Speaking of decorations with player housing: in the early days of black desert online I endlessly grinded low level mobs for these taxidermied squirrels. I filled my house with hundreds and hundreds of them all over all the furniture and in a half circle facing the doorway so they stared at any guest entering.. Then I invited guild mates over and pretended my house was normal. I'll do it again in WoW if given the chance.

You're describing SWTOR's "strongholds". They are great and I love customizing them. If wow had the same system. It would be awesome.

Why was the garrison a miss?
Simple - Because Blizzard made two crucial mistakes:
    1) They tried to make the garrison an integral gameplay part.
    2) The primary reason why people love player housing is that they can build cool stuff and show cool stuff to other players - and the garrison simply didn't provide that. It was barely customizable and it was not really possible to visit the garrisons of others...not that there was a real reason to visit them in the first place because they all looked the same. Strangley enough the most customization that players could do was collecting different songs for the jukebox to play. That part was actually cool.
That said - garrisons still could have worked with the functionalities they provided by simply offering areas of the garrison reserved for customization and customization only on top of the rest.
Sources for stuff to customize should come from all sorces: raids, dungeons, delves, Open World content and primarily and most importantly professions.
17:39 One sugestion: In Lord of the Rings Online you can visit the houses of other players unless they blocktheir house from uninvited visitors. You cannot interact with the house, but you can ride around in the instanced villages and visit homes and even guild houses. In LotRO there are four areas where instanced villages for players are located and people can buy a house, one each in the style of humans, halflings, elves and dwarves. I spent many hours just riding around in these villages, visiting homes and gathering ideas for what to collect and how to prep my own house.

In FFXIV the vast majority of housing items (furniture, decorations, even flooring/walls/the outside of the house) are created by the crafting jobs and it works out pretty well. Even raid trophies are created by using boss drops that crafters can use to make the trophies. Would love to see something similar in WoW.

Worth mentioning is the system in EverQuest that has player housing and neighborhoods you can walk around in. They also have a separate guild hall for your guild to display items and use the guild teleporter. Since this is Holly’s background (coming over to Blizz from EQ), I think they have a handle on what features a good housing system should have. In WoW terms, this needs to be an evergreen system that survives across expansions though. And that is where Blizzard is sometimes afraid to implement things. But housing doesn’t have anything to do with combat, just items and loot. So hopefully it’s just a decision about devoting manpower and server resources. For the people who collect cosmetics and this is the primary reason they play the game, player housing would be a tremendously good feature.

Whenever this debate comes up, the same "oh players will be in their houses and never leave" argument comes up, but EverQuest 2 is always the first thing I think of. The houses are in little neighborhoods, instanced so basically each "model" could be a bunch of players' houses, and the neighborhoods have things like vendors and crafting areas and quest givers so there's always people there - they weren't just centered around the current content's main hub city, they were all over the world in these various neighborhoods BECAUSE that was where their houses are, and sure enough, because of the vendors and crafting areas, you did get to know your neighbors! I think this might be really good for current WoW where your realm isn't your "neighborhood" as much anymore because of the cross-realm play.
And inside your house, you have a place to put furniture items, trophies from past kills, pets you want to just run around free, etc. And you can still show friends your house by inviting them into your instance, so there's the desire to show off covered.
I feel like EQ2 is the model to copy for a game like WoW, personally.

I agree with everything you said. Many years ago I gave feedback on the idea but didn't had much hope. When I got my garrison, I was so disappointed on how very little options there where to customize it.I think shortly after that I took a break from wow and played a different mmo, where they had that option, just can't remember what it was... Maybe rift? No clue, it's been so long lol

I left WoW too after working on my garrison but never finishing it. I played House Flipper and 7 Days to Die, where I loved decorating houses. But my favorite was Everquest housing. If they make EQ3 and it has housing as good as in 2, I will play it.

Actually they pretty much took the design from Ultima Online, which some of the same developers. The only problem is that there was limited room for player housing and the best spots were taken early and eventually ran out of room, it was an awful design.

I think this is as simple as : *Make areas in un-used parts of every zone an instanced place for you to put your house.*
Either that, or basically the same thing, but the portal is the *Island Expedition* boat, which takes you to an island that bears the zone-theme of your chosing.

