- I bought this CX500 in July 2022. It’s sat in a garage since 1995! 32’000 mikes. Actually in quite good condition. I’m thinking it needs a good overhaul which I’m going to be doing through August and filing it all. The work will be published through August 2022 in short parts of approximately 20 min, and then I’m hoping to eventually film me riding it. Hope you watch and enjoy. Big thanks to all who watch. 😃

These videos give me hope! I have 1981 black/red which has not run since year 2000. I’m inspired now and it’s about time I got started.
Yeah get cracking. Good luck
Thanks for these videos, I had a CX500 back in 1980, loved that bike. Brings back all the memories of working on it.
Great video, thanks.
I'm watching this because tomorrow is a big day we are going try to see if our cx we bought starts we have bought 2 of different folk one is a dog the other half a dog
So fingers crossed
Good luck with it
I had a ‘Plastic Pig’ in the 80’s… Fond memories 😊
love the sound
I had one for a few years and it never let me down 🤣🤣
Great job - great video - loving the camera work and presentation style - thank you for sharing!
Ahh Thanks for watching
Had a Black CX back in the 80s . Regretted selling it ever since. Best bike i ever owned. Regards.
The Honda CX500 came with a black radaitor, the custom and de luxe were fitted with chrome ones
Nice bike. It has the best color scheme for that model.
Great stuff thanks for sharing.
Great job! As it is a HONDA, this circumstance was helpful. You rarely see soda blast on carburettor innards. Very effective. Greetings from germany
Greetings from Manchester. Thank you
Thanks so much for video, but surprises to me that after so good work you accelerate so much just after start with cold engine.
They’re well solid these old Hondas. Not something to worry about but yeah always good to warm up properly to extend engine life 👍
Danke fürs Video😊
That is what happens when you leave old Petrol in the Carbs for too long. Everything seizes
up. My Brother has a CB1300 X4 and it has exactly the same problem. Petrol pouring out of
the carbs, because he left it stood for over 3 years or more. And I wish he had your "Know How"
to clean up those carbs.
What a video 1&2 it hasn’t run for 27 years bloody awesome effort with what looked like not too much effort I have the 1980 shadow with dual brake callipers on the front
Ahh thanks glad you liked the video. Part 3 should be published soon 👌
Great to watch this! I am currently working on the same year and model as we speak! What a great bike ahead of its time.
Yeah The CX is really growing on me. Fantastic bikes. Looking forward to riding. Good luck with yours
Use ice cream containers or simmilar are good to store the small bits and bobs, especially working outside on a rough bench. Your bi-carb cleaner is impressive! Well done getting it alive.
Thanks for watching glad you enjoyed
Only just found your videos, very helpful as i'm doing up a black 1981 aswell that requires similar jobs like brakes etc, 👍
Brilliant glad to be of help. That’s what it’s all about 👌
👌👍👍
Top job mate
Cheers thanks part 3 coming soon 👌
I loved my blue '83 CX500 when i had it back in '86. Absolutely fab to see there are still some around, and being well taken care of too. I take my hat off to all those who are looking after them and restoring them. I envy you all, lol.
You can buy small wire brushes used to clean airbrushes.
They are perfect for cleaning jets out
I'm at 1m30s of the video and as soon as I saw the liquid leak from the carburators I thought; Oh my, I think there's going to be rust in those...
Alright! You're a bit on the rough side, but you've earned yourself a new follower 😎
I heard that roar and I understood, you know your engines. 😁
Great Video brilliant personality .Whats the story on the BMW K Trike is it for sale
It’s well gone now the trike
i never got why the CX500 earned the monicer of "The plastic pig!"... I mean, theres not that much plastic on 'em. 80's/90's Dispatch riders favorite!....
Hi mate, what's in your spray bottle with the yellow spray head, that you sprayed the inside of the starter motor with and the carbs? Since it was the inside of the starter motor and you barely wiped it dry I thought it could have been rubbing alcohol but the colour in this video clearly isn't that. I have a CX Custom been sitting since 1995 that I'm about to bring back to life, although I just bought another one in good original condition as I can use some of the parts just to get it registered given some of the rules in Oz, then modify it afterwards. only recently picked up soda blasting kit as well. so keen to go! cheers
It’s just a cheaper version of WD40 that I buy by the gallon off eBay
It’s a runner
I was wondering about the state of the petrol tank inside was it left empty & dry. Do these bikes have a fuel filter? It might be a good idea with a tank that's been sitting for 25 years. A friend had a CX650 Turbo in 83 ish, a very quick bike at that time.
The tank was absolutely immaculate inside, like brand new which is unusual. They only have the internal tank filter as standard
Should you not put them in batter before you deep fry them tim 😂
Think you’ve had a few to many Todd 😂😂😂🍺🍺🍺
