I think left is politically dead in terms of elections but left ideology is quite strong in all branches of the government. It fits well with many aspects of the Indian foreign policy world view.

Interesting that the Arab World or Mecca have not made any comments on Babri Demolishing or Ram Pratisthan in Ayodhya, neither have they given any statements on minorities in India. Most of it came from western media.

24:10 YES, I am an exception perhaps as even before I saw this podcast I know about Democrat Party of 1920 elections and Swaraj Party 1923 elections. Just a week ago or so I read about all the Indian central elections from 1920 to 2019 to know the performance of the major parties and I read about Motilal Nehru history in wikipedia, he left Congress for a while and joined another party. It is surprising that the initial general elections when Congress wasnt big is not talked about it in school books. Congress first got seats in 1934 elections and then Nehru and Patel entered the Parliament only in 1945 elections but as nominated members, not elected. I love history and read a lot including the forgotten chapters of Indian kings fight against Arab Caliphate 636Ce - mid 800s CE which schools dont teach, although I got PhD in biology in Australia

Nehru was fulcrum of left. communist party was just a subsidiary of international communist party. As proven by USSR, Chinese, and other countries they're authoritarian with dectotrial tendencies. Congress had about 20% hard core vote share. Thanks to family, that will erode further. Problem with Congress as Abhijit rightly said is that initially they annointed Nehru as their Pope, then Indira, Rajiv, Sonia etc. But Rahul is a communist Pope hell bend on ending the church by harming the followers. His advicers are the icing in the party cake. We need another sensible alternative to Congress is my take since I am a hrad core Sanghi all my 50 years of aware life.

LOL.. AIM's implied assertion that it was he who enlightened the audience about the Swaraj Party through this podcast certainly borders on megalomania...esp. considering that Mah. SSC Board's History textbook had an explicit mention of Motilal Nehru being a part of the Swaraj Party and there are several thousand students like me who must have read it each year(though most of us might have found it to be too insignificant to retain it in the memory).
And exactly how many percent of Indian population gives a damn about whats written in one paragraph of a SSC examination (including those who give that exam)😂😂
And I think what he implied is how congress controlled the narrative that no one actually knows about that period in a way and those who know , most of them don’t actually raise these questions in public that congress as it implies was never “the only political party which was involved in our freedom struggle “

I have heard about the Swaraj Party and it wasn't necessarily a different party. Infact, Gandhi ji wanted to avoid a split like it happened in 1907 in Surat.
The Congress had actually split in two factions. First was those who wanted to join the newly constituted Central Legislative Assembly and those who did not. Among the former were leaders like Motilal Nehru and CR Das, while among the latter were leaders like Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel.
The idea of not joining the Legislative Assembly was that because we have boycotted the Constitutional Reforms introduced in the 1919 Government of India Act, then we must boycott the institutions and instead of electoral politics, focus on constructive policies to prepare the tired masses, in the aftermath of Non Cooperation Movement, for next wave of protests.
Similarly, I cannot buy this idea that Congress was not central to the freedom struggle negotiations. The first and the third round table conferences were not attended by the Congress and they were considered useless.
I think, we must never apply today's logic for judging the past. That was a different world. Communists of that time were heroes of their times.