Stormsong Valley has a faction assault world quest called Unfriendly Skies that has some interesting phasing tech with the airship involved. Ever since, I've felt like it would be cool to have personal and guild airships as a form of player housing that not only could be evergreen in the modern sense but could also utilize all kinds of skyboxes and zones as backdrops and dock at a variety of points of interest to effectively "solve" the weird world travel gameplay of players just using portal hopping to get around everywhere.

yes. but only if they take heavily from Wildstar's way of doing it where decorations could drop from all dungeons and you could earn pieces and parts from questing, world drops, and professions. Your own pocket dimension, furnished and built from your adventures in azeroth. Add in heroic and mythic raid trophies that can be placed on walls/floors etc.

Here's my question for you. What do you think of Blizz making it an option of using your Warband characters in the follower dungeons as opposed to the generic placeholders they use currently. Obviously your entire party couldn't consist of your Warband since it is a 5-man and your Warband is only 4-man. Maybe an option comes up when you queue for a Follower dungeon where you can select dps, tanks, and or healers from your Warband. They would still be AI controlled but would be limited by the gear they have equipped and talents that you have selected. I don't think they would be eligible for gear BUT to incentivize you keeping them viable maybe they become eligible for some currency (resonance, kel, etc.), just at a much more reduced rate than the character that you are actively playing. The character that is actually running the Follower dungeons would be the only one eligible to get gear, just as it is now. Let me know what you think.

Set certain areas that can be built upon, then the player can quest to gain "Building Tiles" similar to Fallout 4, per each zone.
Seeing as how both Blizzard & Bethesda are under the same roof, so to speak, add a Building Menu.
Sure make the area phased that only that Player / Warband can see, unless you're invited to see it.

Seeing alts walk around would be cool (might be a little odd if you have a Stormwind warbase and have Orc alts walking around?). I'd like to see mounts/pets/hunter pets as well. It could also use the Delve seamless transition to instance tech as well. It would be a money printing runaway hit AS LONG AS they get the basics correct, and not make dumb decisions (such as not giving us choices in location and customization). It doesn't have to be perfect or complete at launch, but it does have to RIGHT, because launching a bad player housing experience would be such a death knell. It needs all the care and attention as a true end game pillar, and not some tertiary curiosity (like the pet battle system). As much as I want this, I rather not have it than have it be half-assed.

Player housing would be nice, but I feel guild housing would be so much better. All you said plus statues from raids, CE, AHOC, PvP, Mplus, etc. There have been less and less incentives to be in a guild over the last expensions. I think it is time to strenghten this aspect of the MMO again
P.S. or do individual player housing with the option to create an guild town, basically if you‘re in a guild player/GM option to include your home to the guild town.

Lore, request you discuss the multitude of bugs and QA issues that are plaguing this game right now. It's been an issue this whole expansion, but has recently become unplayable due to the recent patch 11.0.5. The bug forum is exploding right now with issues, the raid is becoming unplayable due to low FPS, the anniversary event is a mess, all due to bug and QA problems. Would be a fun watch, and maybe wake Blizzard up to the fact they need to put more effort into the fundamentals of the game first.

Do NOT add physics to the item placement. Do I want a flying bed? let me do it. Do I want a bed halfway inside the wall? let me have it. Basically just copy most features from GW2 player housing, I wish FF14 housing didn't have physics attached to item placement, that way I wouldn't need to use 100 different bugs to be able to put my loft wherever I want.
Being able to put any item anywhere is a big part of creative house decorations and being able to "create" new furniture or architecture that isn't present in the game.
Also, make player housing integrate with guild housing, like you have your guild house and there is a portal to access your personal home from there and vice versa. A player + guild housing system could open such a big avenue for new types of content and rewards.

At this point in the game's life I really don't care and dont think it should be a priority for the wow team. There are already way too many continents, zones, cities, shards, servers, versions of wow that split up wow players. Having everyone hearth to their house just sounds sad for anyone that wants to play the game as a MMO. I know the game is old and the servers struggle with big zone events even with players split up with sharding but I would like more community focused additions and less single player and instanced content. Or just make wow 2 already.
