  • I have done a lot of work to the Daily Rider but this still needed to be done. It is not a very difficult job to do and anyone can do this. Eventhough it is simple it does tell you a lot about the condition the final drive shaft is in. It is an expensive and very important part of the motorcycle and doing these small jobs keeps it in good condition.
You can get your own Dutched Shed Builds merchandise like t-shirts, hats, beanies, sweatshirts and even a mug from my brand new E-bay store: www.ebay.com/usr/dutched-shed...
Here is the link to the information (credits to Marco Becker) I used to make this video:

If you use google-translate is actually gives a useable translation to english.

I had a cx500c for a long time never had any issues with the final drive as long as its serviced when it is due. Like your videos look forward to the next one

Yeah, Its a very sturdy part that final drive. but maybe the previous owner wasn’t very caring and then the drive can get f**ked up.
But if taking care of this Honda stuff will outlive us all

I really do not like the brake cleaner wash. I don't think it's necessary unless there's really bad contamination inside, and if that's the case then a full teardown would be needed anyway to replace the seals that had clearly failed. Brake cleaner flush on the final drive seems as bad an idea as filling the engine with kerosene and cranking it during an oil change. I wouldn't. Just keep up with changing the fluid as scheduled and it should stay serviceable.

This one was really dirty and hardly, if ever, serviced. So i needed a real good clean. The brakefluid is in fairly short and you do have blow it out asap. But if the hub is serviced regularly just a fluid change will be more than ok to.

@@DutchedShedBuilds Agreed I just hoped a brake fluid flush wouldn't be thought to be part of normal maintenance by people finding this video

are you a 100% that all of the brake clean evaporated out of there? there mustve been a puddle at the bottom. If so it would dissolve some of the oil and make it not work as well. Might be worth the 5 mins and little bit of oil to give it another quick change.

I understand your concern! Brake Cleaner is indeed nasty stuff. But it did evaporate completely. and the guy that "taught" me this via youtube is a kinda CX-guru.. he knows he sh#t. ;)

Run it hard before changing any oil. Or else all particles will be deposited on surfaces.
When running it hard for a while, the particles will be suspended in the oil you drain off.

@@DutchedShedBuilds I like your videos. The humor is good, and the technical stuff is good as well. Nice '78 CX500 👍
