I recently found out that the turtle is for resting your cutlery on, so you won’t have to rest it on the table or other surfaces 😊
Yes I found that out too after doing this video. Makes a bit of sense
Bought 2 sets for me and my husband and they are always in my purse. With COVID, we do not use restaurant utensils and have not for months since my purchase. Bought 2 more sets and sent them to my adult children. I think the kit is brilliant!
Happy you like it.
For those who know how to sharpen knives, it is possible to use needle files or small sharpening stones to sharpen the poorly serrated blade edge of the Outlery knife such that it can slice more efficiently. Also on the Outlery fork, it is possible to sharpen the blunt tip tines into pointed tip tines such that it can pierce more efficiently.
Yeah for sure. But I still think this set should come with a knife that is sharp.
@@aaronmitchelluk I agree that manufacturing process for the Outlery cutlery set should include a sharpened serrated blade edge on the knife. Other manufacturers produce sharp knives all of the time. Thank you very much for your video for revealing the details of the Outlery cutlery set. It is much appreciated.
I never heard of Outlery till I think late 2020/early 2021 through my dad when he bought a set for my mom for her birthday, Christmas or a surprise gift due to the whole pandemic. I bought a set for him for his birthday and one for myself.
Do you like them? I'm not a huge fan if I'm honest. I would much rather just stick to my racing spoon when out in the field.
Great review Aaron, especially the detail on the long spoon for a clean dip
You always want a clean dip! Hahah. Cheers mate.
Great review, thanks. Even out camping/travelling there should be room for beautifully designed and crafted stuff - so long as it works
Yeah for sure. Cheers for the comment.
Lol, doesn't really save the sea turtles if it doesn't have a straw.
Bought a set with a purple pouch 2 years ago. They serve me well!
I bought 2 for me and my partner, excited to have it ❤️❤️❤️ thanks for this video , well done :)
Ah nice one. Yeah for travel I think they're a good idea. Enjoy. Thanks!
I love mine! We have 3 sets (one for me, one for my husband and one for our son). We also bought thr chopsticks after as well as the spork. Love it all! We even use it at home where we have actual silverware 🤣
I'm not a huge fan of these and have not used it that much in the outdoors. Prefer my plastic spork. But I do keep it in the car for when I'm eating something that's not a boil in the bag meal,
Bought a set of these for each member of our family (4). They had a Mother's Day special with a free silicon case and free straw. I was already keen to buy a set to try but the special swayed me to get the four at once. I also added the spork head to each set as we often have rice based dishes when eating out.(It fits in the tin as well if you stack the heads nicely. I have knife flat, then stack fork, spoon, spork so that the curve is on top). I didn't bother with the chopsticks, maybe I'll add them later, but for use they're definitely not an essential. I think the added advantage of the silicon cover is that you know it's not going to accidentally pop open in your bag. Definitely on the slightly spendy side but they do seem to be really well made (mine all fit together perfectly), or keep an eye out for deals. I believe the little turtle is to help keep the knife blade off the table so if you're somewhere where you don't trust the cleanliness of the table, you still have somewhere to rest your knife.
Ah that's cool. Cheers for your comment. And yeah you're right, little bit pricey.
If you need a longer spoon just add another of the handle sections for that meal. Or make a long toasting fork. Enjoy.
I sacked this set off pretty quick. It's really not my go to for taking out in the field. I much prefer my racing spoon for eating out. And the knife on this is just terrible.
I’ve been wondering if the knife was sharp enough to cut through something like steak & finally got my answer. Thanks!
Yeah the knife is definitely the downside to this set. I think you would struggle with a steak. I'm happy though I answered your question.
Nice video Aaron. Background music is a lovely touch. 👍
The odd thing about the product...why include a plastic turtle? Would be great if they were as plastic free as possible. Otherwise a nice little kit and a very sincere review. Thanks!
I think it's made of the same material as the inlay of the tin. I feels like it is. Cheers anyway dude for the comment. All the best.
On their website I'm pretty sure they say the turtle is to lay your knife on so you can put it on the (potentially unclean) table without it getting dirty.
The silicon turtle is for you to place the knife or chopsticks so that they won't touch the "unclean" table.
@@christang5236 Happy days. Cheers
Pretty badass silicon cover for a not-sharp knife.. glad I just went with chopsticks?
Yeah the knife in this set is really not good.
The spoons you used are not too short, you have to turn the bag 15 %
With the top to the left or right and cut a side(with is now the top)
Hold it like this 🎫 and cut the top 😊
You can just add an extra section to the handle to make it longer. If i'm honest, I sacked this set off pretty quickly. I much prefer my racing spoon for when I'm out in the field.
A nice, concise review, thank you. I purchased a couple of sets of S+ Cutlery on Kickstarter which is a very similar product but lighter and in fewer pieces, so this review is very interesting as a comparison.
Glad it was helpful!
Pretty cool
Yeah it's not a bad bit of kit.
The turtle is also a stand for the cutlery
Yes it is. Didn't know at the time of filming.
My guess is that the turtle is to rest the cutlery on on the table.
Also, thanks for a thourough review. thumbsup
It sure is. Didn't know at the time of filming. Cheers
Are they travel friendly in carry on?
I mean, the knife is so bad I can't see how you'd do any harm. Not too sure if I'm honest. I stopped using this set fairly quickly as I wasn't a fan.
Leuk Setje
dont like the round handles for less grip when got greasy hands . square dont line up when screwed in but cant it be rounded at screw points
Also the pieces roll around on the table before the join them up.
Yeah it's not perfect but I think it wouldn't be too much of an issue
Im curious what are the materials used for the utensils? Stainless steel? Polished carbon steel? If stainless steel, what kind of stainless steel? 304? 316? 308?
SS304
No idea I'm afraid
Good video

Thanks.
Completely baffled as to why anyone camping would want this. A total faff.
Wow, how much they cost brother
£30. I didn't mention loads about price in the video.
Could I take that knife in carry on? I go backpacking overseas a lot and google doesn’t seem to have the answer. Anyone who’s (successfully or unsuccessfully) tried this? Don’t wanna pay the stupid price for this for them to take the knife off me at security 😂
Good gear, but a lot of money.. And I'd lose the bits.. Clever, but a spork is still for me please.
Yeah definite. If I'm out in the hills or the woods then a spork for me. I think it could be useful for back backers walking around towns and what not. The price does need to be drooped I feel.
LOVE this idea. I wish they had a set in copper! :)
Yeah it’s cool idea.
I like the message driving the company but nobody really wants to have to build their cutlery prior to eating…
Fair comment. I've had it for a while now and don't really use it. Prefer a cheap long handle spork
I hope you never check a really sharp knife like that , you could end up missing a part of your finger. The turtle would be the ideal rest for a pair of chopsticks.
Of course not!
Spoon-fork from ali more lighter as for me.
Happy days dude if that works for you.
@@aaronmitchelluk works good)
Spoon
Turtle goes straight to the bin, probably end up chocking a fish
It's used for resting your knife on.
@@aaronmitchelluk Hardly necessary
