Anyone else heard this song a million times and it stills hits in a powerful way every time?
I was only 5 yrs old when this song introduced me to everything metal.
I estimate around 6,000 listens over the course of my life.
And every time I hear, my hands just start playing guitar...whether or not I have one with me.
🤘😫🤘
It was this and Nothing Else Matters by Metallica that got me heavily into metal
Fuck yes
yes
Definitely ONE of their greatest songs
Not just theirs. One of THE greatest songs of all time. If not the best
@@keatonheil6974 i think there is no better anti-war song in this World. it is not possible
Ion think y’all got da joke
good ONE... ; )
@@LeiterFurKundenzufriedenheit disposable heroes too
The way James screams "STICKS IN ME" is the greatest thing about the live performances, it wouldn't fit the recording as well but here it transforms the entire song for me
absolutely , i think that (transition) was the best version i've heard so far, it was so smooth and moving , really expressive that almost scared me..
i was looking for your comment, this one thing alone is why i prefer new recordings of 'one'
I thought he was saying shit from me
@nicolascruz7560 yea the original lyrics are *Fed through the tube that sticks in me, just like a wartime novelty*
*Tied to machines that make me be, cut this life off from me*
But when they play live he screams the "sticks in me" part and replaces "life" with "shit"
Imagine telling ur friends, “my grandad plays in a band called Metallica”
I’d be mindfuckingblown.
Just look at how awesome they are man wtf!!🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥
LEGENDS
ONE has is all: wonderful intro, clean lead & distorted lead, speed and thrash, fabulous rhythm and lyrics, drums, fills, double bass, amazing, what not to like 👍 ONE of best 🤘
❤ ONE of a kind 🤪🤘
🤘 1 of the best 🤘
Not to mention a great story along with it
It just has no bass😔
SOOOO TRUE
James is literally sounding better than ever he might not have a young man’s body anymore but you can tell he has been taking vocal lessons. Technically he is singing better than he ever has.
i would say that during the early load tour was his peak when it came to actually singing notes and stuff lol just listen to bleeding me, one or fade to black during 1996 he really sings surprisingly good, for me doe James best sounding voice was during 1991 nothing beats that!
@@blackdragons95 it’s close but he sounds a lot cleaner and enunciates his words better at the moment in my opinion. He might have been louder back then but I think he is actually singing more technical now than ever. Sounds fantastic i wish he sounded like this when I seen them live in 08 lol
@@MrOasis316 Yeah i understand what you mean! i have seen them 5 times and every time james sounded different so for me it was almost a new experience every time i saw them haha
@@blackdragons95 haha cool lars and Kirk seem more on point as well Robert has always been on point. Would be a great time to see them now.
@@MrOasis316 Yeah!
Dang, Lars' timing and double kicks are so on point and powerful.
Are you a drummer too or something?
I think especially a drummer would notice how good the timing is that's why I ask
you mean the sound technician, if you see the double bass on the video It is so rough and bad played
@@WDMcClusky What are you guys arguing about? 😂
@@jhamilton1007 True things, that's what they argue. Sadly the sound is edited, Lars can't play that double bass pattern correctly since I don't know, 2004 maybe... But it is what it is 🤷🏻♂️
@@JayJayPee123 Metallica is no modern metal group, Lars never used triggers. The guy didn't even know what that is. He's an old school guy. Audio Mix is post edited like a DVD... It's been like that a few years already
Hes turning 60 this year, but he still has got a powerfull n excellent voice. His vitality is beyond compare.
he turns 60 next year
The meaning of this song just grows and grows with every year that passes…
In today's society yea I believe this cold heartly
@ghost mall _Humanity_ has learned. But a few bad apples _within_ humanity have not.

