Watching Grant and his crew catch these fish over the past few years has fully hooked me with the snake coolaid. Great episode and glad to see some focus on sneakhead this year with this series and Das Boat. The OG kayak fishing crew represented in proper fashion.
As a professional Drone videographer I can say it’s below amateur at best 😂 what a wasted opportunity 🤦🏻♂️ He filmed a prime subject but with a high quality drone not a cheap mavic and a real camera that could have been an award winning clip
@@jeremyk5414 got to say that sounds a little bitter there. Where are your award winning videos posted please? I'd like to see what you consider the difference between your pro stuff and this shows less than amateur stuff.
They are some pissed off fish when they get hooked. Waited 7 years to bust the 10 nut and get an 11 and a 10.25 w/in 30 mins of each other. That's an epic day by any definition.
Virginia offers such a wide variety of species to target and Grant has taken full advantage of what the state has to offer to hone his skills. Grant has grown into an extremely dedicated and accomplished angler and is a fantastic representative of the sport. Great episode. Next up is Grant getting Joe and the crew in kayaks to target big striper in the Chesapeake.
Fast forward 10 years and we'll have a video series of the Meateater crew heading up the Mekong River in a patrol boat to locate Joe's snakehead compound...
"Excuse me sir. Are your testicles ok?" What a great gar eat that was amazing. Please more metal music this makes my heart happy. Nice double digit snakehead!
Over here in their native range, snakeheads get the muskie treatment; the big native freshwater predator that only gives you about one shot a day, pursued by a cult following operating on catch-and-release principles willing to work their asses off for that one massive eat.

Ive been fishing snakehead in jersey for 9 years. And I'm also into large mouth bass. I have not seen any decrease in my bass and I can say I love my snakehead fishing. I keep some here and there but I release alot of them in hope they get bigger. I also hope that everyone starts to realize that the snakehead isn't a threat too the bass population. Well lets keep them post coming was a Great video.
@Meateater please work with the Scott Rea Project to get him involved with American wildlife. The most passionate butcher from the UK. He has style and PASSION for bringing field to table.
As a VA resident, I say enjoy catching them but we should NOT be releasing them. I totally understand that it hasn’t had as many of the negative effects we thought but it’s still invasive.
Entire ecosystems will collapse, we have about 12 years before the snakeheads replace humans. I hammered the snakeheads this summer, made a video. Great episode!
Crazy how quick people got on board with snakeheads but still hate on Carp. They ain’t going anywhere, and they’re absolutely blast to catch. Get onboard.
Getting into some larger gar on custom flys made for them would be some great fun. Could probably get away with sneaking up on them while they are "rolling" during the spawn.
So when your first videos came out I felt like they were a bit overly aggressive and in your face, and hate it when metal guitar riffs are slapped on top of everything...However...that aerial shot of the beaver damn incident?...GOLD...Nothing but chugs could have fit that moment
The authorities said that these fish could travel overland while breathing air to relocate themselves to a neighboring lake or river. I found that hard to believe until I saw two of them hitchhiking on Rt. 95 outside of Fredericksburg. Pass the cool aid please!
Kill it before you bleed it... literally no reason not to... Leaving it alive wont cause extra blood to pump out, and will cause extra stress hormones. Not to mention it's pointlessly cruel :(. Coming from someone who has killed and eaten 1000s of fish
I think there are only two river systems in VA with Snakehead populations, not sure what is up with the secrecy. You are correct, I will not change my ways and pumping the tires of these fish will likely encourage the 5 gallon bucket crew to spread these to more bodies of water in VA, as many have already done. I will keep killing them and eating many and I won't do anything to encourage folks to spread invasive species that have an impact that we do not really understand yet. I did enjoy the show, other than the snakeheads swimming away part.
There's more than 10 river systems in VA with established snakehead populations. Not counting 5 others that have had recorded catches in the past 3 years.

My comment/question is for grant. How are you liking the power drive trolling motor vs a more traditional cable steer for working back through those tight areas?
Hey man, it's not too bad. There's a tiny bit of lag from the remote to the trolling motor but not so much that it's a problem. After a little use you'll get used to it. I've never had an issue
Love music selection on this one! I live out west and currently, as far as I know, there are no snake head issues. But I would love the opportunity to head east and snag a line or two on some. Looks like really good meat!
Man, I haven't broken 6 lbs on my favorite fish, the bowfin. I mention it because they're so similarly shaped. The 5 lb 12 oz bowfin that I caught was HUGE and STRONG so I can't imagine a 10 lb'er. I now have a new goal.
Lol silly to wish away a fish that has become such a vital part of the ecosystem. 20 years with absolutely zero measurable impacts. Yet the fisheries are healthier than ever for every species sampled by VDGIF and Maryland Fish and Wildlife
