FILM SYNOPSIS♡
In Disney's beguiling animated romp, rebellious 16-year-old mermaid Ariel (Jodi Benson) is fascinated with life on land. On one of her visits to the surface, which is forbidden by her controlling father, King Triton, she falls for a human prince. Determined to be with her new love, Ariel makes a dangerous deal with the sea witch Ursula (Pat Carroll) to become human for three days. That is true was already interested in the human world but she didn’t do anything about it till Eric so she still left her underwater kingdom for HIM even if she was already interested in the world she didn’t leave until he came around so …
Fun fact, Ariel was the only princess to have aggressive tendencies towards the villain intentionally

Ursula is iconic! Also considering Ariel’s mother was killed by humans, I understand why the king was displeased. Not saying it was right, just saying it was not out of the blue.
I wish this was covered in the original film. At least it was ammended on Broadway and the 3rd film.

Here it is, the film that pulled Disney out of it's darkest era, and into a new age of greatness. There are just so many reasons to love this movie. The characters are all great, the animation and music are gorgeous, and the songs are next level Broadway style hits. "Part Of Your World" is just beautiful, "Under The Sea" is a massive bop, and "Poor Unfortunate Souls" is still one of the best villain songs Disney has ever made.
Right? Pat was amazing, may she rest in peace. ♥
I agree “Poor Unfortunate Souls” Is a great villain song but Judge Frollo’s “Hell Fire” is such a menacing song that still gives me the chills to this day.

The little mermaid was my FAV when I was younger! I had dressed as her for Halloween and Ursula was terrifying to me. I even watched the stage play! Can't wait to see how far the Live action one goes
The ORIGINAL is ICONIC and will always be, it will always remain SUPERIOR to any remake.
The dress thing is so weird because Colleen Atwood did the costume designs for the live action movie and she's usually fantastic but she really dropped the ball here and I want to know why.

Apparently, they had more costumes planned and created, but because the movie was 90% CGI, they had to scrap a lot of the costumes.
It’s a shame too because they could have done a lot with Halle’s wardrobe in the movie. The blue dress grew on me, but that pink dress…absolutely not😭

Fun Fact: Ursula's cackle used to send chills down my spine. So, for the longest, I wouldn't watch the film and would only read books about it. 🙃🙃🙃
Ironically, she became one of my top Disney villains when I became older. Phenomenal voice acting!
Melissa performed horribly as Ursula in the live-action :( it was sad, though I will say I liked the glowing tentacles. But Pat will forever be the *real* Ursula ♥I miss her.

Ursula's design was based off Divine, the drag queen of the century, famous for songs like 'You Think You're A Man', and for famously movies that were deliberately camp and deliberately disgusting like 'Pink Flamingoes' and 'Female Trouble' (both directed by John Waters, the Pope of Trash himself) and was the original Edna Turnblad in the 1980s movie 'Hairspray' (also directed by John Waters in his first relatively tame movie) that inspired the 2000s musical and 2007 movie musical 'Hairspray). She was also supposed to voice Ursula but sadly died due to heart failure before rehearsals could start.
When people visit their grave they've been known to leave flowers, donuts and make-up on her grave, and have also been known to have sex on her grave or even allegedly defecate on it in homage to her most iconically disgusting scene at the end of 'Pink Flamingos' - and yes it was real (won't say what). John Waters claims it's what she would have wanted.

Minor correction: Sebastian is Trinidadian, not Jamaican. The animated series expand on that by saying he was an immigrant and, iirc, his parents even came to Atlantica to visit him.
The fact we didn’t get the sparkling dress and they made her wear that same ripped up dress broke my heart!!! And I do wish she wore a princess dress but it was still the best live action by far

I just saw the little mermaid in theaters and it was breath taking she killed it I swear have me singing and crying and feeling so much nostalgia. Some things were different but it was still so good

NTM on Ms. Colleen Atwood - she was going for period accuracy ok?? Ariel had one dress because that was all someone else could spare for her (and it makes the blue dress more meaningful!)😭😭 I do wish she had a transforming formal wear dress in the style of the time but can appreciate the reinterpretation of the pink dress as a day dress that is detailed but in the style of that time (1830s). Even so, only 2 dresses and no peek at the wedding dress wasn't enough!
I loved the live action and I haven't liked many of the live action films. Halle brought so much emotion to the character. Honestly all the actors did a great job, and I loved the romance between Ariel and Eric.
