Bhai main toh darr gayi. Now leftists will say that those ancient boats from "Palestine" came from India and ask the Palestinians to come and settle in Indian port cities.
This war and its procession of victims and disastrous consequences were predictable and avoidable quite simply by respecting international law. Respect for international law by all countries without exception and equally is a magic wand, not only making the military option obsolete but also investing the hundreds of billions of destruction, in the construction, development and reduction of human suffering, including in “rich” countries. Disrespect for international law is an invitation to war and suffering. In their family home, politicians preach peace, at the head of a government, war, hell. While we wait for a World Government, the following two quotes from Albert Einstein are full of wisdom: "A smart person solves a problem. A wise person avoids it." and “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result!” Finally, Winston Churchill: “A people who forget their past condemn themselves to reliving it.”
With a staggering 4,200 people killed, over one million people displaced in just 10 days, and large areas in the Gaza Strip reduced to rubble, we have grave fears about the toll on civilians in the coming days
The problem with the general dialogue about Israel/Palestine is that moral questions are applied to it that are never applied elsewhere. Right of return being one. Refugee status another. If your grandfather was a refugee, the UNRWA says you too are a refugee - even if you were born in the house your father was born in. That’s why the media refers to “Jenin Refugee Camp” etc. Jenin is a city full of people who have lived there for generations now. It would be like calling it the “Karachi Refugee Camp” or the “Delhi Refugee Camp”. proportionality is another one. Media quoting Hamas press releases another. Imagine the BBC quoting Al Qaeda figures on civilian deaths in Kandahar. It’s ludicrous. “The Blockade of Gaza” is another one. Never mind Gaza has a border post with Egypt. I saw a reporter on the Egyptian side yesterday showing the aid trucks lined up and lamenting that only 50 or so are getting through daily but before the war 800 were coming through per day. 800 goods trucks coming in and out of Gaza per day and it’s under blockade? It’s the least effective blockade in history. Particularly as the Gaza-Israel border was open pre war with people coming over to work. Finally, the big one - genocide. The only genocide where the population being subjected to a genocide has seen a massive population growth during the “genocide”. Least effective genocide in history.
@@firstnamelastname6976 I was born in australia, went to school in australia, my brother and sister were born in australia, my mother came to australia as a refugee as a 5 year old. Am I a refugee? Because no authority in the world treats me as such. If, let’s say, that mother and baby were in a refugee camp in Ethiopia for Sudanese refugees escaping from darfur and had been there for a matter of days, weeks, months, maybe even a year or two - I would say yes, the child is refugee. However, we aren’t debating the status of Palestinians born in 1950 in what is now “Jenin refugee camp” or “Jabalia refugee camp”. We’re debating the status of kids born in 2023 in those places. Places their families have been for 4 generations. Places with apartment blocks, shopping centres, restaurants and cafes.
