would pay. And they don’t play games with the numbers to make it “look” like they gave you a good deal on the trade in. Tesla service centers are not dealers so they don’t sell used cars. They wholesale the trade-ins at auction. Doesn’t make sense for them to pay more than they will get. It’s simply a convenience for their customers.

They definitly do not. When you walk out the door you are on your own

I need the money from my trade to be able to get the car so I'm not sure that is an option. I can't get tesla to give me a trade in value so I don't know if I will be able to get a new car.
Really! Did you go through the trade in process and all? I got it within 24 hours.
@@CfTesla because of the accident I can't just do it online. Someone has to contact me. Tried using my phone number multiple times and then I used my email. Never heard back from them.
Tesla charged you a $100 order fee? I thought that gets refunded when you get your car and only stays if you cancel the order.
I am really not sure. It said online that it gets refunded if I cancel the order but I am not sure what happens to it if I don't cancel.
@@CfTesla The fee is deducted from the price of the car, so it goes towards the price of the car. :D

never trade in your car to tesla they will low ball you. Also pay cash u will save money in the long term
Surprisingly Tesla offered me the most out of carvana, carmax, and the local dealerships
They were the best trade in for me as well.
Would basically choose the opposite of this advice
They offer roughly what a dealer would pay. And they don’t play games with the numbers to make it “look” like they gave you a good deal on the trade in. Tesla service centers are not dealers so they don’t sell used cars. They wholesale the trade-ins at auction. Doesn’t make sense for them to pay more than they will get. It’s simply a convenience for their customers.
