    Hey Jared, I plan on getting this camera and I wanted to thank you for taking the time to make this guide. I'm a quick learner but very weak in my camera knowledge. This video is very in depth and covers all the bases I need. I really appreciate people like you who take the time to share their knowledge and information with others. Again, thank you.

    Greetings, Jared!! I bought my camera about a week ago. And prior to watching your tutorial, I was more closer to river-dancing on the equator, than I was to figuring out all of these buttons. Your tutorial was simple enough to follow, and for some of the technical terms that I didn't understand, at least I can look at your other videos and figure it out. What I've definitely learned today is that ISO does NOT mean 'In Search Of', and AV does not mean 'Audio//Video'. I look forward to learning my camera, and moving on to the next phase of my journey. I have subscribed, and I've downloaded your app. Thank you so much for your insight!!!

    If you're new to photography, PLEASE listen carefully and pay attention to what Jared says (12:00) about shooting RAW and
    JPEG. Shoot in both JPEG and RAW so that you can reedit your photos in a future when you learn how to edit them in
    Photoshop or Lightroom. If you don't YOU WILL REGRET IT.
    I have tons of JPEG files from when I first started, they are good shots with nice composition, but poorly exposed
    and not white balanced. I've tried to re-edit them but no luck, edited jpegs look horrible, worst than their original.
    Thank me later.

      Marcos Santana Sooo.... Shoot raw?

    • @ethanlinquist4525
      @ethanlinquist4525 7 років тому +4

      no, shoot RAW + JPEG, most DSLR's can. I say both because before you know how to properly edit them in something like lightroom it's easier to just use the jpeg.

    • @retiredguyadventures6211
      @retiredguyadventures6211 6 років тому +1

      I'm a new/old photographer. I used to shoot film back in the 80's but have forgot most of what I knew except the basics. I just took a workshop and they had us using raw without explaining you gave to have a editing program to access the files. I have Digital Photo Professional now so I can at least access them. Probably most new photographers do not have editing software so wouldn't it be convenient if the "teachers" brought up and explain that little fact?

    • @messemaker22
      @messemaker22 6 років тому +2

      you can do a LOT with jpeg files if you learn how to use lightroom and photoshop but thats takes a lot of practice and understanding how the software settings affect the photo.
      In general even if something SEDECMSI UNDMERexposed3 6you can stiill recover quite a lot and even if overexposed and it looks washed out there is still enough data there to get details back.
      read read read practice practice practice and you will get there.
      oh and NEVER use the autocorrect functions of editing software they only make it worse.
      read up on the histogram and see hot ever change afffects the histogram and you can achief minor mirracles.

    • @wooglet6426
      @wooglet6426 6 років тому

      when it says shoot raw and jpeg does that mean it takes two photos in both formats????? and if so when editing photos in lightroom yhou edit the raw photo right

    Such a great guide on this camera! I recently got this camera for my first camera and I love it! I kinda knew most of this stuff by just messing with the camera. I learn better by tinkering with things than reading guides. And watching videos of course help. Anyway, I have gotten some great shots and I think this video could help me improve even more! One of my friends has even told me that some of my shots are really good and offered to get some of my pics in an art gallery which I didn't know photos could be in. I forgot they do a lot with art so they could legit help me with that. I love making films a lot but photos are really fun too.
    I also have a friend who is heavily into film making and seen his cameras and his camera equipment and it's nuts! His mother got a camera recently and showed me it. It was so complicated because of how many buttons it had. It was massive and it was a 4k with a giant lens. I'be seen wireless controlled gimbals, something I think called pixel tubes which was for lighting, drones, a cinematic camera I think which was the hugest camera I have seen yet. I always make a joke that I can't believe he trusts me not to drop this stuff. He is passionate about this stuff and since I like this stuff too, he's exited to show it and teach me. When I first met him, weeks later he brought over that giant cinematic camera. He's shot commercials and had clients, he's traveled to different states and probably countries, shot concerts. I'm pretty sure he stayed in a mansion to do a video shoot somewhere's once. I know no one cares about this but all of this, seeing what equipment there is and where you can go makes me exited for this stuff.

    Thanks for this just picked up my T7i about a week or so ago and LOVE IT! I was debating on getting a full frame Pentax K1 but saved about 1200 buckaroos by getting this with the 10-18 zoom which gives me 16 to 29 which is perfect. This is all the camera I need. Shoot RAW!

    Jared Polin... I must say... I have researched throughout UA-cam countless hours for ‘weeks’.... ‘weeks’!! seriously; trying to determine which camera to buy for “Birding” You have pretty much made the decision for me on thisCanon 800D... I subscribed to your channel because you are easy to follow along and your explanations of each feature is in the user-friendly-mode I’m looking for. The low-light feature on Canon 800D is an added plus for Birding. The Nikon P900 (considering) does not have that feature... Thank You.

    Yesterday, I bought a Canon EOS Kiss X9i (probably identical to EOS 800D) in Japan. I found you entertaining and much helpful and your explanations are easy to understand. Ofcourse, I am a beginner at photography and will follow your instructions to progress. Thanks for your nice videos.

    29:57 Drive mode. Important point here that drove me crazy with this camera. Notice that the 4th menu option shows the remote control. This is for infrared remote control (RC-6) if you turn the blue tooth mode on, this will disable the use of this type of remote and change the icon in the menu to a 10 second delay only. To turn this back on go into the wireless settings and turn the blue tooth settings off. I accidentally turned blue tooth mode on when I was trying to get this to work with my iphone in wifi mode. Note that getting the wifi set up on an iphone takes a lot of patience, but once you have it set up it works pretty smoothly. Thanks Jared for doing this video.

    Here's a tip, take it or leave it. Take a still shot of the options dial, blow it up, then circle each option as you go through them so we can see what the heck you're talking about. You seem very knowledgeable but we couldn't see the settings on the dial as you went through them. Thanks for the effort.

    Thank you. This is the best explanation of the T7i functions that I've found on the internet. I upgraded from the T2i. Although many of the features are the same it was good to review and see what is new.

    Hi Jared, I just wanted to say thank you for continually putting out interesting and informative content. After shooting on an entry level mirrorless camera for about a year, I have just treated myself to my first DSLR, the 800D. This video has made the transition so easy, meaning I am out and taking pictures sooner. Thank you for all your hard work, keep it coming.

    This is one of the best videos on the subject I has seen.
    However, in the movie mode settings, the time lapse option was dimmed and you past over this. This is one item I am interested. Is it not available?
    Thanks,