@@harveyferris835 This song has nothing to do with his mom having cancer. It's based on a movie.
@ghost mall Agree friend
I have noticed that not only james singing and lars drumming has been coming back to it's awesomeness but also kirk's solos are also becoming more and more precisely played.. wow
Kirk is adding even more musicality to his playing with little but great tweaks
Nice to hear Kirk play the lead just like the studio version. One of the most powerful guitar solos of all time.
This is a fact
bro what's wrong with your ears
@@bumpsybro whats wrong with your brain
I actually thought he butchered the solo
Must be one of the best LIVE versions i've heard of this track. Encredible to hear how James' voice has aged over the years. Beautiful ❤
When will we transition from "Papa Het" to "Grandpapa Het"? The boys are pushing 60 and still kick ass with the best of 'em. Metal is immortal.
James could pull off a root rock album
He will be Papa forever man
@@xmultiprogrammx Yeah, I was just making a dumb joke.
@@shotarokaneda5922 I don't know what root rock is but I'll take your word for it. If Lars can do that weird look he had in the Until It Sleeps video then James can do whatever he wants.
I already consider them the granddads of Metal. The songs they wrote back in the 80s have turned from anger to life lessons.
One of the best performances of this song I've seen in a long time. James is choosing a lower octave for certain parts over forcing the high, and it sounds amazing. He used to do this a lot during load and reload and into the early 2000's (S&M 1999 you'll hear a lot of it). Lars had tight thunderous drums, and Kirk's solos were on tempo and solid. So happy these guys are still killing it.
Fucking hell are they in shape at the moment! Insanely good performances from all four. Bonus tip of the hat to Lars for for nailing the 16th note triplets and sticking to the original groove and fills during the rest of the song. He gets shit on so often but he deserves credit for the last years, he is definitely getting tighter again.
Right on! The haters are always quick to criticize, but when Lars is on point they go silent. 👍🏼🤘🏼
@@MikeysMorgue Sorry buddy, but it’s been edited.
This isn’t raw audio.
But I agree that this is the best shape Metallica’s been in probably S&M.
@@RDB93 What makes the difference? All the new shitty Metal bands with boring blast beats are all edited and programed in the studio! Dave Lombardo was talking about it in an interview and how new Metal sucks. Metallica are better than all of the garbage Metal bands combined!
@@MikeysMorgue Yeah, that’s the studio - and I agree, most of it sucks…
But we’re talking about live audio here, and those double kicks are 100% edited.
What the crowd heard and what you’re hearing on this video are two different things.
@@RDB93 okay rando person on the internet who thinks they know everything. I believe you because I’m certain you know for a fact it was “edited”. Care to explain why they don’t edit in the double kicks for Spit out the Bone and Damage Inc? I mean, why not, if that’s what they’re doing right?
These guys dropped their debut album 4 years before I was born and have been a big influence in my life as a young teen. They will always be my favorite band. They are living Legends and still got it 40+ years later. They will always be the Kings of metal and no one will ever come close to matching them.
You're right
Iron Maiden is better but Metallica is a legend nonetheless
This song ALWAYS gives me goosebumps
Same
James & Co. are sounding in the FORM OF THEIR LIFE... Everyone always goes on about his late 80's/early 90's voice... He's bringing that same aggression, for example at 3:58, but he's singing with more nuance, clarity and musicality. Hell, at 6:27, it's straight up DEATH METAL! James also seems to be having more fun playing around with the melodies from time to time. Really a joy to watch, and hear.
Honestly its the AUDIENCES that have lost their energy not the band IMO
@@MegaMetallicaMASTER smartphones bro (ironically I’m replying from my iPhone)
💯They are amazing and so were they in '07 when I had the fortune to see them live. The purist late 80s/early 90s banter is a load of BS.
@@diezel013 For real. If I was there live my phone would never leave my pocket. Who gives a wet shit about recording when they're right in front of you.
@@pancon5 to be fair it does have some merit, just for their youthful energy and Hetfield’s grit. But they’re in incredibly fine form right now, better than in many years.
"that STICKS IN ME"
When James goes up the octave for that part, it always gives me proper chills. I can't imagine hearing the song without that inflection now; so freaking satisfying
Ok the flames from their stage and all the other stages around that went off once the bomb dropped gave me chills.
The flames were not on other stages but from the bar and merch buildings ! 😉

