Hey, I can't record what's happening on my desktop even after adding Display capture. I can only see a blank screen. What should I do?

I have been having the same issues however Mike makes it clear and simple to set things up right the first time!
Great job. But now is there any Stream Deck plugin that allows us to control the volume or we have to go manually to sound and click Internal Speaker (which is a pain)
you can program streamdeck buttons to controll pretty much any PC or OBS functions, and the stream deck plus actually has dials to make it even easier.
So many people over-ride the auto-configurations and then wonder why their OBS is over-powering their computer. Doh! It really does a good job for most uses.
The new update fixed that I went from using 92%cpu to record now I use about 8% huge difference for lower powered machines

It looks like I will be auto configuring my OBS. and stick with that.
Is there a way I can turn off the background music playing over your voice? I have ADD and it's distracting me.

Excellent tutorial. However, can you tell me why all I get is a black screen in the Preview? Everything else, including audio worked as you said it does. I used the wizard, I was recording gameplay, but, I must have missed something in the process. As I said, excellent tutorial, I'm sure it was my dumb-a**!
Are you using a Mac? I had another used mention a black screen preview reciently.
@@MichaelFeyrerJr No, I'm using Windows 11, on a new computer. A computer I'm starting to dislike, but that's another story. Any chance I could press "display" and still get the preview and the quality I need for videos?
@@MichaelFeyrerJr I'm a little frustrated now. Now that I've changed to gaming display, the player isn't showing up in the path I selected. It's like I'm not recording at all. What gives?
Update: I followed the suggesting of another guy (no offense) and he said run as administrator. Well, it seems to be working now. I'll keep an eye on it though. Thanks!

why does it say failed to start recording
Recording settings are not proper in some way. usually the recording location does not exist.

At 6:40 you clicked to display your desktop and it shows it. Mine shows the desktop with my OBS overlayed and I can't get it out of the way. Everyone tells me it's eas and no one has an answer
What you can try is go to settings and enable "Hide OBS windows ftom screen capture, this should close the feedback loop.
What frame rate(30 or 60) would you recommend to record the route of a bike ride when traveling at about 15 mph?
Hello and thank you. Okay so you said to pause and make a comment. First off, I am a 100% brand new user of OBS. So, I have only played with it for a few hours and currently got frustrated because it recorded everything, and I heard everything through my head set, but on “Reply” there was no volume on the game on the first try, then really, really Low volume on the second try, then on the third experiment it was just a bust all together. But here goes….
I have a question, let’s say after I experimented with different settings, and x, y and z and or this that and the other thing, I make a boo boo and make a decision on starting from scratch instead of trying to figure out what I messed up or want to fix or change but instead just want to Re-start from scratch. Start all over with not selection no settings and re-do my set up.
How do you start all over? Start from scratch.
Could you if you have not already, make a video purposely messing up something and then showing not just me but maybe others like me how to start all over?
I think I might have stumbled onto it already, but not really sure.
I tried clicking on the “Profile” tab and the “Scene Collection” tab to see if there was an option to start a “New Project”. Okay there, that is the terminology I wanted to use above. How would a person “Start a New Project” from scratch?
I think that should cover it. Okay, well hopefully you or someone in this awesome community of helping others, I can learn. I like learning.
LOL, wow, okay so I just watched the entire video and well, I think it answered the above. Lesson learned, even though you said to pause it and make a comment early on in the video, I should have just waited. But that's okay, it's a learning process.
I do have a question however that was not in this video. Which video that you made is the one where you showed how to make the background disappear/become transparent? I watch so many videos I seriously lose track one where I say it at. I don't have green screen but I don't want my living room in my background.
Oh, one more: What about recording and/or saving audio? Like for example, in case I drop a F bomb and didn't mean to, or something like that, is there a way to separate the game audio from my commentary audio so that when I go into an editing program or even streaming, to mute and or remove it so that I can re-do the audio commentary for like if I am gaming?

Hi when i record my videos on my msi, the brightness and other things are not feasible, can you make a video on that options.
I wanted to ask you a question or two, but first I want to thank you for making this video. It is one of the best I have found. Many people have knowledge, but few can teach. One is just as important as the other. One without the other is not much use. Thanks again for taking the time and going step by step.
After playing around with this I see what you meant about naming everything. I got this installed and got sidetracked. On this computer I have a a program that captures TV and I can record the TV. Somehow, I managed to capture the TV signal and it worked really well. But I just wanted to capture videos like on you tube. Not really interested in the whole screen, Well sometimes, mainly interested in the videos that are being played. Is there a way to do this? Like I was saying about naming things is there a way to go back and rename things or am I going to have to uninstall and reinstall everything just to rename things?
I have a question. I installed OBS on Linux Pop O/S. Installation went fine. I am only interested in the recording feature. I opted for the automatic configuration. When I try to add a source I don't have the Display Option available to select in the list.
working on a iMac and when trying to add Audio Output Capture, no devices appear in the Properties window. Any advice?
Thanks Mike. I'm using version 27.2 for streaming with NDI. Really like NDI for our purpose. I have not check yet will 29.2 run the NDI plugin..?
If you use ndi I would stay put for now. I have seen nothing but complaints about it with 29.

I have 29.02 and does it configure like the previous versions?
@@Wildicon19 If you are using NDI I would stick with 27.2... Ours works just fine on earlier versions and I see no reason to change something that is not broken... Also want to mention, Thanks MIke for the countdown. Used it today for Church service. Pastor loved it..
@@MichaelFeyrerJr Yes I have just reconfigured it and it worked somewhat glitchy for one stream. Then I went to stream again and the sound would not work. Is this NDI better?

I do have a little question and I hope you have the answer to it.
When I switch scenes from my main scene (Containing: Video Capture Device , Mic and Webcam) to other scenes. The audio from my main scene is still heard in in all other scenes..
How can I ensure that the ONLY audio playing is from the scene I am currently in?
Is there a way to make it so its just you on webcam taking up the screen. For example switching to just you for talking etc then switch to the desktop or desktop with small webcame in bottom right corner? How would you do that?

But for me no, I have to switch to obs to see chat overlay, But never on my own screen. Any help, please?

hi, I do live streams for church with OBS or Prizm. I do 1080p 60 fps, when I look at it on my pc it looks very crisp, but when I look at it on my smart tv it looks terrible fuzzy. Any suggestions?
