Excellent review! I think I’ve reviewed every optic in this segment and this helps a ton. I appreciate all your effort. Think I’ll be ordering one very soon. Cheers!
Great review! I had the chance to look through one of these at the range and was really impressed. I love my Razor 1-10 but this one is next on my buy list.
Great video thank you. I am military and for that money that they’re asking I just checked it’s well worth it. It’s been out for a while, so it is on backstock. Nice after Christmas present very much before. Thanks again.
This is just my opinion so take this with a grain of salt BUT.... Running a piggyback rds in conjunction with an LPVO defeats the entire purpose of the platform. If you truly want that rds 1x then why ever run an LPVO but rather something like a 2x-10x that will have WAYYYYYY better glass than the LPVO.... Or the simple acog + rds. If the LPVO you're using doesn't have a usable 1x then get rid of it. If money is tight you can find pst gen 2 for mad cheap now but if money isn't an issue and you want the best 1x in the LPVO platform then go with the big 3 - Steiner p4xi / Vortex Razor Gen II 1-6x / PA PLxC.
While all these points are very valid and lvpo with a piggyback dot fills the need for me for passive aiming under night vision. Plus have a secondary sighting can be advantages
Excellent video sir. Thanks for taking your time and being so comprehensive. I ordered one of these lpvo's from Primary Arms primarily due to your excellent review of it. I do have one questions for you. What zero did you settle on?
If you had to make the purchase again would put stick with the griffin reticle or switch it to one of the raptor retitles? I’m trying to decide which one I want for my 12.5, it’s difficult
I'd stick with lower magnification on such a short rifle. You'll definitely struggle to match up with any of the BDC past 150 yards. If you HAVE to have the plxc then go with the nova reticle. Otherwise you're better off with something like a Steiner p4xi.
@@TerminalM193 the Steiner weighs about the same for less capability, why that one and not an ACOG if we’re going that low on magnification? Also, 12.5 is not a significant drop off in velocity from a 14.5. Do you have the same feelings about 14.5’s?
@@christopherkey3488 I own quite a few 5.56 chambered AR pattern rifles. Anything from 11"-20", a few 13.7 and 14.5, "14.5 is pin & weld". In my spare time I like to geek out over the three ballistic tables and when I have some spare time I like to reload the "most effective" cartridge for it's given length. I've found that when it comes to almost* all BDC reticle designs that the second you step your cartridge down from a 16" barrel, the harder it is to really follow the BDC. From my experience using a chronograph to help develop loads primarily for large feral hog dispatching and further study of the carcass for terminal ballistics is the slower the load the less likely a humane kill. I'd hate to use a 12.5" on a 200-400ibs hog on any distance past 50 yards, nomatter the bullet design. Sure feral hogs aren't 2 legged "creatures" but I atleast have a better medium to study from compared to ballistics gel. It's crazy what bone and cartilage will do to a bullet.... Anyways, the point I'm doing a horrible job trying to make is that on a 12.5" a simple rds will do. If you must have magnification then you could go the magnifier route. 90%+ of all shots made for it to be terminally effective will be 100 yards and in on such a short platform. You'll struggle to get full effectiveness through the plxc on such a platform. If you HAVE to have the plxc for your shorty then I would definitely go with the nova reticle since all other ffp options you'll struggle to properly use the BDC. If I had to give a "minimal" length to get full opportunity from the acss it would be 14.5" since with most cartridges you'll be able to match up the BDC out to 400 yards max. Personally for my needs it would live on a 16"-18" platform. But remember, I'm just some random person on the internet with a strong opinion on a given subject... We're a dime a dozen anymore. I definitely planned on starting with a red dot, aimpoint C2 to be exact because I was going to have it piggyback on an ACOG or another magnified optic anyways. My hypothesis for magnification is mainly for PID but would be used for more precise shots inside of 100 (like you talked about for the shorter barreled ar’s) and to be able to reach out to about 300 or 400 max. It’s not likely that shots at that range will be necessary, but it would give me peace of mind knowing I have the capability if I’m doing my part. I would assume that the terminal effect of 77gr otm 5.56 would severely diminish after about 150-200 yards coming from a 11.5 or 12.5 barrel but a well placed shot at further distances would most certainly do the trick but I have no idea because I have never done it. Good shit. Just curious man, what length barrel rig you have this on? I have mine on a 13.7 but havent had a chance to take it to any resl distance yet.
Two questions I’m hoping you will answer for me… 1.) which reticle would you recommend for a 12.5? Raptor Meters, Raptor Yards, or Griffin Mil like yours? I’m deciding between a TA110 and a PLXC for my magnified optic and I’ll be running an ACRO P2 on top for my 1x even though the PLXC has a very good 1x
For a 12.5 5.56, either reticle could work. The raptor is ideal for a dedicated 500 and in rifle. It’s simple fast and will get the job done. The griffin can lend itself to corrections on further shots where there’s wind. Think DMR setup. Yards and meters is just YOUR preference. Durability compared to an acog? Those things are indestructible. I couldn’t tell you that, but I bet an acog is more durable. But it also doesn’t have many of the features of the plxc. Two diff optics for diff purposes. Pros and cons man.
How would you compare it to a Razor HD 1-6? I think that would be a better comparison. You can pick them up for around the same price, and the 1x performance blows the Gen 3 out of the water. 1-10s just aren’t that great yet.