Jame's voice is so on point...look like it only gets better through the years! Blows my mind everytime i see a live performance!!
THAT. Was a fucking incredible performance. Best version of One I have seen for a long time.
I came here looking for this comment🔥🤟🏼
James’ vocals are literally improving each show and it’s unbelievable. Lars, Kirk, and Rob are all sounding great and the band is playing tight. They are in the middle of their second prime. Most bands don’t even have one prime.
I've seen them a few times throughout the decades, and this is definitely the best James has sounded since the early 90s. Wild how good they sound
A MASTERPIECE. Best song ever! The soft intro, the progression, so musical, then it hits so hard, and the lyrics…..oh my god. This song is perfect. It has everything. I tear up most of the times I listen to this song. It’s so good!
IN ALL THE DAMN HELL, WHAT DID I JUST HEAR? this is fucking one of the best interpretations of metallica's one since 2017. The band is fresh, alive and in fucking spirits!! They are in complete harmony, and above all, the level of execution of lars, since 2017 he has not been at this level, I am so happy for Metallica and that they do not give me the words to say how much I love this band and I am only 23 years old.
Agreed 100% - Lars is on fire atm
@@GrandeJano Lars is at his best and we couldn't be happier for that damn dwarf!!!
@@withewolf8295 unfortunately the haters don’t want to accept it 😂
@@thedarksideofthemoon9195
the haters will have to keep sucking it
@@thedarksideofthemoon9195 Metallica fans have settled for mediocrity for years now, Lars is keeping tempo at the bare minimum, but he sure as hell isnt playing the double kicks in this performance, they're edited in. Charlie Benante and Dave Lombardo are around the same age and have genuine skill even now. Lars is still infinitely worse than he was in his prime, maybe not compared to a decade ago, but I'm tired of acting like Lars is a good drummer at this point
This is beyond great. I'm very proud of them. Makes me super happy to see them in this good shape. Had hard time holding my tears back since this was the song that really started it for me back in '88.
Wow what an amazing set. The pictures, the scrolling articles. The pyrotechnics. And an eerie bad ass sound. Still just as bad ass as ever.🤘
It is wild that they hit every mark with their instruments. Just like it was originally recorded. True masters of their craft.
This is straight up my favourite band. Don't think that's ever gonna change.
5:30. That double bass ignites the afterburners in the gym. Every time.
Feels like Metallica are now in their prime, the sound is the best it's ever been, maturing with age like a fine wine
I love Metallica!!! And they still sound great live🤘🏼
Sounding better than ever and that's probably the best live version of One I've ever heard. That includes seeing them live during the AJFA tour when it released. At 52 it gives me chills hearing my favorite band still killing it live. Best band in modern history!
lars's double kicks sound a whole lot better than they did before in live performances.. i smell a new album coming out in the next year
I smell post production. No way he played those parts live.
@@MrColinberrill Nah, I'm fairly sure he's been practicing. The recent performance of Battery makes it obvious. So he getting significantly better at double bass recently isn't surprising.
Some people say he is playin with a click/metronome, i dont know if that claim is true but he is sounding amazing in this Europe tour

When this song debuted on MTV back in the day I was absolutely hooked. I can close my eyes while listening and still feel like that same kid, such is the connection this song has in my soul. Respect…

I also watched No Leaf Clover from the French date, absolutely fantastic. What a night it must have been!
Still kicking ass in their older days. What a sight to behold.
I love this song it reminds me of my brother learning how to play this song on his guitar when he was in high school.
I’ve never seen Metallica live - this is legendary.

Metallica, maior banda de todos os tempos!!!
Metallica, la mejor banda de todos los tiempos!!!
Metallica, the greatest band of all time!!!
dang Lars's drums always sounds so perfect not always recorded perfectly but I digress. I love my sony headphones. plus we can hear the bass drum nicely but less for the cymbals but you know this is not a studio recording with mics on each and every cymbal so we cant get THAT critical, we are sooo lucky that they record these so well for us with almost studio like recordings and multiple close up cameras for free!! I mean come on people please stop bitching about these guys and show a little respect, they record sooo many shows that it cant always be perfect. thank you guyz your to cool, my ears love this.oh and loving the lasers :)
This is edited audio.
All their live shows are. Most of them his bass drum is quiet and choppy, he sounds like he’s been practicing here. My point is, unless you mean just the sound, he sounds way better technically than he has in the last 10 years. At least.
Tight tight ! The way they play together is fxxxng brilliant!! Makes us feel good.

my god lars has improved this year, especially during the killer double bass part
yes i know, but i think hes using triggers. Look at the double bass part. He is hitting very light but there comes a huge sound from the kickdrums. But lars is still getting better snd better
He has improved, but for some reason he's stopped playing the One intro correctly. He doesn't do that little extra kick hit in the intro anymore, which is a shame cause it's one of my favorite parts.
@@beirch yes that ive noticed to
I doubt he plays to a click or uses triggers…
What you’re hearing is post-production editing. Mostly on the kick drum.
But hey, Lars is still playing well for a guy his age.
