In my area we do animal sacrifice for rains...i dont know why but its does rain 90% times the day its done.. I asked a person who was my headmaster as well as someone who experienced mystic experiences...he said it rains because the temple is polluted by the sacrifice and the deity causes rain to purify the area...the rain so got is limited is to a few kms only...

No, durbha grass is not the same as kusha grass. There is a specific mention in Mahabharata where, I think Rishi Lomaharsha, mentions in a story very specifically that someone did a yagya on burbha grass which is not the kusha grass. He said exactly that.

How do we know whether it was human sacrifice or site of capital punishment?
Good discussion. It took me heck lot of time to get my head around to the fact that not less than 500 years back Assyrian and Babylonians were impaling people l. One of the worst form of torture / slow death one could ever think of.
In Shakht and Devi cultures animal sacrifices or any sacrifices needs to be done in order to keep the deity energized
At least that's what I have understood from sadguru videos (he doesn't do it though, he knows other methods to spill life without spilling blood)

It was really needed. Becouse once you talk with western people, first thing they will come up with is Sati; becouse they think that west helped East correct it's mistake and hence they are superior and thereby their rule in the east was a project of Progress and civilisation of human kind... the white man's burden.

Kushal/Abhijit, I have a doubt, I have heard that to participate in any yaga one should be in grihasthashram and yaga yajaman or the one who is initiating yaga should do along with his spouse. And Rama did Aawa medha yaga but Sitama was not with him by that time. I also have heard the same explanation of this yaga, which is so similar to what Abhijit said. Can you clarify two things? 1) Without spouse at his side, how Rama even started the yaga and 2) Which text describes the mentioned yaga?
You stated " Before the Horse regurgitates the Grass" this is not possible as a horse is a mono-gastric (Like a pig ) only Ruminants like ike Cows Buffalos goats seep and deer regurgitate as they have rumen where the grass is stored after gathered by grazing then when they lie down they regurgitate the grass and chew the cud and send it to the true stomach , though it is a grazer The horse has no rumen So you mean some other process than regurgitation.

Doesnt matter whether a practice is rare or not.. what matters is whether theological evidence of that practice being performed is present in the scriptures of that particular religion or not..

The industrial scale othering and genocide that has happened under christianity and islam for the same higher collective good(again revered as an act of virtue/righteousness, fighting the infidels), infact universalised here making it even more dangerous and widespread, easily makes up for the entire history of human sacrifices by ALL the other sects, and then some. No one comes close to them in terms of the death/torture/suffering caused.

Before eating we give food to Agni. Similarly when we want to eat meat during festivity, we offer it to god first to make them happy. There can be multiple different reasons for human and animal sacrifices.

I was hoping they'd bring up Sati like sacrifices in Europe coz I've read some Russian tribes had something similar for women upon their husband's death & some Greek tribes would slit the throat of the women on their dead husband's grave. I don't know much about it so I wish they had discussed it.
