  • When I say that most fitting issues come from incorrect garment ease, I mean it. This video proves my point. Do you struggle with any of these?
Garment ease, which relates to how a garment's size compares to your body, can be highly subjective. Every person has different preferences for fit, and these preferences can vary across different types of clothing, such as blouses, dresses, jackets, and pants.
It's important to customize your own ease standards to achieve the desired fit and to prevent fitting issues that can arise due to both too little and too much ease. For instance, a tight garment may lead to issues like gaping at the front, tightness in the bust, high armholes, and restricted movement.
On the other hand, a loose garment may result in problems such as loose armholes, wide shoulder positioning, and excess length. Mastering your garment ease standards based on your preferences and body proportions optimizes the fit of your clothing and leads to better-fitting garments.

What a great comparison between a garment that has too little wearing ease vs. too much!

So the other day I had on my favorite pants and was telling my husband I wanted to make some just like them and why. I proceeded to go into depth about the yoke waistband, fit over hips, legs, loose here, later there. He was not interested in the least but humored me lol anyway. That is all the information I need to write down about how I need my pant ease, correct? WOW! This is so exciting and fascinating ❣️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

@@Kera.S. I love that you're indicating all these topics about fit and what you like and don't like! This is the first huge step in understanding fit. I'm so glad to hear about your excitement around this topic!
If you want to make a rub-off/copy of your pants, I have a UA-cam video here showing how to do that: ua-cam.com/users/livegDp9a4o8qJ8 :)

The fitting corrections are in the book, but since garment ease is such a huge topic, I'm going through that in this video series more in-depth in how all the measurements relate to each other.

I don't understand why you attribute something like the bust being too high to "garment ease". You could have no ease or 5cm of ease and it would still be in the wrong place.
To me it just seems like you're saying all fitting issues are about ease. While some technical arguments could be made that ease is any extra length/width above a garment that would be absolutely skintight and unbreathable I don't think lumping all these things together is terribly useful.

The concept of correcting garment ease can be applied to achieve the correct shapes of the patterns, which will conform to the body's shapes. Yes, garment ease is the extra length and width that allows the body to move. Anything above that amount is considered design ease and not needed unless desired for the silhouette. Therefore, if you have a lot of extra width in the above bust, but little width in the bust, the proportions of the garment are incorrect for the body, and the garment ease amounts are different for those two points of measure.
You're right that the length must also be considered, and this is also considered garment ease.
The length measurements are critical in getting the positions of the pattern to conform to the positions of the pattern. This can all be done through the same method of adjusting patterns based on ease preferences and requirements for that body type. Everyone has different preferences of ease, and defining those preferences can allow you to make corrections based on that data.
Making corrections based on ease preferences gets the pattern shapes to conform to the body's shapes.
